detractors will not be able to hold their

laughter.

The characterizations are supremely

amusing - be it the broken English-speak-

ing Prithviraj, or the gay-dancer Abbas. All

the obfuscation going on in the film leads

to many situations where the viewers

laugh out loud.

Rowdy Rathore is a 2012 In

dian action film directed by

Prabhu Deva and produced by

Rajat Rawail, Sanjay Leela

Bhansali and Ronnie Screwvala. It

features Akshay Kumar in double role op-

posite Sonakshi Sinha. It marks the return of

Akshay Kumar in the action genre after seven

years.

Rowdy Rathore revolves around a

thief Shiva who falls in love with

a young woman named

Paro and later

found a responsibility to take care for his deceased

look-alike ACP Vikram Rathore's daughter while seek-

ing revenge from the main antagonist Baapji. It be-

came a major commercial success with a world-

wide gross of 201 crore (US$36.58 million).


Ranveer Singh is known to wear his

heart on his sleeves. And the bois

terous actor, who has been making

grandiose statements of love for the rela-

tively quieter Deepika, grabbed yet another

opportunity to show how much he really

cares for her. Deepika was in Dubai for her

upcoming film, when Ranveer joined her

for some hectic socialising and romantic

dancing.

Sources say the couple spent a large

part of January 16 shopping, before taking

a break to prepare for their evening date.

They met again at a tony nightclub close to

midnight. When Deepika walked in, dressed

in a LBD, she was greeted by Ranveer and

a bunch of his close friends from college -

husband and wife Deepak and Khushalani,

Girish and Dilip.

According to an eye-witness, Ranveer

Ranveer requested Deepika to join him on

the dance floor, and she obliged. The two

danced closely for the next hour, say eye

witnesses, adding that they only paused

to withdraw to a quiet corner for a chat

and a quick peck on the cheek now and

then.

Salman Khan has sportingly admitted that his health condition

does not allow him to perform daredevil stunts. While for

Dabangg 2, Arbaaz Khan had already arranged for a body

Khan, Salman has already taken a call to trans-

form the action-hero to a romantic one. The film

is being redesigned as a passionate love story

with the action kept to the minimum.

A source close to the project says,

"Salman's character of the do-gooder Robin

Hood-meets-Superman needs modification.

Sher Khan would now be an out-and-out love

story with Salman romancing two stunning

beauties."

In fact, while Angela Jonsson will play one

of Salman's love interests, the other heroine is

yet to be finalised. "Sohail is on the look-out for a

pinup girl preferably from the modelling world

who would look like a million bucks

and also be able to do some

stunts," added the source.

saw the stars show off their emo

tional side

The Filmfare awards night this year was

a feel-good affair with hosts Shah Rukh

Khan and Saif Ali Khan steering clear from

their politically incorrect banter. That did not

mean that the show lost out on any of its

sparkle. While SRK was in his best form

after a long time, it was Saif's one-liners

that had the audience in splits.

Love was in the air, on the faces of the

ladies - Vidya Balan was aglow in the early

rush of marriage, while this season's most

keenly followed 'couple'

After two shelved films with Abhay

Deol, director Navdeep Singh (of

Manorama Six Feet Under) seems

to have finally found a script that can be

directed.

Navdeep's new project is about a fe-

male detective who is out to solve a mur-

der mystery. Navdeep has firmed in on

Freida Pinto to star in the film. She has

shown a keen interest. However,

there's one problem.

A source said, "Freida met Navdeep and

Vikramaditya Motwane who was to produce

the film starring her as a detective. She liked

the script. But she had one pre-condition be-

fore signing the film. She wants Vikram

Motwane to direct the project while Navdeep,

thinks Freida, could be on board as a writer."

Freida's pre-condition has frozen the project

in its tracks.

n the face of the recent Police upgrading their

watchfulness and re-evaluating their crime

battling techniques, it is learnt that Shah Rukh

Khan has been stripped of his police cover. This

comes post a review by authorities concluding that

he no longer faces any threat.

