Sermon Outline

Lee Strobel wrote, “It turns out that most modern findings of contemporary science have estab-lished that science and faith are not at war but that science, when done right, points powerfully toward the existence of a God who happens to match the description of the God of the Bible. It is a stunning affirmation of what the Bible says about God in Colossians 1:16 (MSG), ‘For every-thing, absolutely everything, above and below, visible and invisible...everything got started in him and finds its purpose in him.’” Internal Reasons to Believe First of all, apart from God life is insignificant and meaningless Ecclesiastes 1:2-8 NLT, “‘Everything is meaningless,’ says the Teacher, ‘completely meaning-less!’ What do people get for all their hard work under the sun? Generations come and genera-tions go, but the earth never changes. The sun rises and the sun sets, then hurries around to rise again. The wind blows south, and then turns north. Around and around it goes, blowing in cir-cles. Rivers run into the sea, but the sea is never full. Then the water returns again to the rivers and flows out again to the sea. Everything is wearisome beyond description. No matter how much we see, we are never satisfied. No matter how much we hear, we are not content.” G.K. Chesterton once said, “Feelings of despair don't come so much from having a lack of things but having an excess of things.” Steven Hawking, a Cambridge professor of Mathematics said, “Science must be content to de-scribe the 'what' of human observation. Only God can describe the 'why.'” Ecclesiastes 2:4 (NLT), “I also tried to find meaning by building huge homes for myself…” Ecclesiastes 2:5 (NLT), “I made gardens and parks, filling them with all kinds of fruit trees.” Ecclesiastes 2:7-8a NLT, “I bought slaves, both men and women, and others were born into my household. I also owned large herds and flocks, more than any of the kings who had lived in Jeru-

salem before me. I collected great sums of silver and gold, the treasure of many kings and provinces. I hired wonderful singers, both men and women…” Ecclesiastes 2:8b NLT, “…and had many beautiful concubines. I had everything a man could desire!” Ecclesiastes 2:10 NLT, “Anything I wanted, I would take. I denied myself no pleasure.” Ecclesiastes 2:11 NLT, “But as I looked at everything I had worked so hard to accomplish, it was all so meaningless—like chasing the wind. There was nothing really worthwhile any-where.” Ecclesiastes 2:11, “Vanity! Vanity! The whole thing was vanity!” Brad Pitt, in an interview with Rolling Stone Magazine, “If you ask me, I say toss all this. We have to find something else. The emphasis now is on success and personal gain. I'm sitting in it, and I'm telling you that's not it. I'm the guy who has everything, I know. I'm telling you that once you have everything then you are just left with yourself.” Secondly, apart from God real life change can never be fully realized Ecclesiastes 1:9-10 NLT, “History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. Sometimes people say, ‘Here is something new!’ But actually it is old; nothing is ever truly new.” Ecclesiastes 12:13 NLT, “That’s the whole story. Here now is my final conclusion: Fear God and obey his commands, for this is everyone’s duty.” Reflection…

CENTRAL INDIA CHRISTIAN MIS-

SION (CICM) Ajai and Indu Lall started CICM in December 1982 with a dream to obey Jesus’ Great Com-

mission by establishing a mission center in their homeland. From the very begin-ning they focused on evangelism, church planting and leadership training. What started with these two faithful servants has grown into a multifaceted mission helping thousands of people each year through evangelistic and benevolent minis-

tries.

Evangelism: From CICM’s beginning their outreach has grown and now extends to 11 states of central and northern India, and the neighboring countries of Bangla-

desh, Bhutan and Nepal.

Church Planting: With God’s help, CICM’s evangelists have planted and lead many churches. Within these churches are people whose lives have been changed by the Gospel message. People have discovered a new way of living, filled with hope and

faith in the Living God and grounded in the truth of His Word.

Leadership Training: CICM provides training for their evangelists. Some earn a theology degree from Bible colleges in India. Most complete evangelist training at

our Biblical Academy at the CICM campus.

Benevolent Ministries include a Children’s Ministry, a Medical Ministry and an

Emergency Disaster Service.

LABELS FOR EDUCATION - MOUNTAIN MISSION SCHOOL Please save the UPC code/lids from the products listed in the flyer which, due to construction, is now located behind the information desk. Also save the “Box Tops for Education” coupons on various products, including Kleenex tissues, cake mixes, and frozen prod-ucts. Place them in the box also provided on the shelf at the infor-mation desk. They will be sent to the Mountain Mission School in Grundy, Virginia. These labels are greatly appreciated by them as they can use them to get a variety of different supplies & equipment that the school couldn’t get otherwise! One thing to keep in mind - don’t hold onto your “Box Tops” too long - they do expire and they can’t use them if the date on them is past.

NEED PRAYER? If you have an urgent prayer need, one that needs prayer before Sunday, there are several ways to get the word out to our prayer warriors:

• Go to our website, thejourneysite.org, and click on "Prayer Re-quest" on the Welcome (front) page. From there you can fill out a form that will be sent to the Journey office.

• Email your request directly to Vicki Becker at [email protected] - she will send your request out to our email prayer team.

• Call the office! We can forward your request on to Vicki if you are not able to.

If you would like to have your name added to the Email prayer team, please contact Vicki Becker at [email protected]. Vicki will email you when she is contacted with urgent prayer needs. Your prayers are appreciated!

Opportunities to Serve

LEAD USHERS NEEDED - VOLUNTEER TODAY! Are looking for a place to serve, but you’re a behind-the-scenes kind of person? We’re looking for some good men and women to help serve as ushers in one of our three services to ensure that the worship service runs smoothly. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact Gabe Stewart [email protected].

After the service, take a walk out and look at the Journey Garden. This year, a dedicated group of volunteers has planted and grown a variety of vegetables which are then donated to help feed those in need. So far this year, the Journey garden

has provided over 700 pounds of tomatoes, cucumbers, melons, beans, squash, eggplant, okra, and peppers to Koinonia, our local food bank to help the needy. Thanks to all the volunteers already helping out! If you are interested in helping , contact Dennis Corcoran at 703-644-6331 or e-mail him at [email protected].
