The latest we hear is that Akshara (Hina Khan)

might soon be delivering a baby boy.

According to our source," It's celebration

time at the Singhania house. Akshara will be

a mother soon. The production house has

been building up a lot of drama and anxiety

around this track. The baby boy will bring good

out. The Singhania family will soon move to

The Rules:Two contestants compete at a time. The

game begins with the buzzer round and the

winner gets to answer first. The contestant

continues to answer till he gets it wrong. Then

the other contestant gets his chance to an-

swer the questions. To win, a contestant has

to earn 5 Punyas. The winner of 5 Punyas can

continue or forfeit the game. If forfeit

he takes the earning home. If he con-

tinues, he gets a new Challenger.

He will keep winning till the chal-

lenger defeats him or he quits.

Priya or Aditi - a look alike?Priya Bhatija, last seen in Imagine's Dwarkadheesh - Bhagwaan Shree Krishna is

having a tough time dealing with issues due to her close resemblance with

Bollywood actress Aditi Rao Hydari. Aditi is known for her bold journalist role in the

recent Imtiaz Ali blockbuster, Rockstar.

Sharing an incident, Priya said, "I really have

no idea if I look like Aditi. But yes I got to know

from a few people that we resemble each other

a lot. There was an incident that took place

which just left dumbstruck. When the movie

Rockstar released, my friends called me up and

complained why I hadn't told them about my

role in the film. Not just that, earlier Aditi had

Shilpa Shetty has confirmed reports that

she is expecting her first child with hus-

band Raj Kundra.

The 36-year-old Bollywood star, who

found international fame on UK's 'Celebrity

Big Brother' in 2007, took to her Twitter page

to tell fans about her happy news.

"Tweetos, 'YES' an addition to our family

is our confirmation to all queries :) We seek

blessings from all in this very beautiful phase

of our lives," the Daily mail quoted her as

writing.

This is the first child for Shetty, but her

London-based businessman Kundra hus-

band, who she married in 2009, has a daugh-

ter from a previous relationship.

The actress is thought to be in her sec-

ond trimester.

"Shilpa suffered a miscarriage earlier this

year, so this time Raj and she did not want to

break the news till the first trimester was

complete. Now, she has started telling her

close friends," a source close to the actress

don't do good films. I do hit films. I work in

working with other actors who reach the

set on the dot at 9 am and work according to

Apparently, Slaman Khan has decided not

to do films for friends or bail out distressed

this is Salman's new career plan.

However, the Lagaan director has

laughed off all such reports calling it simply

rumours. He says, "How I wish that were

true. I'd love to do a film with him. No such

luck."

Chopra's love for music and her up-

coming music album, which will be out very

soon. We also know that besides singing in

her album, the actress has even penned the

Reason: Priyanka fears that most of her life

the lyrics is a lot about her.

Theko-2003. Vidya is a linguistic genius be-

ing well versed in Malayalam, Tamil, Marathi,

Bengali and Hindi. In 2005 she got Parineeta

which proved a blockbuster and a great hit

at Box Office. This earned her Filmfare

award for Best Female debut as well as

nomination for Best Actress. Subsequently,

her role in Lage Raho Munna Bhai-2006 op-

posite Sanjay Dutt and Mani Ratnam's Guru-

2007 got her established as a brilliant artist.

Her landmark role of a young, indepen-

dent gynaecologist (a single mother

struggling with her 12 year old son's Pro-

geria syndrome) was Paa.

The film was well received by critics.

Her portrayal ultimately won her Filmfare and

Screen awards for Best Actress among oth-

ers. In 2010 her acting in Ishqiya was highly

appreciated by critics

In March 2010, she was honoured with

a retrospective of her work in Australia -

Indian Film Festival Bollywood and Beyond.

She will be appearing in 'Chenab's Gandhi'

produced by Sanjay Bhansali which cen-

tres around the Frontier Gandhi. Her recent

movie Dirty Pictures - a biopic based on the

life and death of a Southern actress Silk

Smitha - is said to be highly controversial

with characterization and costumes delib-

erately designed to excite the audience.

Mallika Sherawat has moved to the US,

thanks to her international projects, but

says her heart resides in Bollywood and that

people in the West are curious about the Hindi

film industry.

"I am more of a global actress now but

to announce her performance at Hotel Tulip

Star's New Year's Eve show.

