Sermon Outline

Chuck Swindoll wrote, "Whatever else may be said about a home, it's the bottom line of life, the anvil upon which attitudes and convictions are hammered out. It's the place where life's bills come due, the single most influential force in our earthly existence. No price tag can adequately reflect its value. No gauge can measure its influence—for good or for ill. It's a place where we come to terms with our circumstances and it's here that life makes up its mind." Proverbs 24:3-4, “By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established. And by knowledge the rooms are filled with precious and pleasant riches.” Matthew 7:24-27, “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.” The foundation that everything is built upon is Jesus

First of all, each of you has to personally invite Jesus to be the Lord and Savior of your lives

Secondly, you need to commit your family to Jesus and ask Him to help you be the husband/wife/parent that He wants you to be

Thirdly, you get into the church and you need to start hanging out with other couples who are committed to making their marriage and family work

Fourthly, read the Bible together, pray together and memorize the scripture together Now, why is this so important to do? Because there’s a God to whom we are ultimately ac-countable

Sermon Notes

2 Corinthians 5:10, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” Romans 8:18, “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” First of all, what have you done with Jesus? Have you personally invited Him to be the

Lord and Savior of your life?

Secondly, have you committed your family to Jesus; have you asked Him to help you be the husband/wife/parent that He wants you to be?

Thirdly, are you developing relationships with others who will strengthen your commit-ment to your marriage and family?

Fourthly, are you reading the Bible, praying and memorizing the scripture together?

tian non-profit human services organization, serving

individuals and families in the communities of Franco-

nia, East Springfield, Newington, and Kingstowne in Fairfax County, Virgin-

ia. Our mission is to give hope and help with compassion and care to individu-

als and families in our local community who are going through extenuating

circumstances, and are in need of emergency assistance.

HOW WE HELP

Mary's Food Pantry -- provides canned food, dry goods, a limited supply of meats and dairy products, cleaning supplies, and personal hygiene prod-

ucts. Clients may request pantry items every 3-4 weeks.

Clothing Closet -- holds essential items for the entire family, to include small household items. Clients and their family members may receive cloth-

ing twice annually.

Emergency Financial Assistance – provides help for rent/mortgage, utility as-sistance for electric, gas or water, and prescription drug assistance. Financial

Assistance is available once annually, not to exceed $200.

Each in-kind dollar received from our supporters is used to provide aid to an individual or family in need. Without the support of our community, we simp-

ly would not be able to provide hope and help!

LABELS FOR EDUCATION - MOUNTAIN MISSION SCHOOL Please save the UPC code/lids from the products listed in the flyer on the shelf in the mailroom. Also save the “Box Tops for Educa-tion” coupons on various products, including Kleenex tissues, cake mixes, and frozen products. Place them in the box also provided on the shelf in the mailroom. They will be sent to the Mountain Mission School in Grundy, Virginia. These labels are greatly appreciated by them as they can use them to get a variety of different supplies & equipment that the school couldn’t get otherwise! One thing to keep in mind - don’t hold onto your “Box Tops” too long - they do expire and they can’t use them if the date on them is past.

NEED MORE POWER? WE NEED MOWERS! We have slots open for people to mow the grounds. So if you en-joy being outdoors and having the feel of power beneath you, you’ve come to the right place. If you are interested in helping us mow the grass, sign up on the schedule in the lobby.

If you have not mowed before, you will need to see Don Davis for a quick session on the equipment before you start. Contact Don at [email protected].

COMMUNION PREPARATION FOR 2014 Have you been looking for a place to serve at the Journey? We need people to prepare communion. We need people to prep & set up before 1st service and between services, someone to clean up after 2nd service, and someone to do prep, set up and clean up for the 3rd service! You’ll see a sign up sheet in the lobby reflecting these three areas. Normally sign up is on a monthly basis, but if you can only serve one or two weeks in a month, that’s OK, too! Easy to follow instructions and all supplies are provided. If you can help, sign up on the sheet in the lobby, or just talk to Judy Davis. For more information, contact the Jour-ney office.

BLESSING BAGS FOR THE HOMELESS Our Tuesday Night Young Adult Life Group is sponsoring an outreach called “Blessing Bags for the Homeless.” The life group will stock back packs with non-perishable food, a blanket, toiletries and other small items that would be a blessing to the homeless near your home or work. All you need to do is buy the bag from church (Cost $20), and keep it in your car. When you come across someone who could be blessed by it, you give it to them. Pick one up in the

lobby TODAY.

If you have any questions about this outreach, please contact Andy Butler - [email protected]
