Anti-Plastic DriveUnder the guidance of municipal commissioner of Navi Mum-

bai Dr Ramaswami N, a campaign against plastic was carried outin the city. Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation and Maharash-tra Pollution Board jointly carried out the campaign at Nerul’sReliance Mart, Shivaji Nagar and other parts by confiscating 400kg of plactic and imposing fine of Rs 10000. At Bikaner, Nerul,11 kgm of plastic bags were confiscated and Rs 5000 fine amountwas imposed. The campaign was carried out under the control ofNerul’s ward officer Sanjay Tayade and in the presence of inspec-tor Jayashri Adal, deputy cleanliness inspector Ajit Tandel, Viren-dar Pawar, Bhushan Sutar, and Maharashtra Pollution ControlBoard’s officers and workers.

Another interesting happening in Navi Mumbai was the cele-bration of Guru Pournima by carrying out a tree plantation cam-paign again under the guidance of municipal commissioner of NaviMumbai Dr Ramaswami N. The plantation was carried out at Jew-el of Navi Mumbai.

The event was organized by NMMC’s garden department andthose who participated included municipal commissioner Dr Ra-maswami N, additional commissioner Ravindra Patil and MahavirPendari, administration department deputy commissioner KiranrajYadav, chief accounts and finance officer Dhanraj Garad, chiefaccounts examiner Dayanand Nimkar, city engineer Surendra Pa-til, assistant director townplanning Ovesh Momin, garden de-partment’s deputy commissioner Nitin Kale, zone 1’s DC Da-dasaheb Chabukswar, zone 2’s DC Dr Amrish Patnigire, wastemanagement department’s DC Tushar Pawar, etc centre’s direc-tor Varsha Bhagat, transport manager Shirish Aradwad, execu-tive engineer Ajay Sankhye and others.

So both anti-plastic campaign and tree plantation campaignare important events considering the fact that the harm causedby use of plastic bags and cutting of trees are tremendous. Theenvironment is being badly affected owing to these two practicesthat many anti-social elements are indulging in. NMMC undermunicipal commissioner Dr Ramaswamy N is doing yeomen ser-vice to the society by trying to protect the environment by carry-ing out campaigns related to anti-plastic and tree plantation. Thismove on the part of NMMC is bound to prove to be of greatbenefit to the city residents in the long run.

inflammatory drugs(NSAIDs), like Advil,Aleve, or Motrin, willhelp with pain andswelling. However,these drugs can haveside effects, like anincreased risk ofbleeding and ulcers.They should be usedif the doctor pre-scribes.

• Use a cast orsplint to keep yourwrist immobile butfor a short time onlyuntil you see thedoctor. Then youshould follow thedoctor’s advice aboutwhether or not tocontinue using asplint. Using a splintfor too long can resultin more stiffness andmuscle weakness insome cases.

• You shouldpractice stretchingand strengtheningexercises if yourdoctor recommendsthem. It is better ifyou see a physical oroccupational thera-pist to guide a pro-gram specific to yourcondition.

Sometimes insevere Grade III wristsprains, in which theligament is snapped,may require surgeryto repair. So take careof felling down andsave yourelf fromwrist injury and if ithappens take care totake medical help.

LabyrinthitisAbout labyrinthitis

Labyrinthitis is an inner ear infection. It causesa delicate structure deep inside your ear calledthe labyrinth to become inflamed, affecting yourhearing and balance.

The most common symptoms are dizziness,hearing loss (from mild to total loss of hearing)and vertigo – the sensation that you, or the envi-ronment around you, is moving.

These symptoms can range from mild to se-vere, with some people feeling that they are un-able to remain upright. Other symptoms include:

a feeling of pressure inside your ear(s)ringing or humming in your ear(s) (tinnitus)fluid or pus leaking out of your ear(s)ear painfeeling sick (nausea) or being sicka high temperature (fever) of 38C (100.4F) or

abovechanges in vision, such as blurred vision or

double visionmild headachesCertain things can make the dizziness worse,

including:colds or illnessthe darkbeing in crowded areas or small roomstirednessa women’s periodwalkingSee your GP if you have these symptoms.You should also avoid driving, using tools and

machinery, or working at heights if you’re feelingdizzy.

Treating labyrinthitis

In most cases, the symptoms pass within afew weeks. Treatment involves a combination ofbed rest and medication to help you cope betterwith the symptoms. You may need additional med-ication to fight the underlying infection, althoughantibiotics are not often required as the cause ismost commonly due to a virus.

Contact your GP if you do not notice any im-

provement after three weeks. You may need to bereferred to an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist.

A small number of people have persistentsymptoms that last for several months, or possi-bly years. This requires a more intensive type oftreatment called vestibular rehabilitation thera-py (VRT).

