    IN THIS ISSUE -

~ NEWS & NOTES ~ REKINDLE ~ SHOE DRIVE ~ and so much more.....

    Dear family,

Ive come to realize that one thing we at BKCC dont do very well is

toot our own horn. I know, its not good to toot ones own horn in

order to brag or boast; but on the other hand, sometimes it is good to

toot that horn, just to let others know that youre there and that

    something good is happening.

For example, we are once again an official drop-off location for the Kim Foot and Ankle

Shoe Drive. I confess that I really dont know much about this shoe drive; or rather, I

didnt, until I did a little research last week. I learned that the Kim Foot and Ankle ShoeDrive annually collects over 15,000shoes, which benefits people in need here in Los Ange-

les County and throughout the world. The opportunity we have to be a part of such a wor-

thy cause is certainly something we should be tooting our horn about.

Another wonderful organization that our congregation supports is Centro Shalom, which

is one of many organizations and ministries started by the South Coast Interfaith Council.

According to its mission statement, Centro Shalom provides pathways to health and self-

sufficiency to the underserved and impoverished of greater Long Beach and the surrounding

communities through core services and multi-level assistance. On Sunday, June 10, Centro

Shaloms Director, Amelia Nieto, will join us in worship so that we can learn more about this

wonderful organization and the work it does. There are many more ways that our congregation helps bring wholeness to fragmented

world. Here at Bixby Knolls Christian Church, we are blessed to have so many opportunities

to respond to the Spirits restless urging, stirring us up to do good, just as Jesus taught us.

    Pastor DannyA prayer for

    Bixby Knolls Christian Church

Use me to bring wholeness to my

    neighbor.

Use my church to bring wholeness to our

    community.

Show us how your kingdom of shalom can

be made real on earth through us.

Prayer lays hold of Gods plan and becomes

the link between his will and its accomplish-

ment on earth. Amazing things happen, and we

are given the privilege of being

the channels of the Holy Spirits

    prayer.

    Graduation

    SundayJune 10

Join us as we honor our

    graduates in worship.

Bicycles!Bicycles!Bicycles!Bicycles! On May 19, Bixby Knolls Christian Church hosted a Bike

Safety Rodeo for the community. A number of children &

families from the church and the community attended. They got to navigate a

bicycle obstacle course, learning important safety tips along the way. They even

got to blend a fruit smoothie using pedal power! Many thanks to those who

    helped out.

The following day, Kidical Mass took place on the streets of Bixby Knolls.

Over 300 children and adults participated on a community bike ride. Upon ar-

riving at their destination, they took part in a Blessing of the Bikes which was

    led by Pastor Danny.

At Pentecost, Gods Spirit gave the disciples

the ability to speak in languages that were

not their own a sure sign that the way of

Jesus is not exclusive, but inclusive and

welcoming of all people. One of the lan-guages we at BKCC are learning to speak is

the language of social media like facebook.

In recent weeks, our facebook page had a

reach of over 4,000 people! If you are on

facebook, be sure to like our BKCC face-

    book page (www.facebook.com/

    bixbyknollschurch). Visit the page often,

and be sure to click share so that our

    reach can continue to grow!

    Miracle on 43rd

Street is a unique service project

focuses on bringing the best of our gifts, re-

sources and talents as an expression of Gods

love and empowerment to a welcoming commu-

nity. This hands on work is a visible witness to

what it means to be one church!

It takes place June 27-July 1 at United Christian

Church in Los Angeles, a historically African-

American congregation in a mostly Spanish-

speaking neighborhood where 72% of the resi-

dents have never finished high school. It is one

of the most densely crowded neighborhoods in

southern California. The need for a Christian wit-

ness of healing and wholeness is great.

Help is needed to: paint the sanctuary; install

    new flooring in the sanctuary; remove the pews;

    clean and polish the pews; re-install the pews;

    repair and paint drywall; replace light fixtures;

replace lamps; paint the dining hall; clean and

paint the cupboards in the kitchen; mend and

paint the wrought iron fencing; install irrigationand landscaping; re-stripe parking lots and as

with every church facility, theres always window

washing, general cleaning and closets to be or-

    ganized.

In addition, there will be a Youth Experience

held in conjunction with Miracle Week; high

school youth from throughout the United States

will be coming to participate in mission projects

at United Christian Church (in conjunction with

Miracle Week) as well as at other locations in Los

Angeles. Evenings will include worship & a spe-

cial music concert. Pastor Danny is on the plan-

ning team for the youth event, so interested

    youth should talk with him.

PICNIC 2012This years annual picnic was filled with great food (no leftovers), music, singing, laughter and

exercise! Pastor Dannys bingo was a hit as we counted Ken Kobels push-ups, and when Adam

Rugh ran around the tree. There was softball and fun to be had by all. Cant wait for next

    year!
