one platform, similar toan exchange like theBombay Stock Ex-change. This allowssellers to quickly findbuyers for their saleproperties, making itthe most effective mar-keting tool for the in-dustry, unlike any oth-er realty portal in In-dia.

Considering thecurrent scenario of therealty sector and prop-erty portals in thiscountry, Jay Patel said,“Most real estate por-tals in India have somuch junk data be-cause they operate witha ‘Pay-Per-Listing’structure which essen-tially means people canadvertise whateverthey want as long asthey are paying for it,since there is no verifi-cation of data after ithas been entered.”

Patel further added,

“The Pay-Per-Listingconcept used by por-tals cannot be sus-

tained over the longterm, because eventu-ally brokers will real-ize their sale invento-ry is even more valu-able for the property

portals than it is forthe brokers. If the realestate portals did not

charging brokers fortheir listings. In fact, since they really needthe listings, the portalsshould actually be pay-ing brokers for theirvaluable data.”

IndiaMLS aims tochange the quality ofthe real estate marketin this country throughthe implementation of anational MLS system.

Speaking to News-band, on his efforts formaking his vision a re-ality and creating Indi-aMLS, Patel said “Afterhaving undergone morethan two years of realuser testing and feed-back from more than10,000 Indian brokers, our MLS product is per-fected for this market. It’s very important torecognize that Indi-aMLS is not just anoth-er tech company. Weare completely differentfrom traditional realestate portals, and weare positioned to shakeup this industry as weintroduce the greatestreal estate tech inven-tion to India.”

Key company USPs include:• IndiaMLS is a unique property portal which

includes a database of active sellers and buy-ers, thus creating a true marketplace, sim-ilar to a stock exchange.

• There are NO FAKE LISTINGS on theMLS, unlike most real estate portals whichhave many junk listings posted by brokersonly to generate leads.

• There are NO DUPLICATE LISTINGS, be-cause all multiple listings for the same prop-erty are consolidated into a single listing, making it much easier for all users.

• The MLS contains only LIVE listings, thusno old or Expired Listings.

• The MLS has a subscription revenue mod-el, is operated by a Code-of-Ethics, and in-cludes no PPL (Pay-Per-Listing), thus noneed for brokers to buy large listing pack-ages to advertise their properties or enterjunk data.

• The MLS is the only system which can pro-vide accurate metrics, based upon local de-mographics – a very valuable tool.

Issue : 30 5 June, 2019

Controversy over Hindi impositionThe language issue has acquired disproportionate importance.

The ruling party is embarking on its second innings with a hugemandate. It does not have much of a presence in South India, barring Karnataka. It does not want trouble with southern States, especially Tamil Nadu.

The newly unveiled draft National Education Policy to manda-tory teaching of Hindi in all States was withdrawn following anoutcry from political leaders in Tamil Nadu.

The gist of the original sentence in the draft NEP was that inHindi-speaking States they continued to study Hindi, English andone other Indian language of their choice, and those in non-Hin-di-speaking States would study their regional language, besidesHindi and English. The revised draft merely says students maychange one or more of their three languages in Grade 6 or 7.

The Constitution had adopted Hindi as the official language, with English also as an official language. Language is primarily autilitarian tool. While acquisition of additional tools can indeedbe beneficial, compulsory learning should be limited to one’smother tongue and English as the language that provides accessto global knowledge and as a link language within India.

The three language policy is totally good but the problem isthat some politicians and parties of south find this type of policyas a political tool. The problem is not the people of those states. The people are keen to learn Hindi as a communicating languagefor the pan India and the whole population do not understand theEnglish to communicate with each other.

Not learning Hindi as a language under political pressure isdetrimental to the long term interest of Tamil students who can-not find all the jobs in TN and have to move out to other parts ofIndia. All TN schools must provide opportunities to learn Tamil,English and Hindi to enable the students to learn Hindi if theywish. If a young IAS aspirant studies only Tamil and English andwhen posted outside TN in any northern state, he will feel hand-icapped due to lack of knowledge of Hindi. Imposition is not at alldesirable but opportunities should not be blocked due to politicalactivism.

How does a Tamilan converse with a Gujarati? Or a Malaya-lee with a Bengali? The permutations of the crisscross of India’slanguage mosaic are endless. Hindi is an easy way to end theconfusion. A simple, practical knowledge of Hindi is what thecenter should have aimed for with persuasion and incentives -not imposition.

This is a political reality. In principle the understanding of HIndiby all citizens of India is a laudable objective. The lack of com-munication between the elites who have little knowledge of thelanguage spoken by the majority has led to the current situationwhere the gullible masses are led into a garden path of past glo-ry.

