And now, the end is near ...

El GeneralWell it has been a hectic week in the life of CDT. Champions last Sunday after thevictory in Madrid, but the club has been wrapped in controversy over the decisionto charge season ticket holders for the play-offs.

There are two sides to every argument I suppose. The President states we aredesperate for money and they will not be able to pay the players or staff, meaningthey will not be able to gain promotion anyhow. Fans say that the club havetargeted the easy option, when they have had all year to look for sponsorship andfunding. I have softened my view slightly towards the stance of the club, but ifTenerife go up they are guaranteed eight million euros, so we should doeverything we can to fill the stadium and help the team now.

The fans are planning to make a protest at today’s match resulting in a "animationstrike" for the first 15 minutes. Then on 15 minutes there will be a mass chantagainst the board of directors. After that back to normal because let´s not forgethow good the team have been this season.

Regards play-offs; Draw - Monday May 20th. 1st leg May 26th - 2nd leg June 2nd.I have already paid for all Armada Sur’s ticket holders the extra 7€, you can paytoday or on the match day. Enjoy it today, should be a good open game, pressureis off us but our rivals RSD Alcala need to win to stay up.

El General

There are always a few strange andunexpected games at the end of the seasonand CD Tenerife has had its fair share. My first finale was the relegation season of2001-02. We needed other results to go forus as well as win our home game. Just intothe second half the lights failed in theHeliodoro and a few of us retired to theRefugio bar to watch the other games on TV.Our rivals were winning so when we returnedto our re-lit stadium our fate was alreadysealed, but at least we got a few extra beers. The last home game is often aboutgoodbyes, and in June 2009 CDT had wonpromotion to the Primera and we turned upto see them win the title. Maybe it was theweek of partying for the players or maybe itwas ‘El General’ ordering a batch of t-shirtsproclaiming us as champions but Castellonsurprised us by beating us 1-2.At least we had the big send off for retiringlegend Cristo but when the fans went on thepitch the club turned the sprinklers on –maybe they didn’t like the swinging on thegoals and cutting off chunks of the grass andgoal nets. Then in May 2011 we ended the homecampaign against Ponferradina.

Relegation was still an open wound and itwas a poor game drawing 1-1 with Bellvisgetting sent off. This time it was goodbye toNino our goal hero, he scored and got agood send off, certain other players thatcouldn’t wait to jump ship got less of a fondfarewell.Today we have every reason to celebrate, the whole squad has done us proud and themission is half accomplished. Hopefully thehome promotion play off game will bememorable for all the right reasons, thefountain got away with it last year and ‘ElGeneral’ wants to make it a bubbly party thisyear.
