Sermon Outline

1. This prayer is only recorded twice in Scripture and the wording is different in each prayer.

2. The disciples said, “Teach us to pray” not “teach us a prayer.” 3. Jesus warns us against repetitive prayers. 4. This prayer is repeated nowhere else in the New Testament. Elmer Towns put it this way, “The effective prayer is not measured by how loud you pray, or how long you pray, or even if you say the words of the Lord’s Prayer again and again in a repetitious fashion. Your prayer life will be effective if you are sincere and if you ask for the right things.” So, what does this model prayer teach us? First of all…it teaches us to recognize and celebrate God for being God Matthew 6:9, “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name…”

We are to pray, “Our Father in heaven” John 1:12-13 (NLT), “But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.” “For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship (adoption). And by him we cry, "Abba, Father." (Romans 8:15)

We are to pray, “Hallowed be your name” Isaiah 57:15 says (CEV), “Our holy God lives forever in the highest heavens, and this is what he says: Though I live high above in the holy place, I am here to help those who are humble and depend only on me.”

Sermon Notes

I Pet 3:15 NIV, “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord." John 12:27-28a (NLT), “Now my soul is deeply troubled. Should I pray, ‘Father, save me from this hour?’ But this is the very reason I came! Father, bring glory to your name.” Psalm 29:2 (NLT), “Honor the LORD for the glory of his name. Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.” Reflection

JOURNEY MEALS TO GO Journey Meals To Go is an area of our church ministry that directly touches those in need. Currently, we provide meals to those that have had a new baby, had surgery or had any other circumstance arise that put them in need of meal sup-port. The meals are coordinated through the Meal Train website, making it sim-ple for the Journey Meals supporters and recipients to get all the important de-tails. If you or someone you know within the church is in need of support, or if you would like to help provide meals, please contact Abby Bulliner at [email protected] or

ARE YOU MISSING SOMETHING? We have a small "lost and found" location behind the guest welcome booth in the front foyer. We'll keep stuff for 30 days and then send it along to our local charity clothing bank or the Salvation Army. Not finding it here? Check down at the infor-mation booth for Journey Kidz - they have a box, too! Check with Jim Pruitt at [email protected] .

LABELS FOR EDUCATION - MOUNTAIN MISSION SCHOOL Please save the UPC code/lids from the products listed in the flyer which, due to construction, is now located behind the information desk. Also save the “Box Tops for Education” coupons on various products, including Kleenex tissues, cake mixes, and frozen prod-ucts. Place them in the box also provided on the shelf at the infor-mation desk. They will be sent to the Mountain Mission School in Grundy, Virginia. These labels are greatly appreciated by them as they can use them to get a variety of different supplies & equipment that the school couldn’t get otherwise! One thing to keep in mind - don’t hold onto your “Box Tops” too long - they do expire and they can’t use them if the date on them is past.
