Encouraging outdoor sportsPlaying outdoors should be a vital part of every kid’s early

development. Besides boosting physical and mental growth, it alsohelps the child to learn various life skills: a great chance for kids torun, jump, make a mess, explore their self in natural surroundings.

With the advent of modern technology, children these days arespending more time on their iPads, Nintendos or in watching televi-sion. Scientists, doctors, mental health experts, educationalists, sociologists from across the globe have been professing the needto allow children to go out into the natural world. This, they stress, not only helps in their development, in terms of physical and men-tal, but also that of the society as a whole.

Unfortunately, children these days do not appear to have sparetime as well. The parents, in their eagerness to make their wardsexcel in every sphere, lay more emphasis on after-school activities, coaching, organised sports etc. Due to this, children have really notime to do activities like climbing trees, building dens, playing inthe mud etc. Moreover, living in a nuclear family makes it all themore difficult to let kids go out and play while ensuring they are safeand sound under adult supervision. Hence, digital technology be-comes the easiest and the only option for parents to keep their kidsbusy with something while they get busy completing their never-ending office or household work. But this is taking a huge toll ontheir health. Obesity is perhaps the most visible symptom of thelack of such play.

As per the studies conducted worldwide, by spending just fewminutes with nature can help in improving mental wellbeing andself-esteem. Free and unstructured play in the outdoors boosts prob-lem-solving skills, focus and self-discipline. Socially, it improvescooperation, flexibility, and self-awareness. Emotional benefits in-clude reduced aggression and increased happiness.

Nature is a tool to get children to experience not just the widerworld, but themselves. Let them learn how to take responsibilityand how to measure risk for themselves. Children are the future ofour nation. Let us all play a conscious and proactive role in devel-oping a positive outlook toward outdoor games or sports amongkids.

Navi Mumbai is a well planned city. Transport facilityis good here and connectivity of buses and trains areexcellent. Because of wide roads, service roads whichare connected with the main road and every node is con-nected with Mumbai-Pune highway which gives fastestaccessibility that is the reason of excellent transport fa-cility. Palm Beach road has become the heart of NaviMumbai which has given faster accessibility to Vashi.

Railway station and bus depot are so well planned and the best part ofrailway station is office premises are constructed just above the station sothat people can save their travel time. There are long distance bus hub atevery node junction. NMMT buses are connected till the last mile.

NAVI MUMBAIKARS SPEAK Your views on transport facilities in Navi Mumbai?

QUESTION FOR NEXT WEEK :

Your views on the Union Budget 2020?

Navi Mumbai urgently needs proper and fast connectiv-ity. The population has increased tremendously and publictransport remains the same. Metro connectivity shouldbe introduced immediately to connect areas from Vashito Thane, Vashi to Mumbai, Vashi to ulve, Vashi to Be-lapur, Panvel and other areas. When smaller cities aregetting Metro, why Navi Mumbai remains neglected isthe question to our city administration? Only bus and

train are inadequate and metro should be introduced as soon as possible.Gurunath Kamble, Retired, Koperkhairane

Navi Mumbai is extremely lucky to be blessed with ad-equate transport facilities. With the transport manage-ment in the hands of NMMT, every area is connected bybus. Excellent connectivity is available for Navi Mum-baikars to every major nodes. However there is a needto increase frequency of buses. Also more midi busesshould be introduced to connect areas that arecongested. More buses should be introduced to nearbysatellite cities also.

Dr Pratap Mudaliar, Business, Vashi

Navi Mumbai is blessed to have good transportation fa-cility. Probably nowhere in the country such facility isavailable. The city is well connected by public and pri-vate bus service, trains and very soon it will have metro, water and air transport. This will give an internationalstatus to the city.

Anil Kumar Ubale, Journalist, Koperkhairane

Navi Mumbai is the city of the 21st century. It has beenwell conceived and planned by the City and IndustrialDevelopment Corporation. The planners had envisagedthe transportation facility and hence the residents areblessed with good transportation whether in the form ofST, BEST, NMMT or KDMT. The city is well connectedand the residents do not face any problem with regardsto transportation.

Raghjeet (sonu) Marwah, Navi Mumbai

I believe that the public transportation in Navi Mum-bai is smoother than that of Mumbai. The trains arepretty well managed but at times the beggars causetrouble and also the vendors hog the place while stand-ing in a crowded train. The most annoying thing aboutthe public transport in general is the lack of cleanli-ness as it should be considered as priority in today’sgeneration.

The roads in Navi Mumbai are spacious, clean and wellmaintained. However, people are misusing them by driv-ing rashly in roads such as Palm Beach Marg as thereis negligible traffic police coverage. As far as local rail-ways are concerned, fast locals should be introduced inthe harbour line as most of the trains in the peak hoursare congested. Being a SeaWoods resident, I have seen alot of traffic congestion near the newly built Seawoodsmall. As a result, many cars are parked in the residential areas adjacentto Seawoods mall.Santosh Shettar, Software Engineer, Seawoods