Mallika has made US her second home

and has been there for the past two years.

maker today, but he was first introduced

to film industry by none other than his uncle,

late legendary actor Dev

Anand. Now, the acclaimed

Bollywood filmmaker re-

calls the moments spent

with Dev Anand and ac-

tress Zeenat Aman on the

sets of his debut movie Ishq

Ishq Ishq in 1974.

On his blog titled "My

uncle Dev Anand, the man

no one knew…", Shekhar

Kapur remembers several

interesting anecdotes and

incidents happened on the

sets of film Ishq Ishq Ishq, which was di-

rected and produced by Dev Anand. He

writes, "Ishq Ishq Ishq was my break into

movies. Tiny role, but hey, I got to romance

Zeenat Aman."

Shekhar Kapur continues, "I have many

stories of those two months that I will have

the courage to tell one day.

He talks about his

uncle's disregard for

money. He states, "Dev

Anand had put all his own

money, almost everything

he owned into Ishq Ishq Ishq. Money had no

value to him, except to make films. On this

evening he was talking calls from the press

and the distributors.

'I only play lead roles'MUMBAI: Dev Anand wasn't a star. He was

a philosophy. The 88-year-old actor, who died

of cardiac arrest on December 4, symbolised

six decades of Hindi cinema and a spirit that

insisted that the show must go on. No matter

that the films ceased to seduce or that view-

ers stopped showing up decades ago. Dev

Anand continued to create and despite the

mostly substandard quality of his output, he

never lost his icon status or the affection of

his audience and colleagues.

Did you know that:Dev Anand's first acting job was at the

Prabhat Film Company, where he was paid

400 rupees per month (less than $8 at today's

exchange rate), of which 35 rupees were de-

ducted as income tax.

In 2007, the director Farah Khan shot an

outsized dance number for the title song of

her film Om Shanti Om. The film was set against

the back drop of Bollywood and every star of

every generation worth his or her name - from

Salman Khan to Dharmendra to Rekha - agreed

to appear in the song. But when Farah called

Dev Anand, he refused. He said: "I only play

leading men."

Cult filmDev Anand and his brother Vijay Anand spent

a sleepless night after the premiere of Guide in

1965. "Nobody called us," he said in an inter-

view. "Goldie and I kept discussing it. I thought

people have not understood the story. But even-

tually it became a cult film," Dev Anand said.

Dev Anand and an equally legend-

ary Bollywood filmmaker, Guru Dutt,

first met at the Prabhat Film Comp

any in 1946. After they exchanged

polite hellos, Dev Anand noticed that

Guru Dutt was staring at his shirt. It

turned out that the washerman had

mixed up their shirts and Dev Anand

was wearing Guru Dutt's shirt. Dev

Anand said: "We had a hearty

laugh and embraced each

other. We were to be

friends for all

times."



Pangs & pleasureof first love

Thieves' plan to steal gold bullionPlayers is an action thriller directed by duo, Abbas-Mustan starring, Abhishek Bachchan,

Sonam Kapoor, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Bipasha Basu, Bobby Deol, Omi Vaidya and Sikander

Kher in the lead roles. It is an Indian remake of the 2003 American film, The Italian Job, and

is about a team of thieves who plan to steal gold bullion from a former associate who

double crossed them.

Shooting for the film has been done throughout India, New Zealand and Russia.

The filming took place in Goa, New Zealand's Wellington and Auckland earlier in

2011, and a long schedule was also shot in Siberia, St Petersburg and other

locations in India. Players is set to release on 6 January 2012 making it the

first release of 2012.

Players first look was unveiled on 3 November 2011 and music was

launched on November 30.

larity and Jodi Breakers nearing comple-

tion, Bipasha Basu has plenty to look forward

to on the work front. The actress, however,

remains vague about details of her personal

life, especially when it comes to her alleged

relationship with her Dum Maaro Dum co-star

Rana Daggubatti.

Is it true that you are dating RanaDaggubatti?

No. But I also lie sometimes. In 2011, it was

my resolution to lie once in a while. My honesty

regarding my previous relationship has got me

nowhere. So you've got to catch me when I lie.

You made a debut with Abbas-Mustan'sAjnabee and Players is your fourth filmwith them. How instrumental have theybeen in shaping your Bollywood career?

I am like their baby; they treat me like their

kid. We understand each other totally. If it

wasn't for them, I would never have become

an actor. They are directors who know how to

use me best in a film.

When you came into the industry, youkind of defied norms with your bold ava-tar. Was it a conscious effort?

