Mayor's MessageI am pleased to present to you the 2020 Training and Educaton program for professionals working with families in the City of Whittlesea.

This annual training program offers local, responsive, high quality training, educaton and networking opportunites which assist you in the important role of supportng families.

The training and educaton events in this year’s program include workshops, one-off training sessions, short courses, bus tours and opportunites to partcipate in community events.

At the City of Whittlesea we are passionate about supportng children, young people and families to build stronger, vibrant and more resilient communites. As a signatory to the Victorian Child Friendly Cites and Communites Charter, we are committed to consultaton with children and young people, respectng their opinions and contributon to decisions about their community and wellbeing.

This program is one way we can support families and I encourage you to take advantage of the workshops and training sessions on offer. We look forward to seeing you at our sessions in 2020.

City of Whittlesea Family Day Care is a high quality, licenced children’s service. Our Educators are qualified childcare professionals and develop quality educatonal programs for children. We encourage families to be actve partcipants in our service, sharing informaton and the decision making process which supports their child’s learning and development.

City of Whittlesea Family Services Educaton Officer liaises with early years and youth services sector to strengthen agency linkages and enhance service outcomes. The Educaton and Training Officer’s role includes: • Identfy, implement and review educaton and training programs for parents,

young people and professionals.• Facilitate the Children and Family Services Forum (CAFS).• Support children’s consultaton by working in partnership with the agency or service. • Implement the endorsed charter Victorian Child Friendly Cites and Communites

across the City of Whittlesea.

Playgroup is an informal gathering for babies, toddlers and preschool age children with their parents or carers. It is a chance to share tme, play with your child and meet other families within your local community.The City of Whittlesea Playgroup Resource Team can provide advice and support on:• Finding and joining a local playgroup• Startng a new playgroup• Planning and running a playgroup• Accessing Council’s Supported Playgroup Program Pop up playgroups, including nature play activities, will be advertised on the City of Whittlesea website. Baseline for Young People supports local young people and their families, through providing services where young people live, learn, work, play and socialise.

We provide programs that promote resilience in young people, build supportive communities and places and advocate for and with young people. Our programs offer skill development, leadership opportunities, engage young people in civic decisions and social action

At Baseline for Young People we foster an inclusive culture that embraces difference. We believe that young people from a range of different backgrounds and points of view working together we achieve the best outcome for young people and the community.

We are here to provide information to parents, so they can understand what is happening for their teen during adolescence. Our parenting workshops offer strategies that parents can use to strengthen their relationships with their teenager and support the development of happy and healthy young people.

Enhanced Maternal and Child Health (EMCH) Service

Baseline for Young People is located at the EDGE Services for Young People,Shop MM1, Westfield Plenty Valley415 McDonalds Road, Mill Park

The Enhanced Maternal and Child Health Service provides additonal outreach support to families experiencing significant early parentng difficultes. The EMCH service partners with the families to set goals that improves outcomes for the parent and child.

Eligibility criteria is assessed, and a referral is required for the Enhanced Maternal and Child Health Service.

Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Service The Maternal and Child Health Service is a free service for families living in the City of Whittlesea who have children newborns to school age.

Our multdisciplinary team includes Maternal and Child Health Nurses, Lactaton Consultants and Early Childhood Professionals.

Our service provides ten Key Age and Stage consultatons from a home visit to 3.5 years. The visits focus on your child’s health growth and development and family wellbeing.

Additionally, your child’s immunisation status will be monitored to ensure it is up-to-date.

The free immunisaton program is offered by Council’s Immunisaton Team to protect children from serious and preventable diseases.

Enquiries regarding immunisaton can be made on 9217 2170.

MarchFamily, Children and Young People

The First Time Playgroup is a seven week program which aims to support first tme parents in their new role. Adapted to suit the needs of families, the program can include discussion on the transiton to parenthood, sleep and settling, diet, actve play and forming ongoing supportve networks. All first tme parents are invited to attend a First Time Playgroup soon after the birth of their baby.

• Open Consultation Sessions Drop in for further review in between your child’s scheduled Key Age and Stage visits.• Breast Feeding Support Consult with one of our lactaton consultant or maternal and child health nurses for support with feeding your child breast, bottle or solid foods.

This program is suitable for babies up to 12 months of age. It provides informaton and support to help parents better understand their child’s sleep patterns and behaviours. Get advice on sleep strategies and settling techniques and gain support to better cope with sleep disrupton.

Designed to promote healthy eatng and actve play behaviours in parents and their children. Get the right start by improving your knowledge, skill and strategies related to your infants first year of development. This program is age relevant to your child’s birth month. Four sessions are offered when your child is 3, 6, 9 and 12+ months of age.

The library offers Baby, Toddler, Bedtime, Preschool, Bilingual, Inclusive/Sensory, Weekend Story times and Bookaroo.

Many free programs are offered throughout the year by Maternal and Child Health. They are facilitated by health professionals and are offered to further support families in their parentng roles. Some of the programs are outlined below.