No attempt is being made to strengthen the institutions likethe Dakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha to carry the knowledgeof Hindi to the masses. That is sad!

The Hindi filmindustry is stillrunning behind theusual “formula” basedcontent. There is noexperimentation beingdone. Actor AbhayDeol believes the webspace is a “godsentopportunity” becauseit provides opportunityto experiment.

In Hollywood, theirdrama became so goodon TV that now youonly see superherofilms releasing (intheatres) as cinemahas become all about aspectacle. If you wantto watch good drama, then you watch it onHBO or Netflix.

In India, filmshave never actuallygone beyond theformula. But there areexpectations forBollywood to matchup. The 43-year-oldactor, was himself apart of Shah RukhKhan-starrer Zero, which fell flat at thebox office.

The audience isdone with “larger thanlife stories” in Hindifilms. That’s thereason why Abhay ismaking his digitaldebut with Netflix’sChopsticks.

In Sachin Yardi-directed Chopsticks,Abhay will be seenplaying a conmanalongside actressMithila Palkar. This

‘Chopsticks’ is a film without ‘formula’ based contentis not the first timeAbhay will be seenplaying a conman. Itis a role he memora-bly played in OyeLucky! Lucky Oye!.This (Chopsticks)character is far moresuave and urban fromthe Oye Lucky! LuckyOye! character. Andfor him, stealing issomething he doeswith a passion. It’ssomething he’s goodat.

Chopsticks is anIndian Hindi-language comedydrama film directedby Sachin Yardi andproduced by AshviniYardi. It starsAbhay Deol andMithila Palkar inthe lead roles. Thefilm is a story of awoman who isreferred to anenigmatic con manwho agrees to helprecover her stolencar from a thug forfree, and how itbrings about changein their lives. It wasreleased on 31 May2019 worldwide onNetflix.

The film hasAbhay Deol as Artist,a con man, MithilaPalkar as NirmaSahastrabuddhe, aMandarin translator,Vijay Raaz as FaiyazBhai, BenafshaSoonawalla as Anan-ya, Achint Kaur as

Zacharia and Naren-dra Khatri as Farooq,a caterer.

Rohan Naahar ofthe Hindustan Timesrates the film withtwo out of five stars. He feels it has mud-dled story which islow on comedy, and

writes, “Like theinconvenient cutlery itis named after, there’slittle reason to try it ifthere are alternativesto be found.” ShrishtiNegi of the News18also rates the filmwith two out of five

stars and opines thatthe film never rose toits true potential.Anupama Chopra ofFilm Companionopines that thehumour inherent in asitcom has not comeout as the film scenesare preposterous.

The movie talksabout what happenswhen a young girl, amysterious con man,and a goat-loving goonindulge in a cat-and-mouse chase toretrieve a stolen car? This is what unfolds

in Netflix’s latestIndian originaloffering, Chopsticks, starring Abhay Deoland Mithila Palkar. The film has beenwritten and directedby Sachin Yardi (KyaSuper Kool HainHum).

This is the plot. The film talksabout a cat-and-mouse chase inpursuit of a stolencar. An under-confident yet sweetyoung girl buysherself a brand newcar from her hard-earned money, onlyto get it stolen thesame evening. Therest of the filmchronicles herquirky but transfor-mative journey toretrieve her carfrom a local gang-ster, with the helpof a charming conman.

Chopsticks, in away, is like a start-up idea that soundscool, to begin with, but when put toaction, it fails tomake a mark. Thefilm’s initial half-

an-hour is engaging, and promises anentertaining ride.

Abhay and Mithilaplay their top game.Mithila Palkar (LittleThings, Karwaan) asthe shy and naiveNirma Sahastrabud-

dhe, working as aMandarin translatorin Mumbai, delivers asweet and memorableperformance. She isenjoyable in almost allher scenes. On theother hand, AbhayDeol, as an eccentricand charming conman, is effortlesslycompelling. Forsomeone who haspulled off way harderroles, this one is aneasy picking. VijayRaaz and ArunKushwah are great.Vijay Raaz as theshort-tempered localgangster, Fayyazbhai, who, for someunknown reason, isobsessed with goats, isflawless as usual.Having done uncount-able roles of this kindin the past, this is aneasy turf for the GullyBoy actor. ArunKushwah also appearsin a small role, in theform of a saving gracein this otherwiseboring film.

Netflix has aggres-sively targeted Indiafor growth and thenew projects willfollow the criticallyacclaimed crimedrama series SacredGames, upcomingcricket drama showSelection Day and theeagerly anticipatedhistorical epic series

Soon, she embarks on athrilling adventurewhen she enlists anattractive conman MrArtist (Abhay Deol)who eventuallybecomes her guidetoward recovering herstolen car from aMumbai thug.

