and even (rather disturbingly), beggars.

Ajay Devgn has got some really funny En-

glish dialogues in Bol Bachchan. He plays

Prithviraj, a wrestler who is obsessed with

the English language, even though he

doesn't know much about it. Here are a few

samples: Pest Control Yourself (Please Con-

trol Yourself); My chest has become blouse

(Meri chaati aur bhi chaudi ho gayi hai);

When elders get cozy, don't put your nosey

(Jab bade baat kar rahe hai, bachche beech

mein bola nahin karte); Thanks for the

complan boy (Thanks for the compliment).

A mind-juggling medley of manipulation mas-

querading as a 'mother of a story', Kahaani

is one of those rare films that can easily lay

claim to being a game-changer. A 'pregnant'

Vidya Balan excels once again delivering a

performance that's at par with her former

accomplishments. The film can be watched

purely for the story, for the beautiful Kolkata

which comes alive on screen.


The Punjabi munda composed and lent

his voice to Paani da in Vicky Donor

and created the desired ripples in

Bollywood. But will his singing prowess

overshadow his acting skills?

Ayushmann Khurrana never knew that

his musical talents would be appreciated

so much in B-town that his song Paani da,

one that he composed during his college

days, would be nominated for the Global

Indian Music Awards (GIMA). But it was!

And thanks to this, AK will have two more

songs to his credit in Rohan Sippy's

Nautanki Saala. "Ayushmann is not a regu-

lar singer and hence there is a novelty in

his voice," producer Bhushan Kumar of

NS said.

So do we gear up again for another

mellow Punjabi track? Well, yes to 'Punjabi'

but no to 'mellow'. 'Coz one of the two

numbers is slated to be a sad song. And

perhaps that's the reason why the mak-

ers thought that Ayush's 'novel' voice

would add the desired texture to it.

But if that tempts you to believe that

Khurrana wants to be taken seriously as

a singer, then you are mistaken. "I believe

I am an actor who sings and not a singer

who acts. I will not allow my singing talent

to overpower my act-

ing, as I always

wanted to be an

actor," he said in

an interview.

Sunny Leone, who created a lot of stir with

her debut in Jism 2, has signed a 3 film

deal with Alumbra Entertainment (the makers

of Bhoot Returns). Sunny will film the first

among the films in the second quarter of 2013

and the rest of them will be shot later, one

after the other and released after Sunny's

second film Ragini MMS 2.

MUMBAI: Legendary filmmaker, Yash

Chopra, also known as the 'King of Ro-

mance', succumbed to dengue and mul-

tiple organ failure on October 21. A large

number of Bollywood personalities at-

tended his cremation.

The thespian had turned 80 on Sep-

tember 27 this year and was busy pre-

paring for the release of his last directo-

rial venture 'Jab Tak Hai Jaan' starring

Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and

Anushka Sharma.

The filmmaker's body, covered with

white flowers had been kept on stage num-

ber 3 of the Yash Raj Films studio for people

to come and pay homage. A huge black and

white photo of the director was also there

with several candles lit around it.

Son Aditya, Uday and actress Rani

Mukerji were seen standing in front of

the stage with moist eyes, while the fam-

ily members and those from film frater-

nity were seen sitting behind.

A string of celebrities were seen en-

tering the studio from both the front and

back gates, guarded by policemen and

security personnel owing to the large

number of fans that had gathered out-

side.

That Rani Mukerji has been spending qual-

Speaking fluent English is not only

a big deal for a Maharashtrian

housewife as shown in Gauri Shinde's

English Vinglish. The film's message of

overcoming a l inguistic barrier has

gripped Bihar's college-going Dalit girls

who are rooting for Sridevi in English Vinglish

in the way cricket lovers cheered Aamir Khan

in Lagaan.

Girls en masse from various colleges in

Patna and neighbouring towns of Bihar have

watched the film and are motivated into im-

proving their spoken English.

