ATTENTION FOODIES! "FOOD AND FRIENDS" IS ABOUT TO BEGIN! The Journey announces a new opportunity for us to get to know each other a little better, while taking advantage of the DC area being a gastronomic target-rich environment. "Food and Friends" will start out with 6 groups, each with a sponsoring single or couple. The idea is for 6-8 individuals in each group, sharing a meal 3-4 times over a 4-month period. Can be home pot-lucks or a favorite restaurant or pub. For families who wish, the church will make the kitchen and play space downstairs available for carry-out or potluck. Groups are purely social in nature. We hope many of our new families and recent guests will give it a try, although the groups are open to all who wish to join. Sign up sheets are in the lobby. Sign up this month - first meals in Janu-ary. For more information, contact Jim Pruitt with ConneXion Ministries at [email protected].

COMMUNION PREPARATION FOR 2016 Have you been looking for a place to serve at the Journey? We need people to prepare communion. Making sure that everyone can participate in remembering the sacrifice that Jesus made for us is perhaps one of the most important and rewarding tasks you can have! We need people to prep & set up before 1st service and be-tween services, and someone to clean up after 2nd service. You’ll see a sign up sheet in the lobby reflecting these two areas. Normally sign up is on a monthly basis, but if you can only serve one or two weeks in a month, that’s OK, too! Easy to follow in-structions and all supplies are provided. If you can help, sign up on the sheet in the lobby, or just talk to Judy Davis. For more information, contact [email protected].

Sermon Outline

John 20:30-31 NCV, “Jesus did many other miracles in the presence of his followers that are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son

of God. Then, by believing, you may have life through his name.”

If Jesus had never been born…We would have never known what God is like…

John 1:1-2 (CEV), “In the beginning was the one who is called the Word. The Word was with God

and was truly God. From the very beginning the Word was with God.”

John 1:14 (MSG), “The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, generous inside

and out, true from start to finish.”

John 14:9 (NCV), “Jesus answered, ‘I have been with you a long time now. Do you still not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. So why do you say, “Show us the Fa-

ther”?’”

Colossians 1:15 (NLT), “Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before any-

thing was created and is supreme over all creation…”

John 1:4-5 (NCV), “In him there was life, and that life was the light of all people. The Light shines

in the darkness, and the darkness has not overpowered it”

John 1:9-10 (NCV), “The true Light that gives light to all was coming into the world! The Word

was in the world, and the world was made by him, but the world did not know him.”

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

We would have never known about His amazing love for us…

1 John 4:16 (NCV), “And so we know the love that God has for us, and we trust that love. God is

love. Those who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.”

John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes

in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Ephesians 3:18 (NCV), “And I pray that you and all God's holy people will have the power to un-derstand the greatness of Christ's love—how wide and how long and how high and how deep that

love is.”

We would have never felt His incredible forgiveness…

Matthew 1:21 (NCV), “She will give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus, because he will

save his people from their sins.”

Jeremiah 17:9 (NIV), “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can under-

stand it?”

Mark 7:21-22 (NLT), “For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immo-rality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and

foolishness.”

Isaiah 53:6 NCV, “We all have wandered away like sheep; each of us has gone his own way. But

the Lord has put on him the punishment for all the evil we have done.”

Romans 5:8, “But God shows his great love for us in this way: Christ died for us while we were

still sinners.”

Ephesians 1:7 (NLT), “He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with

the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.”

Colossians 2:13-14 (NCV), “When you were spiritually dead because of your sins and because you were not free from the power of your sinful self, God made you alive with Christ, and he for-gave all our sins. He canceled the debt, which listed all the rules we failed to follow. He took away

that record with its rules and nailed it to the cross.”

1 Peter 1:18-19 (NCV), “You know that in the past you were living in a worthless way, a way passed down from the people who lived before you. But you were saved from that useless life. You were bought, not with something that ruins like gold or silver, but with the precious blood of

Christ, who was like a pure and perfect lamb.”

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________

We would have never known that we could live forever with Him…

John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes

in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

John 14:1-3 (NCV), “Jesus said, ‘Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house; I would not tell you this if it were not true. I am going there to prepare a place for you. After I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back

and take you to be with me so that you may be where I am.’”

Reflection…