Eight constables from the Mumbai police's Pro-

tection and Security Branch used to guard him in

two shifts after the Indian Mujahideen sent an email

to news channels, threatening attacks on him and

three other celebrities in 2008.

In 2010 there were intelligence reports of fresh

threats against Khan which led the authorities to

maintain the cover. While last year, Deputy Police

Commissioner Pratap Dighavkar submitted a report

to the then police Chief Arup Patnaik, warning of

threats from the Lashkar-e-Taiba to Khan and his

son Aryan.

Months after the

report, the Protection

and Security Branch

carried out an audit,

and decided to with-

draw the cover. How-

ever, the police stated

that Khan's cover has

been negated since no

reports suggest a

has set a new record by sign-

ing a Rs.500 crore deal with

Star TV Network India for the

television broadcast rights of his up-

coming films.

Post 2009 blockbuster "Wanted", the

47-year-old's career is going from

strength to strength. In the last five years,

he has churned out a string of success-

ful films -

"Ready", "Dabangg", "Bodyguard", "Ek

Tha Tiger" and "Dabangg 2" - all earning

over Rs.100 crore at the box office.

Hemal Jhaveri, general manager at Star

Gold, admitted, "Yes, we have signed a

deal with Salman Khan and whoever asks

me why Salman, I would only say why

not Salman Khan? His past box office

record has been outstanding and his film,

which has been premiered on TV, is ex-

ceptional."

"He still has the highest record for his

film 'Bodyguard' which had the highest rat-

ing so far," he added.

According to the deal, the channel

would own exclusive TV broadcast rights

of Salman's all new films.

"The deal is from 2013 onwards where

all his films in which he acts, produces or

be part of, we will have the broadcast

rights exclusively with us," said Jhaveri.

strong performance in Gangs of

gather from a source from her latest film Race

2 that her voice had to be dubbed by a profes-

sional dubbing artiste.

Says the source, "Since all the other mem-

bers of the cast spoke their own lines, direc-

tors Abbas-Mastan were keen that Jacqueline

do the same. Every effort was made to make

her speak her lines. But finally it didn't work."

Apparently Jacqueline has a lot of seduc-

tive come-hither lines to throw at Saif Ali Khan.

Abhishek Srivastav aka

Abhishek Bachchan is the

son of Bollywood mega-

stars, Jaya Bhaduri and Amitabh

Bachchan. He was born in Mumbai

on February 5, 1976. He is the

grandson of Harivansh Rai

Srivastav (the poet who wrote un-

der the pen-name of Harivansh Rai

Bachchan) and has a sister Shweta

Nanda.

He did his schooling in Jamnabai

Narsee School and Bombay Scot-

tish School, both in Bombay; as well

as Modern School in Vasant Vihar

in Delhi. After which he went for

further his studies in Aiglon Col-

lege, Switzerland. He also stud-

ied Business in the United States,

but changed his mind and decided

to try his luck in Bollywood.

Starting in 2000 with 'Refugee',

he went on to star in many other

away from Abhishek at first. But his

career graph began improving and

critics starting appreciating him for

his roles in 'Yuva', Bunty Aur Babli',

'Sarkar', and 'Kabhi Alvida Na

Kahena' for which he has won a

total of six awards.

Karishma Kapoor, but the engage-

ment broke. Then he met Aishwarya

Rai, his co-star in several movies,

and they got married on April 20,

2007 in Juhu, Bombay. Rai gave birth

to a baby girl on 16 November 2011.

CHITRANGADA SINGH speaks oncommercial cinema, competition and lifeas working mother in this interview. Excerpts:You took a break from your serious image with Desi Boyz

It is not very easy to do commercial cinema; you play up to the masses,

you have to dramatize and still not look stupid. And then, you don't plan

things, it just happens. People see you in a certain way. For instance, Farah

(Khan) felt I could do an item number, which I didn't know.