Delighted by the turn of events, English

Vinglish producer R Balki said, "That our film

has influenced a section of the audience to

improve its language is awesome. English

Vinglish is not just about learning English. It's

about the determination that the lack of a fa-

miliarity will not stop people's aspirations and

dreams from growing."

Kajal Agarwal is cementing her posi-

tion in Bollywood. On the Bollywood

front, grapevine has it that the actor has

given feelers to makers that she wishes

to be cast opposite the young brigade

(read Imran Khan and Ranbir Kapoor).

Recently, there was news that Kajal

turned down a film opposite Govinda,

understandably a has-been.

Rubbishing these reports she says, "I

turned down the film with Govinda sim-

ply because I have too much to handle.

And I didn't have any dates to commit to

them. I think it's really stupid to suggest

that I want to act with younger actors

because I started with Ajay Devgn and

now I am doing a film with Akshay

Kumar".

If her fans are looking for a

glamourised Kajal in B-town, they may

have to wait. She is playing yet another

simpleton in Neeraj Pandey's film. "I am

playing a school teacher in the film. It is

very 80s style and she is a very simple

girl. And my character is not so bubbly

like in Singham, it is more mature," she

adds.

Nene. The man to have stood by former

superstar Madhuri Dixit since 1985,

where she was based since 1999 af-

ter marrying Dr Nene, was her man-

ager Rakeshnath.

After 27 years of what Rikku, as

Yes Boss, Ishq and Diwana Mastana.

merous TV shows. She has been a judge for the

show Jhalak dikhla jaa-III along with Saroj Khan

Juhi has the vibe of an able administrator. She

turned producer and co-owner of a company called

Dreamz Unlimited partnered with Shahrukh Khan and

her husband Jai Mehta. This company produced three

films, namely Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Ashoka and

Chalte Chalte. She is also the co-owner of IPL'S

Jab Tak Hai Jaan truly carries the Yash Chopra stamp! Picturesque

locales, intense poetry, enviable costumes, Shah Rukh Khan's dimpled

cheeks, his passionate lover avatar, teamed with Katrina Kaif's flawless

beauty, and Anushka Sharma's effervescence.

Shah Rukh plays an Army man named Samar. He looks dapper as usual,

It is after Sarfarosh (1999) that Aamir gets

to don the khaki again and looks like he isn't

playing the goody-two-shoes cop this time.

Complete with a roguish stubble, Aamir takes

on the bad guys as a Crime Branch officer in

Reema Kagti's film.

Son Of Sardar is the story of two war-

ring Sardar families and it is a remake of

the Telugu movie Maryada Ramanna

which in itself is a remake of the 1923

American silent movie Our Hospitality.

Directed by Ashwni Dhir, Son of

Sardar features Ajay Devgn, Juhi

Chawla, Sanjay Dutt and

Sonakshi Sinha in the lead

roles. Himesh Reshammiya

has composed the music

along with the famous lyri-

cist Sameer Anjaan.

The story revolves

around the factional feud be-

tween the two families. Heads

of the two families die in a re-

venge clash.

The wife of one takes away her

son to a different city and brings him

up there. After 28 years, the son returns

to the village to sell away his five-acre land.

During his journey to the village, he comes

across a girl and they become good friends.

The girl invites him to her home where it

is discovered he is the son of the other feud-

ing family. The other family follows a tradition

not to shed blood in their house, so the family

head and his two sons await an opportunity

for the boy to step out of the house.

However, the boy comes to know that they

are planning to kill him. What kind of tricks he

plays forms the interesting part of the movie.


Ajay Devgn had requested Salman Khan to do

an item number in the film, and the latter readily

complied despite the tight shooting schedule for

his TV show Bigg Boss 6 and his upcoming film

Dabanng 2.

The trio along with the other people report-

edly had an amazing time on the sets. A source

on the sets, said, "It took four days for the ac-

tors to shoot the song. Since it's a peppy and a

fun-filled number, everyone on the sets enjoyed

shooting it."

