El GeneralWell, here it is D-Day with a capital D. ‘Do or die’ you could say but for me atleast not exactly. Let me explain. About a year ago after CD Tenerife´ssecond straight relegation, the doom merchants were forecasting that theclub would be in danger of folding, crowds would fall to 3-4,000, and theinterest would drop sharply. We have come through that barrier with flyingcolours. It has not been easy adapting on the field but crowds haveaveraged the 10,000 mark and fans have been present at every away gamethis season. Not something most clubs enjoy at this level. If we do it todayfantastic, if not, it is only a matter of time before a club with this backing getsback into professional football. To me is more important than the on-fieldsuccess in a way. Let’s face it, the blanquiazules will never win anything(well, it has been 99 trophy-less years so it´s fair to say that it could beanother few!), but games like today are as close as we can get. Hopefullytoday we can re-live that epic night of three years ago against Xerez when Iswear the stadium shook, as the tv commentator reported. By the way, If itgoes to penalties today I will be off! Find me in the park sitting under a bush.The annual bbq will be next Sunday on July 1st at Cho Pancho (venue of thevery first bbq). Coach pick up start at The Toby Jug at Midday beforeheading to Los Cristianos, pick up at 12.15. Thanks to Bob we have beencollecting all year so all meat & beer expenses have been covered. Returnwill be at 6pm in time for the Euro 2012 Final at 7.45pm.

Kike LópezWho Are Ya?What a little goal poacher Kike Lopez is turningout to be, no defence is safe when he slipswide and tucks the ball past the keeper. CoachQuique Medina has to take some credit for thelate season rise in form of our 24 year oldforward, Kike had been playing wide on the leftbut the newly installed coach said he wantedto push him up front more as a supportingforward – it has certainly worked.Born in Salamanca Kike joined the RealValladolid youth system playing mainly for theB team, a seasons loan to Poli Ejido camebefore he was sold to Salamanca where heenjoyed a couple of settled seasons. Kikestarted this campaign at Villarreal B but leaptthrough the January transfer window to join CDTenerife – his contract should see him hereuntil June 2014.Fast on the ball and with a good footballingbrain Kike is now spotting those half chancesand looking to convert them into goals. Awayat Linense, Kike played much of the game asour lone forward with Perona hanging backthen for the home leg he went back to a moresupportive role showing how versatile he is.Not to be confused with the Madrid DJ of thesame name, Kike is in the groove and lookingto fire CD Tenerife into Liga Adelante.
