tailed project report of it.NMMC City Engineer Surendra Patil while

speaking with the Newsband said, “The proposalwas passed last year in the general body meeting. The actual work at the site started in the month ofAugust, 2019. Efforts are being made to ensure thatthe project gets completed in two years i.e. by mid2021.”

The plot allocated for the project is on Vashi-Ko-par Khairane road. It is located at a distance of 3km and 3.5 km from Sion-Panvel highway and theVashi railway station respectively and hence is eas-ily accessible for the residents.

“The swimming pool, that will come up in thecomplex, is going to be the first Olympic-size pool inthe entire city. Of the total Rs. 150 crore budget, around Rs 10 crore will be used for developing thepool alone. Once the project is ready, the concerneddepartment will consider hiring few trainers for thebeginners. However, nothing has been finalizedabout that till now,” informed a senior official from

NMMC.“Apart from the local buses, there is also a plan

to introduce other buses going to Mumbai and otherneighbouring areas from that terminus,” informed areliable source from NMMT.

Dhruv Mohite, a swimmer from Vashi sector-15said, “There are many aspiring swimmers in the citybut the pool facilities are not upto the mark in thesatellite city. There is not a single civic swimmingpool in the city till now. One such pool has been de-veloped at the Central Park at Ghansoli, but we can-not use it as the park has not been thrown open tothe public.”

“We are eagerly waiting for the upcoming com-plex to come up at Vashi. We just hope that the facil-ity gets completed on time and does not get entan-gled in the issue of multiple deadlines,” added Dhruv.

Komesh Jain, social activist from Koperkhairanesaid, “This part of Vashi is in need of a multi-purposehall for organizing different programmes. We are gladthat the NMMC is developing one in the upcomingcomplex. Since location of the project is between Vashiand Kopar Khairane, residents of both the nodes willbe benefitted from it.”

Let’s be part of Solution and Not PollutionThe unsatiated greed of mankind has today brought us to a

threshold, where our very existence is at stake. Environmentalpollution, caused by our own deeds, has become one of the big-gest challenges all over the globe.

According to a data by the National Health Portal of India, sev-en million people die every year in the country due to pollution. The data further says that nine among ten people in the country donot have access to safe air.

Over the years, the forest cover has been uniformly reducing. The green jungles full of life are being cut mercilessly and arebeing replaced concrete jungles in the process of unmindful ur-banization, which is disturbing the sensitive ecological balancecreated by nature. The climatic conditions are changing for worseand in a way by cutting trees we are literally closing the oxygenplants provided by nature although knowing quite well that theoxygen is one of the vital requirements for survival of life. Similar-ly in the coastal areas, especially in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, incidences of unmindful destroying of mangroves vital for ecolog-ical balance are regularly being reported. In a haste to bring inmore and more land under development, the mangroves are be-ing destroyed and illegal reclamation of land is being carried out. This is adversely disturbing the aquatic life.

The resilience of the nature and its finite ability to absorb on-slaught has already been tested to its brim. However today, theawareness about conservation of forests and their environment atlarge has percolated deep down in the society. The governmentaland non-governmental organizations are vying with each other totake a lead in the field. Navi Mumbai too through its developmentauthorities- CIDCO and NMMC does come out with programmesor drives for tree plantation.

Though the spirit for these drives is right but as regards itsimplementation, more hype is being created than the concrete im-plementation of these programmes. Going by the statistics beingprovided, Navi Mumbai should have had a very thick forest coverby now. The ground reality is unfortunately contrary to these sta-tistics, which indicates that either the statistics is wrong or nofeedback or monitoring post plantation care is being done on thepart of the authorities. There seems to be no accountability for thehuge money being spent on such drives, which at least so far havenot yielded unfortunately to say any result.

Lot of authorities like CIDCO, NMMC, Forest department,Pollution Control Board have been created to control pollution. However, all these departments should be made jointly responsi-ble for addressing this grave concern for the very existence of thehuman civilization. This is not only to be limited to the govern-ment organizations. The non-governmental organizations and ev-ery citizen of the country will have to continue in their own way inpreserving the environment, in particularly the trees, to ensurethat this human civilization does not get wiped out by its own acts.

New Year, New Beginnings…

By Dr. Monica Khanna

As a new year anddecade unfold, most ofus would have made alist of resolutions – ofthings that we will door not do in the comingyear. While some of usmanage to stick to ourresolutions, unfortu-nately, some othersdon’t. Determined tobring about a radicalchange in ourselves andour ways, we begin witha great deal of enthusi-asm; but the tempostarts waning as timepasses – and by the endof the year, we realizethat our marathon isincomplete. We havenot even covered halfthe distance we had setfor ourselves.