The item song 'Po Po' has catchy tunes. It is a

boisterous and zestful 'Bhangra' dance number

that sees Salman shake a leg with Ajay, Sanjay

Dutt and Sonakshi Sinha.

The vivacious, loud and extremely vibrant song is choreo-

graphed by Ganesh Acharya. Shot in village setup with colorful

vintage cars seen in the backdrop, the title of the song highlights

the sound of a car horn.

Po Po is composed and sung by Himesh Reshammiya with

additional vocals by Vikas Bhalla and Aman Trikha.

Kajol is spreading the good word about her husband's film.

She says, "I haven't seen the (complete) film, but I have seen bits

of it. It is looking fabulous. The trailer is good, but the film is even

better," the 37-year-old said.

Ajay has had a spate of successful films recently - be it the

"Golmaal" series, "Singham" or "Bol Bachchan", and with "Son Of

Sardar", he is only expected to take it to the next level.

Aiyyaa is a desi film at heart. Also, quirky and funny. What makes this film

stand apart is that it does away with the crutches of big stars [except

Rani], forced humour, unnecessary songs, international locales or grandiose

sets. Its strength lies in its cohesive script and able performances.

It is Sachin Kundalkar's first Hindi film on the back of

three critically applauded Marathi-language fea-

tures. He revels in flying against expectations

with complete abandon.

Aiyyaa is what it is for Rani's livewire

act. A complete natural, Rani glides through

her part with brilliance. An accomplished ac-

tor, who can handle the comic sequences with

as much flourish as the emotional ones, Rani is

absolutely ravishing. Prithviraj, who has several South

watch. A film that describes the trials of being a non-English

speaker in an increasingly English world. The movie won-

derfully narrates a tale of a typical Indian housewife who

manages to win back her self-respect by redefining her

own boundaries.


ishwarya Rai Bachchan (born No-

vember 1, 1973 and sometimes

known simply as Ash or Gullu) is a clas-

sical beauty and a much sought after ac-

tress. Before starting her acting career, she

worked as a model and gained fame after

winning the Miss World title in 1994.

Aishwarya was born in Mangalore to

Krishnaraj Rai and Vrinda Rai. She has one

elder brother, Aditya Rai, who is an engi-

neer in the merchant navy and has also

co-produced one of Rai's movies, Dil Ka

Rishta (2003). At an early age her parents

moved to Mumbai where she attended

school and college.

She can communicate in several lan-

guages, including her mother tongue Tulu,

as well as Hindi, English, Marathi and Tamil.

She started studying architecture but gave

up her education to pursue a career in

modelling. While pursuing her studies, she

began modelling on the side. In the 1994

Miss India contest, she won the second

place behind Sushmita Sen, and was

crowned Miss India World. She went on to

win the Miss World title the same year,

where she also won the Miss Photogenic

award. She abandoned her academic edu-

cation after winning the pageant and spent

one year reigning as Miss World in Lon-

don. Aishwarya then started working

as a professional model and then

moved on to her current profes-

sion as an actress.

Aishwarya is married to actor

Abhishek Bachchan. The mar-

riage took place on 20 April 2007

according to traditional Hindu rites

of the South Indian Bunt commu-

nity, to which she belongs. Token

North Indian and Bengali ceremonies

were also performed. They have

been cited as a super couple in the

Indian media. Aishwarya has been very

close to her family and lived with them in

Bandra, Mumbai until her marriage.

Deepika Padukone opens up about her affair with Ranbir Kapoor and how hewill always hold a special place in her life. Excerpts from the interview:

What was the reason for your break-up withRanbir?

Sometimes two people are just not meant to be. It was

a serious relationship and a public one. We will always

be very special to each other and I know we influenced

each other's lives.