Perception is that you are a thinking actress...Yes. I love those roles as they have defined me. But I would like to thank

Rohit Dhawan (director of Desi Boyz) and Farah for bringing out something

different, which is not predictable. It gets boring when you get predictable.

How are you dealing with competition?Competition does make you anxious, but I am

not so much playing the competition. I choose cer-

tain kind of work and there is enough work for

everyone. Everybody gets what they deserve.

No amount of young, old, married, single,

somebody's brother, sister matters. Enough work

is coming my way and I don't know if I can man-

age more than that.

Do you have enough heroes to work withyou? Which Khan would you like to workwith?

All of them, put them all up.

Isn't it hard being a mother and wife whilebeing an actor?

I travel a lot and it is not easy all the time. But it

is also not that hard when I look around. I don't

need to show up at 9 am everyday at an of-

fice. I take on as much work as I can manage.

Bhatt's son Vishesh as a director with

"Murder 3” that stars Randeep Hooda,

Aditi Rao Hydari and Sara Loren of Paki-

stan.

Murder 3 is the sequel to the 2011

film, Murder 2. This is the third instalment

in the Murder series and is an official

Bollywood remake of the Spanish thriller

The Hidden Face.

The movie starts with a hot-shot fash-

ion and wildlife photographer Vikram

(Randeep Hooda) getting into a relation-

ship with a waitress from a lounge, Nisha

(Sara Loren). She moves in with him in

his palatial house outside of the city. The

old world house, made decades ago is

as beautiful as it is scary.

It holds many secrets which Nisha is

soon to unearth; of the life of the man

who made it and of Vikram, who is deal-

ing with the mysterious disappearance

of his former girlfriend Roshni (Aditi Rao

Hydari).The former lover haunts the

couple.

Vishesh's uncle Mahesh Bhatt avers, "Mur-

der 3 is the 2013 equivalent of the controver-

sial Arth in the thriller genre which was

released in 1983. Then it was the institu-

tion of marriage that was deconstructed and

30 years later, Murder 3 deconstructs love

and questions its very existence in today's

world of relationship crimes.

Adds Vishesh, "Murder 3 shows the

woman of today - The tagline, 'This Valentine's

Love Will be Murdered' is exactly what you

can expect from the film, it's unconventional,

it's shocking, it questions your beliefs."

AcrimonyMeanwhile, reports suggest that Aditi Rao

Hydari doesn't get along with Sara Loren. Their

acrimony came to the fore during a recent photo

shoot.

"The two have had only one scene together.

Couple of days ago, we arranged a promo-

tional photo shoot with them and it was quite

evident that they could not stand each

other. Incidentally, they did not have any

formal interaction," said a unit member.

Sources said it was Aditi who pre-

ferred not to speak to Sara. And her act

apparently did not go down well with the

Pakistani actress.

"Sara was upset with the entire epi-

sode. When we organised the first promo

look of the film, Sara walked in late and she

did not want to mingle with Aditi," added the

source.

Emraan Hashmi and Shriya Saran. There-

after he rendered 'Jo Tere Sang', 'Gunaah'

and 'Teri Yaadon Mein' from the recent

Vishal Mahadkar-directed Blood Money.

He has sung 'Hum Jee Lenge.'

Veterans Pankaj & Shabanasteal the limelight

MATRU KI BIJLEEKA MANDOLA

Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola is a satire that uses a Shakespearean

whiff and shades of Red politics to make a caustic comment

beneath its catchy, mouthful of a title. If comedy mixed with ro-

mance has become a Bollywood staple to ensure box-office kill,

Vishal uses the formula to add layers to what starts off as a decep-

tively simple tale.

Imran Khan's rustic Haryanvi turn evokes a few hiccups when

he tries out the Jatt accent, but the guy admirably moulds himself

into what is surely the best role to have come his way yet.

