“Welcome To BKCC”
Dear Church,
Our family dog, Say-
dee, recently spent a
week at my Dad’s house
in Burbank, while we
were out of town. A
few days into the week,
Dad called with concern
in his voice to let us
know that Saydee was-
n’t eating.
Saydee is an incredi-
bly loyal and protective
dog. She gets nervous if
even one family mem-
ber spends the nightaway from home. She
likes to have everyone
all together, with her,
where she knows they
are safe. And even
though she loves going
on daytrips to Rosie’s
Dog Beach or for walks
through the neighbor-
hood, there is no place
she’d rather be than
home with her family.
To spend a week at my
Dad’s house made her
extremely anxious. Dad
did what he could to
calm and relax her, and
eventually she began
eating.
One of the reasons
dogs are considered
“man’s best friend” is
that they reflect back to
us our own emotions.
Anytime we find our-
selves in a new environ-ment, there is a certain
level of anxiety.
This is certainly
something to remember
when we see at worship
an unfamiliar face,
someone who is visiting
for the first time or re-
turning after a long ab-
sence. It really is a
wonderful thing when
members of our congre-
gation greet these folks
and do what they can to
make them feel wel-
comed and relaxed. You
may have noticed that I
often include explana-
tions in worship for some
of the things we do, like
the sharing of joys &
concerns, or instructions
before communion. I try
to repeat these things
every week, to ease the
anxiety of those who
may be visiting and who
are unsure of how we do
things.
But the best way to
make someone feel wel-
come is the one-on-one
greeting they receive
from a member of the
congregation, and for
offering that to our visi-
tors week after week, I
thank you.
Blessings,
Pastor Danny
So this is what I need
from you - the Present
Devotions. To create a
devotion you need to
select a scripture,write a brief devotion
and then a brief
prayer. The devotion
may be your own
thoughts, story or
poem. Or you may use
something that some-
one else wrote. What
ever you create will
I was looking for some-
thing at church and came
across a small box. It
turned out to be a treas-
ure box, it had theLenten devotional book-
lets that members of our
congregation created
1968 - 1999. Being in-
spired I thought we could
create one this year us-
ing some devotions from
the past, present, and
future.
need to fit on half of a
regular 8 x 11 piece of
paper. You may email it
to me or the church of-
fice, turn in a copy to
the office, or hand it to
me at church. Please be
sure to have your first
and last name on it. My
goal is to receive 20. The
final date to turn them
in will be Sunday Febru-
ary 3rd.
I look forward to seeing
the creativity.

JUST A NOTE - Barb Peebles, Music Director
I have a problem that
needs your help!! Been
praying about this for
awhile and thought I
would share with every-
one.
Yes there is definitely a
problem with the pews in
the sanctuary. I guess
you could call it a “Pew
Problem” (not to be con-
fused with a PHEW!
Problem, as in that was
close!)
The problem is basic.
Every Sunday I sit at the
piano or organ bench toplay and then sit back
during the scripture and
sermon. Only after the
choir sings do I usually
have time to peek at the
c o n g r e g a t i o n… . o n l y
there are lots of empty
pews! I see the Sykes
and Eleanor and whoever
is running the screen and
that’s about it! The leftside is “Lonely”!
Pastor Danny tells me
you are all sitting in front
of him and it’s ok. How-
ever…...over Christmas I
couldn’t mention it as
most of you were on the
Chancel singing, playing,
acting, reading or ringing.
There is a simple solu-
tion to this problem.
NO! don’t bulldoze the
kids into sitting on the
left side and
*The Advent Orchestra
is over so it’s
“Quieter”! over there
*Boy Scout Sunday is
coming in 2 weeks so
that’s a special
day… . . but af t er
that…..well……..
INVITE SOMEONE TO
CHURCH! We have a
super Pastor with a
great message, decentmusic stuff, great fel-
lowship hour, FREE
childcare and REALLY
FRIENDLY people! It is
said that if you ask
someone something 3
times by the 3rd time
they will say yes!
So….start now asking
someone once a week
and in 3 weeks weshould have a few new
faces! Neighbors,
friends, Doctors or
nurses you visit, gro-
cery baggers and cash-
iers…..the people you
see every week in your
life. You might be the
someone once a week
and in 3 weeks we
should have a few new
faces! Neighbors,
friends, doctors or
nurses you visit, grocery
baggers and cash-iers…..the people you
see every week in your
life. You might be the
answer to their unseen
need to belong! Re-
member the story of
the Girl Scout that IBM
used inter- nationally
that if you don’t ask you
will never know if they
would say yes! (She sold
gazillions of cookies!)
Be an asker and see
what a difference it will
make! So lets work on
the “Pew Problem” to-
gether and see what a
difference we can
make!
Oh and don’t forget the