The labyrinth

The labyrinth is the innermost part of theear. It contains two important parts:

the cochlea – this relays sounds to the brainand is responsible for hearing

the vestibular system – a complex set of flu-id-filled channels that contributes to your senseof balance

Inflammation of the labyrinth can disruptyour hearing and sense of balance, triggering thesymptoms of labyrinthitis. The labyrinth usual-ly becomes inflamed either because of:

a viral infection, such as a cold or flua bacterial infection, which is much less com-

monWho gets labyrinthitis?

Most cases of viral labyrinthitis occur inadults aged 30 to 60 years old. Viral labyrinthi-tis is relatively common in adults. Other typesof ear infections are usually more widespread inchildren. Bacterial labyrinthitis is much lesscommon. Younger children under two years oldare more vulnerable to developing bacterial lab-yrinthitis.Complications of labyrinthitis

Bacterial labyrinthitis carries a higher riskof causing permanent hearing loss, particularlyin children who have developed it as a complica-tion of meningitis.

Because of this high risk, a hearing test isrecommended following bacterial labyrinthitis.

Severe hearing loss following bacterial laby-rinthitis can sometimes be treated with a cochlearimplant. This is not a conventional hearing aid,but a small electronic device fitted under the skinbehind the ear during surgery.

As an ardent fan of game of cricket I wassupporting and writing with a caption“World Cup To Our Doorsteps” with a hopeof bringing the trophy to India for the thirdtime. And this time it took place in Englandand I wanted to prove that the 2011 victoryat home against Sri Lanka is not just athing of the past and we are capable of doingso with regular frequency. But my hopeswere dashed to dust with the dismissal ofRohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahuland we were staring in defeat from the wordgo. Century maker fell in the trap, captainwas conspicuously absent by his innovativeshuffling and Rahul left the team in thelurch. The recovery through both RishabPant and Hardik Pandya came to end whenit was flourishing. And last but not the least

the rearguard action took us to a greaterheights and a vision for victory. But as thetarget was stiff enough for a chase due to earlyloss of wickets and snail like approach by asenior batsman put us into unwanted difficul-ties and the going became tough and in theend it became aimless when the tail endbatsmen came and gone. However, despite apoor show in vain by Team India our mediashower praise on our players and considerthem immortals. Even an ordinary show isconsidered extraordinary and that too in alosing cause.

Ravi Shastri as a coach failed miserably inthe hunt for the World Cup. He showed likesand dislikes on certain players and deserve3.5/10 for dubious role.

Virat Kohli showed his arrogance and

never saw a Kane Williamson in him. Hefailed often for both pace and spin and theshuffle and the referrals that followed hisundoing 5/10

Rohit Sharma- a record maker and if heplays pace well he fail against spin and viceversa. In all a total disappointment in thefield and in the semi-final match and it waspoor. 5.5/10

Ravindra Jadeja, the bits and piecesplayer was not considered fit to play in theplaying XI and later on considered only toshow a flash in the pan and perish 4.5/10

Shikhar Dhawan- Out early with aninjury he was part of the Injured Indian XIin the past also and this time he was madeto sit and warm up benches. 4/10

KL Rahul- Neither an opener nor amiddle order batsman. He hit 350 plus runsbut when it really mattered he was a novicein his usual way 5/10

Rishab Pant - A poor man’s Dhoni. He isnot suitable for top order but fitted in thattop spot under compulsion. 3.5/10

Vijay Shankar- Neither a batsman nor abowler and there is no three dimensionalattraction in his game. He became a passen-ger in the end. 2.5/10.

Hardik Pandya - Poor man’s Ian Botham.He was playing more aerial shots and hispresence was short lived like an air bubble.He perished and India lost. 4/10

Mohd. Shami- The real tormentor athome and abroad he got into the side at acrucial time and made way also in a crunchgame. He is a rabbit with the bat. 5/10

Japrit Bumrah We banked on him toomuch but could not do great death bowlinglike Starc. He made his presence felt and theend was in sight when he came to batting- 6/10

Kedar Jadhav- Never considered as aspinner or as a top order but an also playedas a player. He is not fit for one day andAshwin could have been an automatic choice1/10

MS Dhoni - An asset as well as a liabilityin the side. BCCI has given him notice tovacate his place behind the stumps. He wasa team man earlier and not now. 4.25/10

Dinesh Karthik - A loving DK- a goodcatcher in front of the stumps and repeatedfailures and no confidence on him by thecaptain made him a push over 2.5/10

Kuldeep Yadav- Neither a mystery bowlernor a freak bowler an ordinary bowler- bowlbest at times 3.75/10

Y. Chahal - Lacking in length and direc-tion can be hit to the park. Poor fielder andso deserve sacking despite limited success 4/10