This happens pri-marily because our res-olutions are often unre-alistic, and our targetsunachievable. For in-stance, if I aim to losetwenty kilos in a year, and lose only one in thefirst month, I will bedisheartened and disil-lusioned. Instead of los-ing weight, I will end uplosing faith in myselfand my ability to reachmy goals. On the otherhand, if I target fivekilos and lose one in thefirst month, it will mo-tivate me to striveharder, and I may endup exceeding my targetwithout really intend-ing to.

Besides, each indi-vidual is different, andwhat works for one per-son does not necessari-ly work for another.Hence, just becausesomeone else managedto lose twenty kilos ina year doesn’t necessar-ily mean that I can dothe same. Comparingoneself with others canbe detrimental to one’sself-confidence and self-esteem, and can lower

one’s morale. Self-awareness is an inte-gral pre-requisite forsetting goals, and weneed to be aware of ourown capabilities andlimitations before weconceptualise our reso-lutions.

In addition to beingpractical when settinggoals, what is also im-perative is persever-ance. When we start amarathon, we hope toreach the finish line, and not back out dur-ing the run. As chil-

dren, we have all heardthe story of the hareand the tortoise, endingwith the moral – ‘Slowand steady wins therace’. Our marathon isnot a competitive race, but it is better to beslow and steady like thetortoise in the story, rather than sprintingforward like the hareand then running out ofenergy and taking abreak. We expect the

break to be momentary, but more often than not,it extends indefinitely, making us lethargicand complacent, andunwilling to get back inaction.

Each of us is run-ning on separate tracksthat we have createdfor ourselves. Thetracks may be parallelat times, and may evenconverge, but that is amere coincidence. Letus hope that all of uscross the finish line ofour own marathons

with cheerful and sat-isfied faces… let ushope that the dreamswe have envisioned for2020 see the light ofday, and not disappearinto oblivion with thepassing of time.

He alsowon the debate where-by the pundits accept-ed all the argumentsput forward by Swam-iji. After the punditsleft, Swamiji’s discipleconversed in Sanskritand also was unhappywith the way the pun-dits had laughed after

This he said atCossipore in the year1897. I wonder if oursociety has changedmuch from that time.We still laugh at smallmistakes people makeduring making smallconversations!!

Then Swamiji wasasked -What is civilisa-tion? The more ad-vanced the society isspiritually, the morecivilised the nation is,answered swamiji. Known for its scenicbeauty and its mesmer-izing waterfalls duringmonsoon and lush

While Amboli is asmall hill station how-ever, there are stillmany places to visit. Tomove around, one canopt for private car ser-vices or local transportlike an auto rickshaw

or if you love cyclingthen this hill station isbest for you. With notraffic, peddling cycle isfun. However, we optedfor a local auto rickshawto take us to places.

As we reached thehill top at 4.00 pm ourfirst point for sightsee-ing was the SunsetPoint. The sunset pointis located a kilometeraway from the bus stoptowards Sawantwadi.Near the point there area few small eaterieswhich are operated bythe local villagers. You

can opt for simple yettasty hot snacks likevada, bhajiya’s and sipa hot cup of tea whileenjoying the chill breezeat the picture perfectplace at the sunsetpoint.

As it gets darksoon, we embarkedupon our sightseeingjourney the next day.

Although, the climatewas pleasant, we optedto start our day early, after a having a yum-my Poha as breakfastalong with local minibuns and hot tea. Weheaded to our seconddestination- Kavlesadpoint. After reachingthe place one needs toget down a few stepsand walk a bit to see thebreathtaking view ofthe endless valleys andsmall waterfalls. Andthe fun part was theecho through themountains.

The place is famousfor its reverse waterfallduring the monsoonseason. The reversewaterfall is an opticalillusion, created whenwild winds flow in thevalley, and it looks likethat the water is mov-ing upwards.

While the Kavlesh-et Point was approach-

able and the roads aregood however, it is nota disable friendly path.

After the Kavlesadpoint, our auto driversuggested us theHiranyakeshi Temple.

East Indian Marathi programmesshould be shown on television

We, East Indians, who are the original people of Mumbai, are a talent-ed lot and have several East Indian Marathi music CDs and VCDs re-leased in the market. But not a single East Indian Marathi programme isbeing shown on television till date. Even Konkani programmes for theGoans living in Mumbai are not telecast. Its high time television chan-nels start telecasting East Indian Marathi and Konkani programmes ontelevision.

making news. After a long time such a serious situation has arisen in theMetro city and it is time to arrest the miscreants. After all the doctors areserving humanity to survive and no one feel like ending the life of a pa-tient. But strange thoughts and views make the people act in a verycruel manner and thereby causing ill feelings among the doctors - pa-tient’s relatives.

This is not the first time that Metro is suffering. Even Thane andNavi Mumbai doctors suffered the same fate in the event of a patient’sdeath and that is not in good taste. Attacking the doctor or the hospitals innot going to help and find an end solution to the crux of the problem.