Abhay Deol’scharacter is so coolthat he can open anysafe or lock withoutthe keys. How? Well,he believes that everylock has a heart and

he simply needs tohear its heartbeat toopen it. Deol’s comicalsmirk of complicity isappealing, and soon wesee Nirma and he arehanging out, havingfun and not admittingto themselves or eachother their growingtenderness.

There’s a goat-loving gangster, too,in the movie— playedby incredibly excep-tional Vijay Raaz. However, his scenesare only limited togiving out weirdpunishments topeople.

Worrying factor about waterThy name is life and water is part and parcel

of our life. Three fourths of earth’s surface iscovered by water and only one fourth is landmass as per geographical survey. Most peopleknow it and it is time to keep an eye on waterposition available at our disposal. What many ofus do not know is that 97.5% of the water avail-able in earth is salt water and unworthy of drink-ing and bathing. Only 2.5% of earth’s water issweet water of which roughly 68% is held as icein Arctic and Antarctic region. Of remaining32% of 2.5% most quantities are stored in un-derground and in various kinds of organic andinorganic matters. It is only a mini minusculepart, precisely 0.26% of entire water of the worldwhich is in all the rivers, lakes, ponds and otherwater bodies which are the only sources of sweetsurface water available to living beings and theneed to preserve and protect is of our utmostimportance. So preserving water and not pollut-ing it is of paramount importance and each and

everyone of us in a thickly populated countrylike India should realize this and control usagewater to the optimum level.

It is reliably learnt that levels of live waterstorage across drought hit Maharashtra are at7.7%, the lowest in the decade for this time ofthe year and that is alarming. In Marathwada,it is down to 0.7%. Add to the water shortage, asevere heatwave continued to sweep India’snorthern plains as 10 places in the region fig-ured on the list of 15 hottest places in the world.Rajasthan’s Churu and Sri Ganganagar, wherethe mercury shot up to 48.9 and 48.6 degreeCelsius, were the hottest places in the world fol-lowed by Jacobabad (48 degree Celsius) in Paki-stan, according to El Dorado Weather website.Uttar Pradesh’s Banda (47.4 degree Celsius) andNarnual (47.2 degree Celsius) in Haryana alsofeatured on the list. The water level will comedown drastically in these areas following theheatwave.

In a reality check we observe on the WorldWater Day that the source of ground water isdrying up in this country and the alarming wor-ry about water levels continue. Many of the pro-posed smart cities in India lacks basic infrastruc-ture and the decision to include them is defeatedwith the drawbacks particularly lack of drink-ing water and usable water. Thus we are introubled water and India’s largest state UP topsthe list. Wells and bore wells serve the purposewhen there is water shortage.

As water levels go down considerably weshould plan for Rain Water Harvesting as inTamil Nadu and other neighbouring states. Allthrough our childhood and growing up years, whenever we had an opportunity to play in wa-ter or leave the tap open with water flowing downthe drains, as elders always used to reprimandus for stating that with every drop of water, wast-

ed it was money that was getting wasted. Neverdid we realise the consequences or the connectionbetween water and money, but now with the sortsof situation that we are heading towards and placedon the brink of a catastrophe and buying waterwith ground water drying up, remember the gold-en words. It is time for retrospection at this crucialjuncture as the water shortage threat throughoutthe world is catching up thick and fast.

We believe, in India we have not taken the is-sue of water on top priority. Still there is no properand concrete guidelines to restrict the malpractic-es, misutilisation of water. There is no segregationof water in India. Drinking water is used for wash-ing clothes, gardening, cleaning cars, roads andthe most important usage in huge and bulk by thehousing sector. No policy for industrial water andthe wastage continued in every field without any-body bothering about water. The worrying factorabout water is the main concern all over the worldand India with highest population may find theway tough.

There is no policy of restricting the usage ofdrinking water for multipurpose requirements. Itis a matter of great regret that we pay water taxand impurified water is supplied at doorstep whichis then purified by various process to obtain drink-able water. Despite the fact that water is suppliedby Government Agencies, we talk big and hardlybelieve in doing minimum. Adjust your daily hab-its to save litres of clean fresh water every day.