I was not a Hindi film viewer and I was

my own person. When I entered the busi-

ness, I was told there are rules a Hindi film

actress needs to follow. For instance, I was

asked not to drink iced tea in a glass be-

cause people on the set talked about how I

drank whisky in the open - I found that bi-

zarre. But I stuck to my guns, I told my direc-

tors that I don't care what they think. I know

what I am doing.

Your unconventional attitude off-screen

often got translated on-screen as well.Yes, I came across as someone who

could take care of herself. I never hesi-

tated to play the negative role, because it

was so far away from me and it was more

challenging.

I launched myself in Bollywood in a nega-

tive role. Movies like Jism and Race were an

extension of what I liked doing on screen.

Is your character in Players also nega-tive?

With Abbas Mustan films, you do not have

negative characters, you have characters with

grey shades.

You sport a bikini in the film, which hasnow become a regular practice in films.But are you proud of the fact that youmade sexy popular long ago with Jism?

I am glad I have brought about a change in

Bollywood. There was a strong taboo against

women being sexy.

Although actresses were sexy in the '70s,

Bollywood became strange in the '80s and

early '90s and being sexy became a bad thing.

I remember journalists being apologetic when

they asked me how do I like being termed as

sexy. I used to tell them that I feel good be-

cause people also call Julia Roberts sexy.

Is fitness still a rage with you?It will always be. It is very important in the

business. As a movie-goer, I feel that when

you are watching people on the big screen,

why not see physically fit people?

After Players, you have the Hollywoodfilm Singularity. How important is it interms of your filmography?

It's very important because I have really

worked hard for it. I shot for it in Australia

amid these dangerous bugs that could kill you

with just one bite. Since I was playing an In-

dian warrior, I was barefoot at all times. There

were times when I drank the swamp water,

fought with 50 soldiers, had cuts all over my

body. But I still had the time of my life.



D irected by fi lmmaker Karan

Johar's former assistant,

Karan Malhotra, 'Agneepath', a re-

make of the 1990 Hindi film is reportedly

radically different from the original film.

The remake sees Hrithik Roshan re-

prising Bachchan's iconic role of Vijay

Deenanath Chauhan, while Priyanka

Chopra is the female lead. The character

essayed by Mithun Chakraborty has been

totally done away in the remake and the

role of villain played by Danny Denzongpa

is being essayed by Dutt, who reveals a

bald look.

Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor plays an-

other negative character. Kapoor appar-

ently gave a look test for the first time in

20 years for Agneepath.

The on-screen couple Hrithik Roshan

and Priyanka Chopra sizzle in the roman-

tic songs. In a slow, romantic number, their

wet clothes accentuate the raw physi-

cality, and the downpour on screen is

hardly enough to keep the smouldering

temperatures at bay.

Trade guru Taran Adarsh says, "Hrithik

has a raw appeal that is yet to be tapped.

Even in his father's masala movies, he

comes across as being polished. But in

Agneepath, director Karan Malhotra has

managed to bring out untapped aspects

of Hrithik's persona. Priyanka has already

proved her versatility. From Fashion to Saat Khoon

Maaf, one has seen a wide oeuvre. She is not only a

glamorous girl; she's an actress of substance too.''

CHIKNI CHAMELIKatrina Kaif looks hotter than ever in her rustic ava-

tar Chikni Chameli for the item song in the film.

In the song, Kat is seen wearing a tight choli and a

low slung lehenga. Critics are quick to remind Kat that

after Sheila Ki Jawani became a rage in 2010, she had

said she would never do a similar song and never

show her stomach again!

"Yes, I did say that, I accept it. I had said it as it was

really hard to get into that shape. But when Karan

approached me for this number, even though I was

not 100% sure, his conviction made me go back on my

words," she says.

he item number is a Hindi remake of a Marathi dance

number, Kombadi Palali, from the film Jatra (2006).

The Chikni Chameli melody is reminiscent of the

Marathi chartbuster Kombdi padali from Jatra (2006)

which had the same music directors Ajay and Atul.

Another striking feature of the song is the energy

Katrina brings to her dance movements. It seems Sheila

has primed her for the all-out desi jhatkas and she

looks as though she is enjoying herself.

Atul Gogavale, one of the composers

of the Marathi song, says "Yes, 'Chikni

Chameli' is a Hindi version of our Marathi

song and we had to make the Hindi ver-

sion sound even better."

LESS VIOLENCEIt's said that Karan has decided to tone

down violent sequences in the film, be-

fore dispatching the prints to Overseas.

Reason? The Indian Diaspora, generally,

tilts towards rom-coms, while films de-

picting violence and bloodshed find lim-

ited takers internationally. Perhaps, this

must have prompted Karan to trim those

scenes.

