Hindi lifestyle channel UTV Stars plans

to find an official face for their brand

through a TV show, The Chosen

One.

The project will feature 10 contestants

who will be chosen from auditions con-

ducted in Mumbai, Delhi, Chandigarh,

Lucknow and Ahmedabad. They will be

asked to perform a series of tasks from

walking the ramp to shooting ad promos, and

be judged by a changing panel of three ce-

lebrity guests from the worlds of Bollywood

and fashion.

Shifa Maitra, VP, programming, UTV Stars,

says, "Contestants will be tested on their

ability to handle anything in Bollywood. They

must do their research and know enough

about the star judges so that they can sur-

prise them."

New show to hunt for official 'face'She adds, "The channel's motto is to bring

diehard Bollywood fans closer to stars. On

The Chosen One, apart from getting a chance

to become the face of a channel, contes-

tants will also get to rub shoulders with ac-

tors and directors."

The winner of the contest will be associ-

ated with the channel for a year, anchoring

shows, and featuring in all their activities.

Shamoly Khera, who used to host the

popular series Live My Life, will return to

anchor this show. Despite promos that state

the contest is only for women between the

ages of 18 to 25, the channel reveals that

they've received entries from mature women

with kids, and even men from Argentina and

Spain. "But we are only looking for girls with

glamorous faces, who are bold and confi-

dent," insists Shifa.

SATYAMEV JAYATE is Aamir Khan's first television project

and the star says that the reality show will create his-

tory by becoming the first ever program to go live simul-

taneously on a private channel and national broadcaster DD.

The show is being dubbed in four southern languages -

Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada.

The show launches in Australia, New Zealand first week of May.

Aamir feels that TV is a very powerful medium and added:

"I had to make complete use of this medium. This is a baby step

towards it."

"I cannot say I understand TV completely. I was earlier

scared to go ahead with the project. I have made this show

with complete honesty and without compromising on anything."

The promo song of "Satyameva Jayate" is a love song.

Composed by Ram Sampath and written by Prasoon Joshi, it is

sung by Keerthi Sagathia.

About the timing of the show, he says, "I am not

scared of the saas or bahus. My thought was 'Bharat

jodo abhiyaan'."

"I am not attempting to change anybody's life. I

Recently while shooting for 'Tyohar', Viren

(Karan Tacker) and Jeevika (Krystal) of Ek

Hazaaron Main Meri Behna Hain fame became

centre of attraction. The handsome on screen

couple who claim are just friends were just

not ready to leave each other's company

during the shoot.

I really like the way you guys promote In-

dian channels in Australia on very affordable

cost and keep fans informed about Bollywood.

I believe you can make Australia the biggest

market for Asian cinema.

What is so good about Sydney that bringsyou back?

First of all the 'yaarian' (friendship) that I

share with Sukha Productions, Golu, Sippy,

Thind, Paul and Sukha and many more friends

and the fan following in Sydney. I get such a

great welcome every time I visit Sydney.

How do you deal with fame and popular-ity?

I have built my image by the sound I gave to

the industry. I have been very lucky. From the

beginning I didn't have to struggle.

A message for youngsters who want toget into the industry

My message out to all the youngsters is to

follow your own identity. Don't copy anyone.

Be what you are and what you believe in.

Any more projects or albums coming?Yes, few more videos are on the way for

Maharaja.

What is your favourite song?Ghuggi da Jora

Anything else you like to mention?Viewers who are still attached with back

The industry is doing really great. What

I am disappointed about is the piracy - people

downloading music and video off internet.

Any new upcoming projects?Oh yes. "Nanka Mail" in April and "Rock

the Party" in July.

Any one in industry inspires you?

There could be no one other than

Gurdass Mann - the power and the man of

Punjab. Grateful for the song we did to-

gether in 2006-2007.

Favourite songs?Banga & Maa Hundi

Is there anything you want to say forlate Kuldeep Manak Ji?

He was one in million. There won't ever

be another like him. It is a big loss to the

industry. I had family relations with him. It is

an awful feeling for me and his family.

Where were you born?I was born and brought up in UK but my

heart is attached to India.

When did you visit Australia last?That was five years ago.

What do you have to say for Jazzy B?He is a really good friend, very dedi-

cated to his work. I have supported him

always and will continuing supporting him

because it's all about the "yaarian" - the

trust the faith we have built in all this years.

Anything for the promoters?My promise to Sukha is that until he gets

sick of bringing me, I will keep my 'yaarian' and

will do my shows with him. He is more than a

promoter. He is a great friend. These guys are

doing great work.

Favourite lineMoney comes and goes but what we build

NSW Seniors Week with a Seniors

Forum which was held at Granville

Townhall on Saturday 24 March 2012.

Mrs Sumati Advani, Chair of the Forum

Organising Committee, welcomed the partici-

pants and said this Forum was an opportunity

to acknowledge the great contribution seniors

make to family, friends, workplaces and their

communities. Older people have skills, experi-

ence and knowledge that are vital to the pro-

ductivity and the wellbeing of the community.

UIA has drawn the attention of the govern-

ment to specific issues faced by the Austra-

lian Indian community, particularly the chal-

lenges faced by the Australian Indian Seniors

on bridging visas.

Mr Amarinder Bajwa, President of UIA,

stressed the need of financial help from the

governments to carry on its activities.

Consul General of India, Mr Amit Dasgupta,

felt forums like these help the community to

identify how the quality of life of seniors may

be improved.

Hon Andrew Constance, Minister for Aging

and Disability Services acknowledged the sig-

nificant contribution of Seniors, particularly in

the area of volunteering, and said that Se-

niors are providing a great example to future

generations by living life with dignity and re-

spect.