Matru's Bijlee, Anushka Sharma, does a better job though, when

it comes to getting into the skin of character. She seems to be

getting into a comfort zone playing these bubbly feisty types film

after film. The killer acts, though, come from the veterans. This is

Pankaj Kapur's film, no doubt. As Harry

Mandola, millionaire with a dual personality,

Pankaj flaunts versatile abundance. What-

ever little screen space is left is hogged by

Shabana Azmi, Hindi

cinema's most accom-

plished actor right

now, despite re-

stricted footage as a

ruthless politician.

INKAARHeat & dust from workplace lust

Featuring advertising hot-shots Rahul (Arjun Rampal) and Maya

(Chitrangda Singh), Inkaar shows the heat and dust from work-

place lust The story's runtime is primarily based on fact that a

handsome man and a beautiful woman working together simply

must consummate their physical perfections, even though there is

no romantic allure or texture to their equation in the least.

Barring a few glances that Maya gives Rahul at work that seem

to indicate some sort of romantic interest, but are confusing never-

theless, there is little to base a story of attraction on in the script, let

alone drive an entire film. So, predictably, Rahul and Maya bite the

forbidden apple, breaking the Boss-Colleague equation and even

have the proverbial 'regret conversation' the morning after. It's quite

clinical, devoid of love ballads and the roses and champagne rou-

tine - a criminal waste of a beautiful on-screen pair.

You have to wait right till the end of the film to fathom any kind of

a love affair between these two and even then, you are puzzled

with the revelations. Human emotions of jealousy and insecurity

permeate their lives.

Shahid was born on 25th

February1981. His parents divorced

when he was only four and Shahid

lived with his mom and maternal

grandparents at Junagarh

(Gujarat). He shared a cordial rela-

tionship with his dad and step

mother Supriya Pathak - a talented

actor herself. Shahid studied in

Rajhans Vidyalaya, Mumbai. His

great grandfather was K.A.

Abbas - noted novelist, journalist

and famous script writer for

films,

Before starting acting, Shahid

worked in several music videos

and commercials including the

popular Pepsi commercial with

Shahrukh, Kajol and Rani Mukherji

in 1998. Later he joined Shiamak

Davar Institute of Performing Arts

and was seen as a background

dancer for the song "Kahin aag

lagey lag jaave" in Subhash

Ghai's Taal-1999.

In 2003, he played a leading role

as a carefree youth in Isshq-Vishk

opposite Amrita Rao. The film was

well received by audiences and

Shahid's performance earned him

Filmfare's best male debut award.

Next came Fida-2004 where he

starred with Kareena and Fardeen

Khan. Although the film flopped,

Shahid's acting was praised a lot. Shahid

Soha Ali Khan and Ayesha Takia. He featured in three more films in

ate success at box office. But Vivah, co-starring Amrita Rao became

one of the highest grossing films of the year as well as Shahid's

biggest success to date. This film also earned him the second

consecutive nomination for best actor at Star

Screen Awards.

Shahid performed as super cool in Ishq-vishk

and showed flashes of brilliance in Fida. But it

is in Vivah that one sees his growth as a tre-

mendous actor. He is exceptional in emotional

sequences. He exhibited the evidence of his

potentials when trusted with well worded

roles. His Fool and Final-2007 got a negative

response but the other one i.e. Jab We Met

opposite Kareena became one of the biggest

hits of the year and Shahid's performance earned

him several nominations for best actor including that

of Filmfare.

His two movies i.e. Dil Bole Haddippa and Chance

Pe Dance failed miserably. In 2009, Kapoor por-

trayed the dual role of twins Charlie and Guddu

in the caper thriller, Kaminey. Directed by Vishal

Bhardwaj, the film was a critical and com-

mercial success and received mostly posi-

tive reviews. Yashraj's Badmash Com-

pany-2010 also opened to

mixed to positive reviews.

