*Advent Reflections* 2020 Prepare your heart and soul for the advent of the LORD. “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son,” Galatians 4:4 *December 6thth – December 12thth* Sunday: “The heavens proclaim God’s justice; all people see his glory.” Psalm 97:6 Monday: “But you, LORD, are enthroned forever; your renown is for all generations.” Psalm 102:13 Tuesday: “Praise the LORD, all you nations!” Psalm 117:1 Wednesday: “Rather the LORD takes pleasure in the de-vout, those who await his faithful care.” Psalm 147:11 Thursday: “and again, when he leads the first born into the world,” Hebrews 1:6 Friday: “You made him a little while lower than the an-gels; Hebrews 2:7 Saturday: “you crowned him with glory and honor, sub-jecting all things under his feet.” Hebrews 2:8 “While they were there, the time came for her to have her child,” Luke 2:6

This is the prayer that Pope Francis proposes to Pray every day in Advent

Pope Francis proposed to Christians that during Advent they invite God to be present in their lives with this prayer: "Come, Lord Jesus." It is, the Pontiff explained, a simple prayer that "we can say at the beginning of each day and repeat it often, before meetings, study, important and difficult." Francis pointed out that through this prayer, “Come, Lord Jesus”, pronounced every day, “invoking your closeness, we will exercise our vigilance”. “It is a small prayer, but it comes from the heart. Let us say it, let us repeat it in this Advent season: 'Come, Lord Jesus' ”. He explained that "Advent is the time to remember the closeness of God, who has descended to us." It is also the first message of Advent and the Liturgical Year, to recognize that God is near, and to say to him: "Come closer!" He wants to get closer to us, but he offers himself, he doesn't impose himself. It is up to us to say incessantly: "Come!" Advent reminds us that Jesus came to us and will return at the end of time, but we ask ourselves: What good are these comings if he does not come into our life today? Let's invite him”. Therefore, "it is important to be vigilant, because a mistake in life is to lose oneself in a thousand things and not realize God." In this sense, he warned that “there is a dangerous dream: the dream of mediocrity. It comes when we forget our first love and move on out of inertia, worrying only about having a quiet life. " But without impulses of love for God, without waiting for his novelty, we become mediocre, luke-warm, and worldly. And this eats away faith, because faith is the opposite of mediocrity: it is the ar-dent desire of God, it is the persevering courage to convert, it is courage to love, and it is to always move forward”. So, “how can we wake up from the dream of mediocrity? With the vigilance of prayer. Praying is turning on a light at night. Prayer awakens us from the warmth of a horizontal life, raises our gaze upwards, and tunes us into the Lord”. Pope Francis ended his homily: “Pray and love, here is vigilance. When the Church adores God and serves others, it does not live at night. Even if you are tired and downcast, walk towards the Lord”.
