9.5 group 1 apps for good competition entry 2015
TRANSCRIPT
The Weather Wardrobe is an Android App to help busy people plan what to wear by
recommending outfits based on the weather forecast for that day.
What is it?
Ideal for busy people who don’t have time to check the weather forecast each morning
Outfit suggestions make it simple and quick to decide what to wear based on what’s in your wardrobe
Dress appropriately based on the weather forecast and the suitability of clothes to that type of weather
What does it do?
User Research
We surveyed a range of possible users for their feedback on our app
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/K8VSLMC
We received 37 responses from a range of people-- Male and female
-- Young and old
Survey results
The survey showed that 62% of respondents were positive about the
app and 81% replied that they might use the app if it was available
today. Currently 75% of respondents use an app to check the weather
at least some of the time, but only 66% ever plan what clothes to wear,
which presents an opportunity to develop something new for them.
Key insight statement(s)
According to our survey, people believe our app will solve a problem for them in a new and different way.
It will help me using my clothes in new combinations but
also ensure I'll use all my clothes
Easy to get nice looking outfits which are practical without
searching my wardrobe for things
which look nice
Time saving. Would save me checking the BBC weather site and then having to figure
out what to get ready
So I wouldn't have to look out the window whilst I'm naked, or
shout down the stairs to my mum
Its a good idea and combines 2 different
problems
Key insight statement(s)
According to our survey, people think the following features would be useful in the app:
• Assuming you use gps/location tracking and access weather information from somewhere. What about
changeable weather? • If the weather is going to be wet in the morning but sunny in the afternoon, I would like to see the suggestions give
you a warning eg to wear a T-shirt but also take a coat or umbrella for the morning. Also, weather check for where you are going rather than where you are now
• It would be nice if it was for multiple country's so you could use it if you were on holiday.• I think an app that automatically checks the weather and then recommends what you should be thinking of wearing
makes sense. Eg if below x degrees wear a coat, gloves, scarf. If it's wet a raincoat or umbrella, if it's sunny
sunglasses etc. The app should push message these tips rather than needing to open the app to get the recommendation.
• If you could add in frequency of outfit, that would be helpful. For example, it's a perfect day to wear outfit A or B, but you've most recently worn B, so choose A.
• manually chose where the weather forecasts are from and constant update from normal weather forecasts. rate /10 how good an outfit was so the app knows whether to suggest the outfit again or not use it
• a more general option that does not involve taking pics of your clothes
• I would like to be able to create a wardrobe from checklists, rather than photos
• When you buy new items scan bar code instead of photographs.
Pop up notifications
Removes the need to open the app in
order to see a summary of weather and
recommendations for the day
Simple Screens
Makes the app easy to use, and clearly
shows the essentials and main point of that
particular screen.
A Forecast of Weather
Means that the app can be used to pack for
holidays, as well as every-day use.
Feasibility
• Our app only requires the use of an external database, and the rest can easily be stored on the mobile device
• We would not need a datacentre as the weather is a widely available database.
• The only foreseeable problem is the personalised wardrobe option, as this would need many added information about the item that has been manually entered, and the process could become exceptionally lengthy and many users would not want to use the feature.
