Some like to hike, some like to run, then some like to mountain bike. Mountain bik-ing has had a great surge of interest all over the world recently. We were lucky enough to catch an edge of it. In 2011 a team was created for adrenaline junkies who love to go fast and be outside. This team is for any high school student at Central, East and South who is interested in mountain biking.

This season there are 4 races. The team gets the opportunity to get to go to some incredible places to race, such as Frisco, Leadville, Eagle, and Northrop. All of the races are in Colorado because there arent enough Wyoming teams to create our own league.

Mountain Biking gives kids who dont get a lot of chances to leave the state, or even just an opportunity to see other plac-es. At races, most of the time a lot of the teams camp together, which is a lot of fun. Team members get a chance to talk to other teammates more, because during races or even just at practice, they dont get a lot of chance to talk to each other.

Not only is it a lot of fun, but it is a great way to meet new people, because it is a team with students from Central, East, and South high school. With a large vari-ety of students from each grade and all of the schools, members get a chance to make more connections with teachers at other

schools and with other under/upper class-men.

The season started with 12 members. Sixof those members were new this year. Theteam will lose 5 of the members as they are seniors this year.

Team manager, Jodee Pring, says, I am very excited about the 2016 season and watching these riders continue to improve, we are always looking for new team mem-bers, both guys and gals.

This is an extremely fun sport, but its not for every person. There are risks forcrashes, broken bones, and broken bikes. Also, it can be very time consuming be-cause it is not a school run sport, membershave to provide their own transportation,equipment, etc. Sometimes this is a bit ofa problem but with all the new friends youwill have made, you are bound to be able tocarpool with one of your new friends.

Mountain biking is time consuming and potentially dangerous but it is also reward-ing; you get to meet new people, explorenew places, and learn or perfect a lifelongskill. Hope to see you out there! Good luck,and good racing!

Circle of Champions Luncheon Honoring

Gus FleischliGus Fleischli will be the honoree during the Positive Impact Busi-

ness Week presented by Woodhouse Roden Nethercott, LLC on Tuesday,November 3rd at 11:30 a.m. Th e Circle of Champions luncheon will take place at Little America. Stephen Leafgreen, outgoing chairman of the Chamber Business Council, will interview the honoree, Gus Fleischli.

Fleischli served as chairman of Honor Flight. He coordinated and worked to bring more than 650 Wyoming veterans on a two-day trip to the nations capital. Volunteer nurses and caregivers contributed their services and paid their own way to help care for the veterans. Many of the veterans were in their 90s.

In September of 2012, Fleischli was named a Community Service Award Recipient. Th is honor is given by the Wyoming Tribune Eagle and recognizes all of his contributions. He graduated from Cheyenne High School in 1943 and attended the University of Wyoming until World War II. He then joined the Army Air Corps at the age of 17 and fl ew a total of 32 missions over Germany as a waist gunner in B-17 bombers until the war concluded. He attained the rank of staff sergeant. He returned to the Uni-versity of Wyoming and moved back to Cheyenne where he worked at his familys car business until 1955. He worked on leasing the land where their car business was located and successfully grew it into 3 truck stops along the interstate. Aft er 35 years, Fleischli sold his business. With his strong entrepreneurial skills he began Fleischli Oil Company. His company spe-cialized in bulk fuel and lubricants to commercial accounts in mining, ag-riculture, construction and much more.

Fleischli is a true entrepreneur, an outstanding veteran of our armed forces, an alumni of our states schools and understands the meaning of civic trusteeship. From his participation in Cheyenne Frontier Days to all of his volunteer work with Honor Flight, Fleischli is someone we can all learn from.
