NUMBER 2011-12 SEPTEMBER 6, 2011

Dear friends,

I’m not sure where to start:

this Sunday, so much is going

to be happening! In wor-

ship, we will commemorate

the 10th anniversary of 9/11; the choir will return from

summer hiatus; our children’s programs will resume;

we will kick off our stewardship campaign with a spe-

cial potluck lunch; and our praise band will lead us in

some new & familiar songs. In addition, three of our

youth worked hard to complete the God & Family

program, and this Sunday in worship they will be rec-

ognized for their hard work during a special presenta-

tion that will take place during worship.

This Sunday, September 11, will be one Sunday

you will not want to miss. You might even want to

invite a friend to come with you!

Later that same day, the South Coast Interfaith

Council will be sponsoring a special 9/11 service of remembrance. I will be there, and I encourage you to

take some time out of your Sunday afternoon to at-

tend as well, as we continue our efforts with other

people of faith to find peace and understanding in our

world.

Through all of these events – and, indeed, through all

we do – our aim is to allow God to work through us

to bring wholeness to a fragmented world. I often

hear about how God has touched people’s lives

through the ministry of the  church. Sometimes a per-

son will tell me how God is using the church’s ministry

to reach out to them right now; other times I’ll hear

about things that happened months or even years in

the past. I am so grateful to know that lives are being

changed by what we do, and what we allow God to do

through us.