Did the break up affect you?Obviously, when it happened, it hurt me for a very

long time but as you mature, you realize that everything

that happens, is for the good. I have opened up a lot as a

person as a result. It gave me a lot of confidence that I

did not have earlier. I became a friendlier and more social

person. I was always an emotional and sensitive per-

son, but my years with Ranbir made me learn a lot about

life, relationships and people.

Is it possible to remain friends after beinglovers?

After the way we broke up, we need not have

remained friends, but if we are friends today, that's

because of me and I will take the credit for that. I was

angry and upset for a long time and felt betrayed. But

we had spent two years of our lives together and I

value him as a person and his friendship. Also, I can't

hold grudges or deal with awkward situations.

You and Ranbir are working together in AyanMukerji's next film. Does it feel awkward to

work with your ex-lover?People around us are comfortable and are

not awkward, and that comes from us. Had

we been weird with each other, people

around us would have felt awkward. Ayan

has seen us through our best and worst part

of our relationship. In fact, when our break-up

happened, I even cut myself off from Ayan since

he was close to Ranbir. Ayan could have gone with

anyone else for his film, but he saw our comfort and

realised that genuinely we had both moved on in our

lives.

You are a single girl and live alone in Mumbai.Do you feel lonely at times?

All the time, and in fact, I have never felt it more as I

have felt in the last two-three weeks as I have been

working non-stop. I have a house to run and have to do

every thing single-handedly. I am not complaining as this

is the life I chose for myself and knew that my family

could not move with me to Mumbai. But there are days

when you wish your family was there to just take care

of things not only physically, but also emotionally.

There are times when I am tired and drained

and come back home but there is no one to

talk to or to express yourself to.

When Hrithik playedagony uncleAnything for friends seems to

When designer Surily Goel wanted

Karan Mehra is confident of many such mile-

stones.

"As we keep moving forward, we will

keep getting these mementoes and we'll

soon meet you on 2000," Karan, who plays

Naitik in the serial, said.

miered Jan 12, 2009 on Star Plus with

Hina Khan as the female protagonist

to play the role of Lovely.

shoes of Rageeni, the

original protagonist of

seen in Maryaada - Lekin

tacted, Vindhya said, "I

have seen the show in

Mahadev recreates magicon banks of GangaDevon ke Dev Mahadev, the mythological epic

on Life OK, has captured the imagination

of the nation and the show enters a new phase

with the birth of Lord Shiva and Parvati's son,

Kartikeya.

The show has magnificently depicted the

journey of Mahadev touching upon Lord Shiva's

essence and ideals of honesty, integrity and

family values. As Mahadev moves on with this

married life, the next big occasion is the birth of

his son, Kartikeya, who emerged out of the

Holy River Ganga. A record of sorts was cre-

ated as for the first time in the history of Indian

television, a real life mythological sequence

was symbolically recreated on the banks of

Ganga, in Varanasi.

The show on the auto is one of the most

eagerly awaited shows on TV. Auto shows

are usually very well attended, and there are a

number of people who want to attend it, but are

not able to. For such viewers, Aaj Tak gave a

detailed low-down on everything about the cars

and motorbikes.

The programme has a very young and dynamic

feel to it, with all the updates on the latest in the

automobile world. The anchor takes the viewer

through the analysis of various cars and bikes.

The format of the show is a walk-through type,

with the anchor taking the viewers inside cars,

giving an idea of the boot space, pointing out ac-

cessories, giving details of engine parts etc. and

providing wholesome information about the auto-

mobile.

It is an in depth analysis of the

biggest story of the day not

necessarily politically governed. The topic put sim-

ply is something that concerns the world we live in.

Taking the story from the top the program ex-

amines all the factors that affect the story and the

circumstances that govern it.

The story brings to the studio the news mak-

ers of the day to battle it out in front of live televi-

sion cameras… they tussle it to the bottom of the

barrel in the process uncovering the truth layer

by layer.