While brushing your teeth, use a glass of waterinstead of a running tap for wetting the brush andrinsing. A running tap can waste about 16 litres ofwater each minute. When taking bath shower in-stead of a bath and limit your showers to a maxi-mum of four minutes. For shaving use a cup, sinkor container of warm water to clean the shaver inrather than a warm running tap. Never shave inthe shower. Clearing dishes after the meal requiremore water and so scrape and compost your foodwaste instead of rinsing it off plates and dishes. Atthe time of washing dishes, rinse dishes in a buck-et and use the water on the garden after wards. Indishwasher do not rinse dishes before putting themin the dishwasher. It is time to save water or wewill have to face acute water shortage if monsoonrains fail miserably this time.

Ensure you only do full loads of washing, if pos-sible using cold water and adjusting water levelsto suit the size of loads. Instead of waiting for thewarm water to arrive try and capture the waterthat flows out of the shower or tap prior to it beingthe right temperature and put it on the garden.Fix dripping taps and toilets quickly. They canwaste up to 13 litres of water a day.

Fresh water is the life blood of nature. Withoutit, we would not have clean air, food, drink andmany aesthetic and recreational benefits. There-fore, we need to ensure we use water in a sustain-able way – we need to share it with all life on theplanet and respect and value this ‘life blood’. Theconsequences of doing otherwise can be seen in thespreading deserts across the world and the result-ing drought and famine that can soon follow.

US gun culture causing concernLatest shooting on Virginia beach opened up

the Pandora’s Box and the gun culture in US iscausing concern and the young generation is mis-

Letters to the Editor....led by these unfortunate events taking place ev-ery now then in schools and Gurudwaras all cre-ating panic among the people. It is common inUS that the Gun culture is going overboard andeven late President of US, John F. Kennedy wasalso killed in a planned attack in 1963 by a sharpshooter.

Things have not improved much and the peo-ple fear gathering in Churches and Gurudwarasin America fearing such relentless attack on dur-ing prayers. It is a mass killing and the dearlife has not value in States. A disgruntled publicutilities employee caused berserk and killedmany of his colleagues in anger. Ugliest out-come of mighty market economy, when it hashappened in almost every month, USA mustintrospect and aspirants may take a note.American society is imploding. Lop sidedprogress— only in the material zone without anyeducation in the spiritual zone. Human life haslost value in USA. This is the most devastatingday in the history of Virginia Beach.

There is mass disruption in peace and thelast Las Vegas shooting was the worst of its kindin recent times. People were running here andthere to save their lives and it was pathetic scene.People scramble for cover after hearing gunshotsat the Harvest country music festival and it wasa horrible scene to witness. It was one minutedancing and in the next moment they were flee-ing. In all 58 victims died and 500 others werewounded in the deadliest mass shooting in UShistory.

Gun culture is causing concern as a 64 yearold man at a Las Vegas hotel showered gunfireon a huge outdoor musical concert and inflictedmany deaths and number of them were wound-ed. As in the past the Islamic State group hasclaimed responsibility for the mass shooting. Thegunman fired indiscriminately at the crowdfrom the 32nd floor and hence it caused widespread loss of life in a big gathering. It is timeto combat terror activities in total and US cantake lead role in eliminating the terror groupswith concerted efforts with the help of countrieslike India, France, Spain and Russia. It is nowor never situation and need a permanent solu-tion.

Day in and day out incidence of violence areincreasing every where but when it happens incivilized so called democracies it becomes a causeof concern for every one as to where the modernsociety is lacking in inculcating right kind ofvirtues in every one where instead of resortingviolence every one should think about the peaceand harmony and try to know as to what trou-bles such individuals or group of individuals thatthey burst out their anger, despondency, frus-tration by inflicting so much sorrow and pain. The statesmen, philosophers, academicians andsocial workers and elite must find out some wayfrom where all such mentally ill people couldcome out. Such situations are not mere law andorder problem but it is more than that. Humansneeds a right kind of environment to live.

The mass shooting in the coastal resort ofVirginia Beach was the deadliest instance of U.S.gun violence since November 2018, when a doz-en people were slain at a Los Angeles-area barand grill by a gunman who then killed himself. It is an eye opener and the US governmentshould bring an ordinance as in New Zealand tomake sure that the gun culture does not dis-rupt public peace in general and attacks on reli-gious places in particular.

Q.1) Share your experi-ence of your first hitsongs like “Who Lamhe”in Zeher and “Aadat” inKalyug?

In fact, Wo Lam-he in Zeher and Aa-dat - both of themwere not my originalcompositions; theywere adaptationwhich were done le-gally and properlycredited as well. So Ithink they were goodplatform for me tostart off and commu-nicate with my listen-ers in terms of musicproduction. I comefrom a background ofmusic theory ar-rangement and forme to do somethingwas very excitingback than when I wasjust 19. After that Istarted off with myindependent originalcomposition from BasEk Pal and after thatI have never doneany further recre-ation. I think therewere good songs tostart off from but thenI left recreating be-hind back then.Q.2) Parents are regard-ed as God those whohave brought us to thiswonderful world and wehave observed that yougive full credit to yourfather for your success-ful journey, Comment?

