Thunderbird Celebrate Homecoming Week with a Big Win

It seems like summer was just yesterday. Short trips to the lake and a weekday at Leitch Gardens was on everyones schedules. Then it was school. And class. And Homecoming! School just started on August 25 and, two weeks later, and East High Homecoming Week was upon us.
Due to the Labor Day weekend, the week kicked off on Tuesday, September 8, for the T-birds with the rst of four spirit days Fake Injury Day. The halls lled with a triage of bandages, crutches, and eye patches. Up next was Wednesdays Bat-tle of the Sexes. The only real battle that occurred was the race to see how many boys could show up in pink, while the girls were rewarded for wearing blue.
On the third day, Thursday, the students dressed things up for Jazz Day. From ap-pers to fedoras, style roamed the halls of East.
The nal theme for the week was EHS Fanatic Day. Thunderbird Blue dominated the school in anticipation of that evenings football game. Stu-dents were decked out in the usual T-Bird themed shirts to painted faces to crazy blue clothing.
The student body gathered in the main gym
for a pep rally during the last hour of the day. Asusual, the T-Birds rocked the house in preparation of the big game against South High School. Af-ter a moment of silence to recognize the lives lost on September 11, 2001, in New York, Washing-ton DC, and Pennsylvania, each class took a turn trying to shout down the other, rally around somecrazy skits, and get red up.
Friday nights game was a nail-biter. Most fans expected East to easily and quickly roll over the
Bison, but South hadother plans. After a crazy back-and-forthaffair, that actually witnessed the Thun-derbirds fall behind on the scoreboard, the Blue and Black rallied with two late intercep-tions and a couple key touchdowns to lock the game away. The Thunderbirds sealedanother homecoming victory, 41-27, andcelebrated a toughvictory.
(It was) a great high school football game,T-Birds coach Chad Goff said. The kids came outand left everything on the eld.
The annual Homecoming Dance on Saturday nished off an amazing week for the Thunder-birds.

Chris Herren, a basketball legend from Fall River, Massachusetts, dreamed of one day playing for his hometown team, the Boston Celtics. An All-American, Chris broke scoring records, was recruited by top colleges, featured in Sports Illustrated and became the focus of an acclaimed book, Fall River Dreams. Herren realized his lifelong dream of playing in the NBA when he was drafted by the Denver Nuggets in 1999 and was traded to the Boston Celtics after his rookie season, but lost it all due to substance abuse.
Alcohol and drug-free since August 1, 2008, he has refocused his life to put his sobriety and family above all else. He shares his harrowing story of abuse and recovery in his memoir, Basketball Junkie, as well as in numerous interviews throughout the Emmy nominated ESPN Films documentary Unguarded, of which he is the subject.
Please join us for an inspiring presentation featuring former NBA professional basketball player, Chris Herren.