JALANDHAR/CHANDIGARH: Noted comedian and filmmaker

Jaspal Bhatti, 57, died in a road accident near Shahkot in

the early hours on October 25. Bhatti along with h i s

son Jasraj who was on the wheel, and two oth-

ers was coming to Jalandhar from Bathinda for

the promotion of his new film 'Power Cut' when the

car hit a tree on the roadside.

Bhatti was sitting in the rear seat of the car and

received serious head injuries. The injured - son

Jasraj, film heroine Surilie Gautam and Bhatti's media advi-

sor Navneet - were rushed to hospital.

ing entries for Laughter

Da Master Auditions be-

ing held across

Amritsar, Jalandhar, Bathinda and

Chandigarh through air promotions on PTC

Network Channels, dedicated IVR and reg-

istration forms kept in various acting schools

and talent academies.

All entries received will be screened for

comic timing, stage confidence and content

hilarity by an esteemed panel of judges, on

the basis of their performance in challeng-

ing stand up acts.

The successful candidates will be called

for a Mega Audition in Chandigarh. After an

extensive Audition exercise, selected con-

MUMBAI: Bollywood star couple Saif Ali

Khan and Kareena Kapoor on October 16 tied

the knot here in a quiet affair after a five-year

courtship.

Saif, 42, son of late Nawab of Pataudi and

former Indian cricket captain Mansoor Ali Khan

Pataudi and actress Sharmila Tagore, sealed

his relationship with Kareena, 32, at his resi-

dence in suburban Bandra through a regis-

tered marriage.

"It was a registered marriage with three

witnesses - Kareena's father Randhir Kapoor,

her mother Babita and Saif's mother Sharmila,"

marriage Registrar Surekha Ramesh told PTI.

The couple who started dating in 2007,

married in the presence of close friends and

family.

Kareena Kapoor turned heads at her wed-

ding party. She looking stunning in a green

salwar-kurta with a heavy embellished red

dupatta wrapped around her. She teamed it

up with minimal jewelry, red bangles and left

her hair open.

She was seen greeting the guests that in-

cluded actors Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta

and Anil Kapoor who came with daughter

Sonam.

Bebo's cousin, actor Ranbir Kapoor, who

missed the pre-wedding functions, attended

this one. Interestingly, the wedding was also

attended by Amitabh Bachchan's daughter

Shweta whose husband is Kareena's cousin,

despite the relations between them being

strained since the engagement between

Shweta's brother, Abhishek, and Kareena's

sister, Karisma, broke off years ago.

Randhir and his elder daughter Karisma later

waved to the waiting fans and media from the

balcony of the house.

Even as the registration of Saif and

Kareena's marriage took place, Shahid Kapoor

was attending a product launch in the city.

Sources say that when he was asked about

Kareena's wedding, he got emotional and even

teared up a little.

Saif, simply dressed in a grey kurta and

white pajamas, came out with his new wife to

greet fans from his balcony.

Saif has two children - son Ibrahim and

daughter Sara - from his previous marriage to

actress Amrita Singh. Kareena was in a rela-

tionship with Shahid Kapoor earlier.

Saif and Kareena featured together for the

first time in the 2008 movie 'Tashan', followed

by 'Kurbaan'.

INGREDIENTS

• Cashewnuts 3 cups

• Powdered sugar 10 table-

spoons

• Cornflour/ corn starch 1

teaspoon

• Rose essence 1/3 teaspoon

• Silver warq, for decoration as re-

quired

METHOD

Soak cashew

nuts in five

cups of

water for

an hour or

two. Drain

and grind

them to a fine

paste on a

grinding stone,

using as little wa-

ter as possible. Mix

together sugar and

cashewnut paste. Cook in a

deep pan on medium heat. When the mixture

begins to thicken, reduce heat and keep stirring.

When the mixture becomes thick and leaves the sides of the pan (it

should take about eight minutes) sprinkle cornstarch. Stir well and remove

from heat. Immediately mix in the rose essence and quickly turn onto a greased

marble or wooden surface. Quickly roll thinly with a greased roller. Spread the

silver sheet over and cut into diamond shaped katlis.