Next came Mausam-2011

written and directed by his

dad where Shahid surpasses

all his previous performances in-

cluding Kameeney. Shahid ap-

peared in Kunal Kohli 'sTeri Meri

Kahaani. The film was released in 2012

to mixed to positive reviews

Shahid will feature in Prabhu Deva's

next film, Namak, opposite Sonakshi Sinha,

and another film titled Phata Poster Nikla

Hero opposite Ileana D'Cruz. The film, to

be directed by Rajkumar Santoshi will

release this year.

He met Malaika's mother and her designer

Vikram Phadnis too. However, the highlight of

his day was his meeting with Malaika herself.

Malaika danced with him and spoke to him

at length about all her item numbers and even

spoke about her first meeting with her hus-

band Arbaaz Khan.

Ishant also spoke to Malaika about want-

ing to make a movie with her, to which the

Smita Singh, who opted out of "Hitler Didi" over

differences with the producers, is back on the

show.

"I am glad that I'm back on the show. It's unfortu-

nate that I had left the show, to begin with. I prefer to

let bygones be bygones," Smita said in a statement

Smita went public with her protest against the

show's producer Ila Bedi's late clearance of her dues.

She had even threatened Bedi about enlisting the sup-

port of the actors' union and taking action against her

if her payment wasn't immediately made. Bedi had

expressed deep resentment over the public humilia-

tion and the actress was shown the door.

Smita returns to 'Hitler Didi'

After making her acting debut with

the TV serial "Mrs. Kaushik Ki

Paanch Bahuein", actress Ragini

Nandwani enters fi lmdom with

"Dehraadun Diary" and hopes that

people appreciate it.

"It was nice. From television it's

like a jump to come into movies now,

so the experience was very nice.

The movie was very good and the

content is amazing," Ragini said in

an interview.

"I just hope it does good, people

appreciate the film and the hard

work which is done in the film,"

she added.

Ragini shares screen space

with actors like Rati Agnihotri

and Neelima Azeem in

"Dehraadun Diary", but was

under no pressure.

"No, there was no pres-

sure. Whether you talk

about Adhyayan

Suman, or you talk

about Ratiji or Neelima

Azeemji, all of them

are wonderful people

to work with," Ragini

said.

Life OK's popular mythological show Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev has

reached an interesting chapter in the lives of Mahadev-Parvati's

siblings, Ganapati and Kartikeya.

In a Maha episode, the siblings are seen engaging in an exciting

race to win the title of the one who will be worshipped first. The show

has been focusing on the growing angst of Kartikeya over Ganapati.

The show brings to its audiences the

popular tale of 'Parikrama' and the ul-

timate race. In a test between

Kartikeya and Lord Ganesh, the

one who should go around the

world the fastest would be con-

ferred upon the title of 'Param

Pujya' or the 'one who will

be worshipped first'.

On hearing this,

Kartikeya known to be

the swifter of the

two, mounts his

peacock and

begins the

race while

ponders on his

Kartikeya-Ganesha in theULTIMATE RACE

Recently Rajan Shahi's show Amrit

Manthan witnessed the entry of ac-

tor Karan Mehra whom we have seen in

shows like Viruddh and Behenein.

Karan is playing the character of Yug

who is the past of Natasha (Ankita Sharma)

in the show. Karan knows producer Rajan

Shahi quite well but it took some time for

them to work with each other. Apparently

Karan's and Rajan's parents were college

mates. Commenting on this Karan says, "It's

an author backed role so when I got the

brief of my character I just grabbed it. The

character also has few disguises from a

journalist to a watchman so that also ex-

cites me as an actor. Yug is the past of

Natasha (Ankita Sharma) and he has grey

shades to it." Karan is excited that finally

he is working under Directors Kut, Rajan

Shahi's production house.

Popular TV actor Ram Kapoor is looking for

ward to an exciting experience as the host of

new reality show "Welcome: Baazi Mehmaan

Naawazi Ki", the Indian version of British reality

show "Come Dine with Me".