Karan admits he discussed the issue

with the Overseas distributor of

Agneepath [Eros], but he clarifies, "It

wouldn't be right to say anything at this juncture, till

we watch the final cut of the film. But I'd like to add

that the violence is more in words and emotions in

Agneepath. There's no bloodshed, gore or unneces-

sary violence that may put off the viewer. My director's

[Karan Malhotra] fundas are clear. He's aimed the film

at the universal audience. There's no cause for worry."


Tricked trio trackdown conman

As Dimple Chaddha, the motor-mouthed spoilt-little-rich-brat who's

lattoo over her gym-trainer boyfriend, newcomer Parineeti Chopra

steals 'Ladies vs Ricky Bahl' from under the nose of its leads. Whether

she's barging into her father's office, demanding that he help solve

her boyfriend's property dispute, or drooling over the sight of

the man who duped her of her affection and her

money, she's the most charming thing about this in-

consistent film.

Dimple from Dilli, along with Raina from Mumbai

(Dipannita Sharma), and Saira from Lucknow (Aditi

Sharma) - discover they've each been swindled by

the same deceitful charmer (Ranveer Singh). Now

the trio put their heads together, and come up with a

plan to get revenge on him - they hire a woman

(Anushka Sharma) to con the conman.

The film's first half hour or so plays out breezily,

where everything from Habib Faisal's delightful dia-

logues to Ranveer Singh's performance as an ear-

nest, middle-class Dilliwala hits the right note.

Pleasing female clienteleAfter regaling and entertaining moviego-

ers with Garam Masala six years ago,

Akshay Kumar and John Abraham reunite in

Desi Boyz. Helmed by first-timer Rohit

Dhawan, son of the badshaah of entertain-

ers David Dhawan, this one goes a step fur-

ther. Serious issues such as recession, un-

employment and economic crisis have been

integrated into the plotline, which compels

the boyz, Akshay Kumar and John Abraham,

to choose an alternate job - join a male es-

cort agency run by Sanjay Dutt.

Desi Boyz is a lot of fun as the male pro-

tagonists take to pleasing their female clien-

tele. The first hour, frankly, is akin to a roller

coaster ride with lots of fascinating develop-

ments unfolding at a feverish pace. The best

part is that a tinge of realism [economic crisis]

has been injected to the plot, which makes

the motives appear convincing on screen.

turned-actor Jacqueline Fernandes

was athletic as a teenager but realized

the importance of a good body when she

went for the Miss Universe contest.

For Jacqueline fitness means eating

right. She says, "Fitness is not just about

looking good but maintaining optimal lev-

els of energy. It's important that you eat

the right food in right quantity."

In her quest for an ideal body,

Jacqueline upped her protein intake and

workouts (an extra class or extra 45

minutes of ab exercises or cardio) and

focused on healthy, equal and well-bal-

anced meals. "Cheese and dry fruits are

my indulgences since I'm not a chocolate

or dessert person," she smiles.

Jacqueline doesn't agree with the popu-

lar notion that trainers need to be hard task

masters. She believes that they should be

on the same page as you and be very

supportive. "They need to take you along

and keep you on track," she opined.

Although the actor loves working out,

gym exercises are not for her. She's not

a very gym person; instead she prefers

outdoor workouts in fresh air. She en-

joys doing yoga as it gives her positive

vibes and energy. "Yoga keeps me posi-

tive and I also dance to keep fit," she

says, adding that it's important to wear

workout gear that's comfortable, of good

quality and suitable to the climate. "Shoes

are important too as the wrong footwear

can cause injuries."

Minissha was born in Kashmir on January 18, 1985 to a

Punjabi-speaking Sikh family. Minissha's father was the Gen-

eral Manager of the Grand Palace in Srinagar, where she too

lived for two years. Her father was in the hospitality industry

when Minissha was growing up and this gave her the opportu-

nity to travel around the country and meet different people.

Her family consists of her dad Kewal, mom Manju, and brother

Karan. She had not really decided to act in films, her goal was to

become a journalist, but she loved modeling and was fortunate

enough to be selected to model for Cadbury. Clearly her intent was to

complete her education, concentrate on an academic career and do

some modeling on the side. She was successful in completing her

schooling from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, as well as from Srinagar's Army

School, and then majored in English with Honors in 2004 from Delhi

University affiliate Miranda House.