Store in an airtight container when cold.

INGREDIENTS

• Cottage cheese (paneer) 150 grams

• Tomatoes 3 medium

• Cashewnuts 1/4 cup

• Melon seeds (magaz) 2 tablespoons

• Poppy seeds (khuskhus/posto)

1 teaspoon

• Ginger, chopped 1 teaspoon

• Green cardamoms 2

• Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

• Salt to taste

• Oil 1 tablespoon +

for deep-frying

• Yogurt 1/4 cup

• Green cardamom

powder 1/4 teaspoon

• Refined flour (maida)

2 teaspoons

• Fresh cream 2

tablespoons

• Garam masala powder

1/4 teaspoon

METHOD

Heat a pressure cooker.

Roughly chop tomatoes and put into

the cooker along with cashewnuts, melon seeds, poppy seeds, ginger,

green cardamoms, red chilli powder, salt and 1 tbsp oil and mix well. Add

yogurt and mix well. Add 1 cup water and close the cooker with the lid.

Cook under pressure till 4 whistles. Heat sufficient oil in a kadai. Grate

cottage cheese into a bowl. Add green cardamom powder, salt, flour and

mix well. Take small portions and shape into koftas. Deep fry these koftas till

golden. Drain and place on tissue paper. Once the pressure reduces, open

the lid of the cooker and blend the mixture with a hand blender. Strain the

mixture and pour into another non-

stick pan and heat. Add a little

cream and garam masala

powder and mix. Ar-

range the koftas in a

serving bowl,

pour the gravy

over, drizzle a

litt le cream

and serve

immediately.

Shahrukh Khan claims he developed his six-pack

abs in just three months at the age of 42 through

diet and exercise. He followed a high-protein, low-

fat, low-carb diet combined with a weight-training regi-

men, which involved hitting the gym four days a week. He

drinks eight to 10 glasses of water every day because

staying hydrated is "extremely important."

Shahrukh's diet is very strict. He avoids all breads and

rice, as well as high-fat foods made with ghee - clarified

butter. Lean meats, chicken, turkey, egg whites, paneer -

a type of farmer's cheese - fish and skim milk are al-

lowed. All simple carbohydrates, including refined grains

and anything with added sugars should be avoided. High-

fiber complex carbohydrates such as vegetables, legumes

and whole grains are acceptable. Khan recommends

eating a piece of fruit if you have a craving for something

sweet and drinking between two and three liters of wa-

ter each day. He also suggests a protein drink after

every workout.

EXERCISE

Khan believes it's important to allow muscles time to

recover and suggests that you only lift weights and train

your abdominal muscles four times a week - resting one

day in between strength training. However, you need to

sweat - cardio will help you lose body fat to reveal your

six-pack abs. The Bollywood actor also says that if you

slip up on the diet, doing 50 minutes of cardio will get

your body back on track. Try 30 to 60 minutes of run-

ning, jogging, cycling or aerobics every day.

OTHER TIPS

Avoid alcoholic beverages and try to eat grilled, rather

than fried food. Avoid snacking in between meals.

Gorgeous Natadola Beach is Viti Levu's best. Its vast bank of

white sand slides into a cobalt sea, providing good swimming

regardless of the tide level. If you want to snorkel, surf or

windsurf, take your own gear. Natadola's strong currents often defy

the brochures so instead of glassy, still conditions you may find suffi-

cient churn for good body surfing. Take care; the varying conditions

and undertow have caught out even experienced surf swimmers and

readers have reported injuries. For nonswimmers Natadola is an ut-

terly photogenic spot to zone out but watch your valuables as there

have been reports of theft.

Local villagers offer horse riding along the beach and sell green

coconuts for drinking, and necklaces; unfortunately

they can be pretty pushy.
