What is Book Sage?

We are developing an app to help adults with young children find books for their

children to read with preference based recommendations. Studies have shown that

people who enjoy reading are going to learn more from it, and our unique app idea

is the only one which, if made, could motivate children to read more often as well

as enjoy reading and get the most out of it. We believe our app is the more effective

than any other similar apps out there, as it can get children to enjoy reading,

improve linguistic skills, and this can help them out in a variety of topics

consequently making it an idea with one of the largest impacts and potential

audiences.

The Background Inspiration of our Idea

• Many children don’t read often enough

• Parents often have a hard time finding a book to interest their children

• Children’s interest in reading may affect their future

• Reading is important to build up vocabulary and improves linguistic skills

Problem

• Many Parents have said that they have problems finding

books for their children to read, and that children would

often refuse to read books that didn’t interest them.

• We found that many children are interested in reading, but

often are stuck on what to read next and often have

difficulties finding a book that interests them.

User Research Module• We have learned that many of our users don’t read very often, even in

their free time, because they find little enjoyment in it. This is usually

because they are uninterested in the books given to them.

• We also found out that some parents have difficulties in motivating

their children to read, and if they are, they often have difficulties in

finding books they enjoy.

• Over 90% of parents and readers agreed that having books

recommended based on preferences would solve the above issues.

How do I encourage my

children to read?

Insight Statements

• Through our research, we have found that most of our

users would be more motivated to read through our

recommendations.

• Our research has also found that the majority of our

users would read more often is they had more books they

are interested in to read.

• The only app we found which are similar are apps such as Amazon and Kindle, which can help you find books, but provide no help in

recommending them.

• There are many alternate solutions, such as “The Sight Word Adventure” but these are usually mini-games involving words, which

do not encourage reading, especially for a larger audience.

Competitors or Alternate Solutions

• Our app will allow users to view popular books, in

addition to books found based on their preferences.

• Our users will be able to set themselves targets, and can

choose if they want to be reminded through notifications.

• The app will allow users to record what they have done,

such as when they finished a book.

Problems and Feasibility

• We believe our app is feasible, as most of the

features will be accessed offline.

• The biggest problem that could be faced would

be getting server space for all of the user

written reviews.

Our Business Model

• We have chosen a model where the app is free and any money would

come form advertising for other related apps like the kindle app. We

would allow users to upgrade the app to block adverts.

• Our app is used by a mostly parental audience, but the main audience

we are trying to influence are children up to early teens.

• People would download our app because it would provide more

accurate recommendations than any other competition or solutions.

Marketing Strategies

Social Media – Many people use social media: an effective way to get to a larger audience, through posts, surveys etc.

Handouts and Leaflets – App can be summarised to a large number of people who use high streets.

Word of mouth – Using persuasion and answering questions to gain support and avoid scepticism.

Our Website

We created a website which summarises what our app is and its purpose, as well as including our group video, and links to

our surveys and social media accounts.