While studying for a degree in Delhi, she was offered to represent

ad campaigns like LG, Sony, Cadbury, Hajmola, Airtel, Sunsilk etc. But it

was the ad shoot for Cadbury that turned out to be lucky for her. She

was approached by Bollywood director, Shoojit Sircar, who signed her

to act in his film Yahaan (2005). She accepted it and moved on to

acting making her film debut with Yahaan. Critics praised the

movie citing Lamba's performance as one of the high-

lights.

In 2008, she acted in Siddharth Anand's film

Bachna Ae Haseeno which also starred Bipasha

Basu, Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor in

the lead roles. This movie was produced by

Yashraj Films. Her next major role was in the

Shyam Benegal film Well Done Abba (2010),

which was highly acclaimed at the Cannes

Film Festival. She has also played support-

ing roles in Corporate, Rocky: The Rebel,

INGREDIENTS

• Refined flour (maida) 1 1/2 cups

• Baking powder 1 1/2 teaspoons

• Cinnamon powder 1 teaspoon

• Lemon rind 1/4 teaspoon

• Almonds, blanched and chopped 10-12

• Tutti frutti, chopped 3 tablespoons

• Glazed cherries, chopped 12-15

• Walnuts, chopped 1/4 cup

• Mixed peels, chopped 4 tablespoons

• Cashewnuts, chopped 8-10

• Raisins 25-30

• Currants 15-20

• Rum 1/2 cup

• Eggs 6

• Vanilla essence a few drops

• Butter 1 1/2 cups

• Brown sugar,soft 1 1/2 cups

• Honey 1 tablespoon

• Oil for greasing

METHODSieve flour with cinnamon powder

and baking powder. Add lemon rind to it

and mix. Keep it aside. Soak chopped

almonds, tutti frutti, glace cherries, wal-

nuts, mixed peels, cashewnuts, raisins

and currants in rum. Preheat oven to

180°C. Grease a cake tin. Break eggs

and beat them with vanilla essence.

Cream butter with one and a quarter

cups of brown sugar till it is soft and

light in colour. Add honey and mix.

Make caramel with the remaining

brown sugar and a little water. It should

be blackish in colour. Mix the beaten eggs

with the creamed butter and sugar and

mix gently. Add the flour mixture and mix

with a light hand. Strain the caramel into

the soaked fruits and mix well. Add it to

the cake batter and mix gently. Pour the

batter into the prepared cake tin. Bake

at 180°C for thirty minutes. Reduce the

temperature to 160°C and bake further

for forty-five minutes. When done take

it out of the oven and leave it on a rack

to cool. Cut into slices and serve.

of Mutton

• ½ kilograms of

Wheat Grains

(crushed and soaked

in water for 1 ½ hour)

• 1 cup of Gram Lentils (soaked and boiled)

• 3 medium Onions (thinly sliced)

• 1 tbsp. Garlic Paste (Pisa Lehsan)

• 1 tbsp. Ginger Paste (Pisi Adrak)

• 1 tsp. Garam Masala Powder

• 2 tbsp. Red Chilli Powder (Pisi Lal Mirch)

• 1 ½ tbsp. Coriander Powder (Pisa Dhania)

• 1 tsp. Turmeric Powder (Pisi Haldi)

• Salt (to taste)

• A pinch of Soda

• 1 ½ cup Dalda Vanaspati or any Clarified

Butter (Ghee)

METHOD1. Heat Vanaspati or clarified butter in a

pan. Put meat in the pan, add garlic, garam masala

powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder,

turmeric powder, and salt. Cook on medium

heat.

2. In a separate pan boil wheat grains

with lots of water, add salt. When the grains

become tender and mushy add a pinch of soda

and cook further for 15 to 20 minutes.

3. Now mix the wheat grains with the

meat and mix well. Stir continuously so that

both are mixed properly. Now grind the lentils

in a food processor. Make it into a thick paste

by adding 2 cups of water while processing

it.

4. Pour the lentil paste into the meat and

wheat mixture and stir to mix well. Place the pan

on a heavy tava or griddle on low heat and cook

for 30 to 40 minutes.

5. Fry the sliced onion in clarified butter

and drain on absorbent paper towel. When the

Haleem is cooked, sprinkle fried onions, garam

masala powder, fresh mint, and coriander leaves.

Garnish with cumin and ginger. Keep a little of

the seasoning separate and serve with Haleem.

Serving Suggestions: Serve hot with fried

onions, garam masala powder, fresh mint, and

coriander leaves.

year. As Mars will stay very

strong in first half, you will be more

confidant and take few coura-