"I am extremely excited to host 'Welcome...'. It

is a never seen before kind of a reality show and

I am glad to be

part of it. I hope the audience enjoys this experi-

ence," Ram said in a statement.

The show features an ensemble of popular celeb-

rities from TV and beyond, and tests their hosting, en-

tertainment and culinary skills. Each week, five ce-

lebrities will get together at the house of one mem-

ber of each group. The task of that member is not

just to cook a complete three course meal but

also keep the guests en-

tertained and engaged.

After dinner, the guests

judge that particular host on

categories of food, entertainment

value and hosting skills.

year and 300 episodes of the show. The show went on air 18th

December 2011 and if the one year celebrations weren't enough, it

has also completed 300 episodes. The show got immense popular-

ity because of the onscreen chemistry between Karanvir Bohra

and Sriti Jha and later by the entry of Harshad Chopra. Elated Direc-

tor of the show Ismail Umar Khan said, "It is a great feeling! In the

time of competition to survive and to hit 300 plus and completing one

year does make a difference. It's a feeling of fulfillment."

Amritsar is a holy city in the state of Punjab, India. The name of the

city derives from the name of the pool around the Golden Temple

and means "holy pool of nectar"

Amritsar is the spiritual and cultural centre of the Sikh religion centred

around the impressive Golden Temple, initiated by Guru Ramdaas, the

fourth Sikh Guru, and completed in 1601 by his successor Guru Arjan

Dev. It is now a major pilgrimage and tourism destination.

Its architecture represents a unique harmony between the Muslim

and Hindu way of construction work and is reputed as one of the best

architectural wonders of the world.

Bali is a small island across the strait at the eastern end of Java,

the main island. It is a three-hour flight from Singapore. Bali has

the Indian Ocean on the south and the Bali Sea on the north

separated by mountains that rise over 2000m (6600ft). Gunung Agung,

the active "mother" volcano rises to over 3100m (10300ft).

Bali, often referred to as the Island of the Gods, is a land of fiery

volcanoes and fertile valleys shrouded in mist. Terraced rice paddies

line deep gorges while resorts dot the shoreline. Fruits and vegetables

are plentiful and sounds of the gamelan are never far away. The em-

phasis in Bali is on harmony and culture.

This divine island has much

to offer yet most visitors go no

further than the southern

beaches. Temples, flanked by

walled courtyards, outnumber

houses and beautifully land-

scaped water gardens peer out

invitingly from homes and busi-

SARSON DA SAAG

INGREDIENTS

• Fresh mustard leaves (sarson)

5 bunches

• Spinach leaves (palak) 2 bunches

• Bathua 1 bunch

• Cornmeal 1 cup

• Ghee 2-3 tablespoons

• Ginger, finely chopped 2 1/2

tablespoons

• Onions, finely chopped 2-3 medium

• Salt to taste

• White butter A dollop

METHOD

Heat 1½ cups Bisleri water in an

earthen pot. Chop all the greens.

When the water comes to a boil,

add the chopped greens.

Add 3 finely chopped green chillies,

press a little, cover and cook for 20-25

INGREDIENTS

• Eggs 8

• Oil 4 tablespoons

• Onions, chopped 4 medium

• Tomatoes, chopped 4 medium

• Ginger, grated 1 inch piece

• Green chillies, chopped 4

• Salt to taste

• Fresh coriander leaves 4 table-

spoons

METHOD

Chop onions and tomatoes

roughly. Heat oil in a pan. Sauté

onions till light brown. Add ginger, green

chillies and tomatoes and continue to sauté. Break

eggs into a bowl and add salt and whisk lightly. Pour

this into the pan and cook stirring continuously till al-

most dry. Lower the heat and sauté till dry. Add cori-

ander leaves and serve hot with ajwain flavoured

paranthas or bread.