I think for everyson his father is com-pletely irreplaceableand the way a fatherinfluences his chil-dren I think it’s no-body else in thisworld can do becausethe first superherothat a child actuallymeets is nobody buthis father same is inmy case I thinkwhatever I am todayas a musician as acomposer and even asa human being I oweit to my father It washis passion and thehonour he earnedamong the fraternitywhich inspired me totake the music infirst place. And it wasbecause of training, guidance and inspira-tion that he gave me

that I started my ca-reer at the age of 19which saved a lot oftime for me and he hasstood by me like a rockand I think that is oneposition which is com-pletely irreplaceable inmy life.Q.3) Elaborate as to why in10 years in the industryyou have done less than

15 films with very few soloor complete movies?

I always believed inworking on my ownterms. In fact even insome of my first filmsthat I did I really re-membered being veryvery firm about mywork patterns. I trulyfeel blessed that I get towork with people whowere gracious enough togive my space and mytime. And even today Itake my own time to dothe music which I do. Ilove my music. I lovethe process of creatingmusic. And I enjoy itand I am not there toprove the point to theamount of work I do,but I believe whateverI put out should bequality, genuine, sin-cere, honest music thatis my mantra that Ihave been I followingand I am very happydoing that. As far assolo film are concernedI have done some goodsolo films The Train,Agar, Lamha, LastYear Shabd which alsowon earned me an in-ternational for its mu-

sic was an solo soundtrack and its highly ap-preciated music evenAkshar 2 was solo songtrack. I have been do-ing some good solo songstracks as well as I donot have problem shar-ing because it also suitskind of work patterns Ihave that if I have to doone or two songs than I

get that much moretime and I take monthson those songs and Ienjoy that also andsome of my best ofworks come on sharedsound tracks includingAashique 2 so individ-ually I don’t have anyproblems.Q.4) It is said that some-time you take one monthfor one song, Comment onit?

So my previous an-swer just replies that.I really enjoy the pro-cess a lot and I spendlots of my time on mu-sic. Until and unless Iam fully convincedwhat I have done I my-self don’t play to my di-rectors. I have a verycritical self analyticalprocess which I gothrough that so whymy music has the kindof impact it does on mylisteners.Q.5) How it was composingall the songs for Ajay Devgnmovie Shivaay, Comment?

Working on Shivaaywas one of the adventur-ous experience for mebecause I think AjayDevgn is a very passion-

ate filmmaker apartfrom the great actor heis known to be. He real-ly inspires you a lot andthe best thing is hepushes you to do whatyou have never done. The Shivaay title trackand even the love songin the film call Dark-hast was a very newexperience for me be-

cause I see love frommelancholy perspectivebut he wanted me todelve into the adventur-ous side of love and Ireally enjoyed it. Eventhe BGM the film wasshot so beautifully andit has such a powerfulscript and such an emo-tional journey that scor-ing for the film was atreat and I took 35 daysto do the BGM and theway everything I shapedup I am really veryproud of it.Q.6) How important is themusic for a film?

I think music hasalways been very impor-tant in cinema rightfrom the beginning. Beit in Hindi Cinema orWorld Cinema. Andspeaking of Hindi cine-ma I would say of songsapart from music evenBGM is universally very

crucial it’s a characterin the film. Song aresoul of any Hindi filmsand I come from theschool of makers likeRaj Kapoor, Guru Dutt,Raj Khosla, MaheshBhatt and makers likeSubhash Ghai Sahabwho have actuallyshown that how musiccan be a greatest nar-

rative a film makers canuse. And we as an Indi-ans are very much mu-sically oriented and weare emotional listeners. We have so much mu-sic in our country likeclassical, Hindustani, folk, semi classical andall is integrated intoHindi films and thatwill always be the foun-dational pillar of our cin-ema and it should al-ways remain which Idon’t want to change.Q.7) Let us knows aboutyour future projects andalso plans?

I have many inter-esting projects Linedup. I have got Ek Villain2 with Mohit Suri alsohis very ambitiousproject called MerryChristmas which willhappen sometimearound next year, I havegot Satellite Shankar

happening. I am scor-ing music for a film ti-tled ‘The List’ whichis my first globalproject.Q.8) Earlier melodies werethe soul of the films andlyrics were meaningfulbut today a trend haschanged what is your in-put on it?
