CHRISTMAS AT GRECCIO

1st Sunday of Advent November 29, 2020 Page 5

I am. I was. I will be. I am not coming soon I am here.

I was born on a cold night in a cold place Unnoticed, unheralded by cold people

Who turned my mother away. On that night were you listening?

On that night the “least of your brothers” was me. Now do you see, do you hear and do you care?

I am not coming soon I am here. In your life do you see me

In the ragged men and women Who search the cold street

Looking for my reflection in your heart? Do you hear my voice in

Their muttered plea or in their tear? I am not coming soon I am here.

Do you hear me when your friend turns to you To ask forgiveness and trust? Do I not forgive you always?

Do I not give you a merciful ear? I am not coming soon I am here.

In this season I was born unto you Fulfilling the promise of God’s care.

Look for me, listen to me… I am not coming soon I am here

At our 7 pm Mass in the parking lot on Christmas Eve, we’ll be celebrating “Christmas at Greccio,” St. Francis began the tradition of Christmas nativity sets. We’ll be featuring our own manger scene complete with live animals and members of our youth ministry. Stay tuned to this spot in upcoming bulletins as we read the full story of “Christmas at Greccio”, by Thomas of Celano, a contemporary of St. Francis who was charged with writing the first biography of his life: St. Francis’s highest aim, foremost desire, and greatest intention was to pay heed to the holy gospel in all things and through all things, to follow the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ and to retrace His footsteps completely with all vigi-lance and all zeal, all the desire of his soul and all the fervor of his heart. Francis used to recall with regular meditation the words of Christ and recollect His deeds with most attentive perception. Indeed, so thoroughly did the humility of the Incarnation and the charity of the Passion occupy his memory that he scarcely wanted to think of anything else.

St. Mary’s Parish Connected to Christ. Connected to Each Other.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, St. Mary’s friars, ministers, and staff have been livestreaming Masses, Processions, Blessings, Rosaries, Baptisms, Weddings, Funerals, and even the occasional “Mystery Drive By” to keep us connected to Christ and each other.

Now, we need your help to upgrade our equipment so we can continue to keep everyone connected in the years ahead.

Our finance council has reviewed a $25,000 plan for upgrading our livestreaming equipment. This upgrade will include:

An enhanced sound system which make our priests and lectors sound crisper and clearer.

A direct audio feed to our music ministry...it will sound as if the band is right in your home!

Better cameras for an even better picture…with more possibilities for creative camerawork.

An easy-to-use system to cut down on technical glitches and dropped recordings…it’ll be so simple, even Fr. Frank will be able to use it!

A streamlined console to remove the dangerous and unsightly wires from the front of the church and restore the noble beauty of our sanctuary.

A monogrammed director’s chair for Fr. John Aherne….and more!

Livestreamed services are here to stay. So many of you have reached out to say how much you’ve benefitted from our livestreamed services, that we will continue to livestream no matter what our future holds. But we need your financial help in order to do so.

We know times are tough. But if you’ve enjoyed our virtual services, we hope you will consider making a special donation to our “Keeping Us Connected” campaign. All monies collected will be used to upgrade and maintain our livestreaming equipment, both in the Church and Carnevale Center.

To donate, you may either send a check to the office and write “Keeping Us Connected” in the memo line; Text-to-give at 973-500-6123 and select “Keeping Us Connected” from the dropdown menu; or donate through Faith Direct. May God continue to keep us all connected.

One of the ways we are celebrating Advent is that we have Advent wreath craft kits available at the back of the Church for families with young children. Putting together the wreath as a family is a great way to have fun while teaching your children about Advent. Members of our Youth Ministry are at the back of the Church to give them out, and we encourage you to take a picture of your wreath and email it to Marissa Diaz at [email protected]. Thanks to Miss Toni from the Religious Education Program for arranging this activity for our families.
