Sermon Outline

Our presentation this morning is based on the book “The Tale of Three Trees.” Once upon a mountaintop, three little trees stood and dreamed of what they wanted to become when they grew up. Each of their dreams come true in an unexpected way in this retelling of an old folk tale. Our Journey Kidz Players:

All Nations

Brandon & Julianna Jones (and Mikayla!) have been living in Cape Town, South Africa since 2010. Recently, they were sent out from Cape Town to establish a new work of their organization, All Nations, in eastern Africa. They are acting as strategic coordinators for this area (including East Afri-ca, Ethiopia & the Horn). Practically, this means that they are predominantly focused on (a) coach-ing and mentoring local leadership throughout the region, (b) inspiring, encouraging and walking with partner ministries in rethinking how cross cultural mission is done and (c) being a source of ongoing care and support to All Nations missionaries in the region. And all of this in line with their mission: to make disciples & train leaders to ignite church planting move-ments amongst the neglected peoples of the earth. WANTED: LEADERS!WANTED: LEADERS!WANTED: LEADERS!WANTED: LEADERS! As you can see, Journey Kidz Ministry is the place to be! It takes a village to train a child in the way he/she should go. We are in need of a few more leaders to help teach and encourage our kids. If you are not serving yet, please look and see where you might like to help! Volunteer Applications are available at the Journey Kidz Check-In desk.

PRAYER MINISTRY TEAM MEETING OVER AT THE JOURNEY OFFICE SUNDAYS AT 6:30 PM

Come join us as we enjoy our God through prayer, Sunday evenings at 6:30pm over at the Journey office (the white house). We will have a time to praise our Lord through prayer, as well as pray for each other’s needs and those of our church body.

Also keep in mind, even the disciples had to ask how to pray. So if this is an area of your life you want to grow in, come join us as we disciple each other in prayer. Let’s seek to live out Hebrews 10:19-23 together. If you have any questions, email Mike Ambroso at [email protected].

CONGREGATIONAL MEETING - DECEMBER 21 There will be a short congregational meeting after each service on December 21st. We will be affirming the new budget for 2015, and the new elders for 2015 will be announced. If you will not be able to attend the meeting, an absentee ballot is available in the lobby and on the website. A draft of the budget for 2015 is also available. All ac-tive members over the age of 16 are encouraged to attend. If you’re

not sure if you are eligible to participate, please feel free to contact the Journey office, (703) 971-0277 or email [email protected]. If you have questions on the budget, please contact Pete Becker <[email protected]>.

SPECIAL OFFERING FOR LIVING WATER We will be taking a special offering on December 21st & 28th to help build a well. Just make your checks out to the Journey and mark “Living Water” on the memo line. We have set up a table in the lobby with more information on the Advent Conspiracy and Living Water International, and there are special cards out on that table that you can use to let someone know that, instead of giving them a gift they don’t want, can’t use or don’t need, you have given the gift of clean water to someone in their name!

MEN’S MINISTRY EVENT JANUARY 24TH SAVE THE DATE - JANUARY 24TH - for a look at what’s NEW in men’s ministry. Women of the Jour-ney, you don’t want your husband’s to miss this!

JOURNEY BASKETBALL - WANNA PLAY SOME HOOPS? The Journey sponsors a men's team in the Church Fellowship League of Fairfax County. All games and practices are at the Word of Life gym, 5225 Backlick Road in Alexandria. Practices will be on Friday nights in December, and games begin in January and will be Thursday or Friday nights. Players should be at least 18 years of age and prepared for a

relatively high level of competition. Purchase of a team jersey and a small pro rata team fee are the only costs involved. Contact: Jim Pruitt at [email protected]

GIRLFRIENDS AND GOD TODAY Join us TODAY after 2nd service for the next gathering of Girlfriends and God. This month we are "God's Shining Stars." Let's get together to worship God and encourage each other to shine more brightly for His glory! A variety of soups & breads will be provided for lunch. Child care will be available. Please sign up in the lobby or in the upcoming evite. Also, for the holidays we are going to give a gift to Bethany House. Bethany House provides emergency shelter for women suffering from domestic abuse. Please bring a bottle of laundry detergent that will be taken to the shelter.

JOURNEY OUTDOORS DECEMBER 20 – The Journey is sponsor-ing "Journey Outdoors," a ministry designed to get you outside and moving at least one day a month for a great time of fellowship! Our next hike is scheduled for December 20th, and we’ll be doing a shorter one this month. It's Scott's Run, in McLean, and it's about a 2.2 mile loop. There are some variations on the hike that we can take, but it shouldn't be overly difficult. Meet here at the Journey at

9am so we can carpool. Steve McDonald will be heading up the hike this month, so for more information contact him at [email protected].

NO ADULT BIBLE STUDY STARTING THIS WEEK The Adult Bible Study has completed its study on 1 Thessalonians, and will be taking a break, at least until the renovations are com-plete. If there is interest in having a Bible Study then, the study will resume.

For more information, contact Bernie Frank - [email protected]

JOURNEY KIDZ SUNDAY TODAY! Today our Journey Kidz will be leading both Sunday Morning Services. This is a wonderful opportunity for our children to use their gifts and shine for Jesus! ♦ Gary Ulrich ♦ Mike Ambroso

♦ Jim Pruitt

COMMUNION PREPARATION FOR 2015 Have you been looking for a place to serve at the Journey? We need people to prepare communion. We need people to prep & set up before 1st service and between services, someone to clean up after 2nd service. You’ll see a sign up sheet in the lobby reflecting these two areas. Normally sign up is on a monthly basis, but if you can only serve one or two weeks in a month, that’s OK, too! Easy to follow instructions and all supplies are provided. If you can help, sign up on the sheet in the lobby, or just talk to Judy Davis. For more information, contact [email protected].

BLESSING BAGS FOR THE HOMELESS Our Tuesday Night Young Adult Life Group is sponsoring an outreach called “Blessing Bags for the Homeless.” The life group will stock back packs with non-perishable food, a blanket, toiletries and other small items that would be a blessing to the homeless near your home or work. All you need to do is buy the bag from church (Cost $25), and keep it in your car. When you come across someone who could be blessed by it, you give it to them. Pick one up in the

lobby TODAY.

If you have any questions about this outreach, please contact Andy Butler - [email protected]

Opportunities to Serve

ARE YOU MISSING SOMETHING? We have a small "lost and found" location behind the guest welcome booth in the front foyer. We'll keep stuff for 30 days and then send it along to our local charity clothing bank or the Salvation Army. Not finding it here? Check down at the infor-mation booth for Journey Kidz - they have a box, too! Check with Jim Pruitt at [email protected] .