Hon Barbara Perry, Shadow Minister for

Aging and Disability Services acknowledged

UIA's submission to the Department of Age-

ing and said that she looked forward to work-

ing with UIA to address the issues raised

therein.

Ms Julie Owens, Federal Member for

Parramatta, highlighted the various initiatives

introduced by the Federal Government to ad-

dress the financial needs of Seniors. Pre-

sentations were also made by Hon Amanda

Fazio, Opposition Whip in NSW Legislative

Council, Mr Tony Issa, MP for Granville, Mrs

Aruna Chandrala, President of Global

Women's Network, Mr Purshottam Arora vis-

iting Yoga teacher and Mr Dave Passi repre-

senting Indian Seniors Group, Hornsby.

Kaif's hit Chikni Chameli, it's Sonakshi Sinha's

turn to dance in an item song titled Chikni

Kamar!

The song is a part of Akshay Kumar's up-

coming film Rowdy Rathore and Sonakshi is

all charged up to set the screen on fire with

her oomphy gyrations in her first ever item

song.

Sonakshi Sinha prefers to call the track -

"a complete masaledaar song". The song is

choreographed by Vishnu. From the sidelines,

director and ace choreographer Prabhu Deva

will also provide valuable inputs. Though

Sonakshi has shown some jhatka-matka in

her film Joker, her item song for Rowdy

Rathod will be in a different league altogether.

Sonakshi has not been asked to shed

weight for the song, nor is she dieting. "Prabhu

Deva and everyone else I'm working with like

me the way I am," claims Sonakshi.

She also confided that she has performed

some of the action sequences herself in the

film.

It's final. Ali Zafar will play Shahid Kapoor's Bade Bhai

in the much talked-about Hindi remake of last year's

Tamil blockbuster Vettai.

Madhavan who played the Bade Bhai's part in the

original is out of the Hindi remake.

Speaking ruefully from Chennai, director N.

Linguswamy who helms both the Tamil and Hindi remake

of Vettai says, "Madhavan is out of the country for three

months (getting his knees treated). We can't wait. Shahid

Kapoor has been finalized to play the younger brother.

We're going ahead with Ali Zafar for the other hero's

role."

will not be missing Aishwarya Rai as

old daughter. The 65th Cannes Film Festi-

val will be held from May 16 to 27.

Ash has been associated to L'Oreal,

the cosmetic brand for years now and

has always made it to the Cannes fest,

every year. This will be the eleventh year

in a row that she will sashay down the

red carpet at the event.

don a rather rugged avatar in Milan Luthria's

sequel to Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai.

Imran will be sporting a beefed-up body for

his role as a gritty gangster. The actor will be

gaining at least five kilos for the film. To acquire

the required look Imran will have to follow a

strict dietary regimen and extensive workout.

In Ouatim 2, Imran will be playing the role of

Aslam, a street fighter with a heart of gold. He

Zarine Khan was born on 25 May to a

Pathan family in Mumbai. When she was in

college she weighed almost 100 kgs. Although

she had never planned to be model, she began

to focus on losing weight and getting into

shape. She gave up sweets and started going

to the gym, eventually losing a large amount of

weight.

Khan was forced to abandon her educa-

tion while in college and begin working due to

the financial condition of her family. With no

marketable skills to rely on, she tried her hand

at modelling. Khan did quite well in a few small

assignments that fetched her enough money

to run the house.

She received her entry into acting when

she was visiting the sets of Yuvraaj at

Subhash Ghai's film school, Whistling Woods.

Salman Khan noticed her and decided to cast

her for his film Veer because "she looks the

character - the sweet princess she is playing

in Veer". After a screen test, Khan was con-

firmed for the role of Princess Yashodhara.

She gained eight kilos in order to look more

It's very easy to get stereotyped in this

industry. I wouldn't have been able to get

out of the 'sexy' image if it weren't for

"Housefull 2". After "Murder 2", I rejected

many roles which required me to be a sex

siren.

Do you think actresses get stereotypedmuch more than actors?

Absolutely. But luckily, we're now get-

ting our due. Vidya Balan has hit

Bollywood like a hurricane. I feel liber-

ated just talking about her. And then

there's Kareena, who's demanding her

they are set to tie the knot by November

this year. The wedding plans are yet to be put

in place, says the couple.

As per the reports, Soha and Kunal were

INGREDIENTS• Cauliflower 1 medium

• Mustard oil 3 tablespoon

• Mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon

• Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon

• Fenugreek seeds (methi dana) 1/4

teaspoon

• Fennel seeds (saunf) 1/2 teaspoon

• Onion seeds (kalonji) 1/4 teaspoon

• Coriander seeds,crushed 1 teaspoon

• Asafoetida 1/4 teaspoon

• Onion, chopped 1 medium

• Ginger paste 1 teaspoon

• Garlic paste 1 teaspoon

• Green chilli, chopped 3

• Salt to taste

• Yogurt 3\4 cup

METHODSeparate the cauliflower into large

florets. Heat the mustard oil to smoking

point in a kadai; add the mustard seeds,

cumin seeds, fenugreek

seeds, fennel seeds, onion

seeds, crushed coriander

seeds and asafoetida, and

sautÈ till they begin to change

colour. Add the onion and

sautÈ till translucent. Add the

ginger paste, garlic paste and

green chillies and sautÈ till the

onions turn light brown. Add

the cauliflower and salt and sautÈ over

medium heat till brown. Add the tur-

meric powder and one cup of water

and cook, covered, for ten to fifteen

minutes, or till cooked. Add the yogurt

and continue to cook till the water

evaporates and the gravy coats the

cauliflower. Serve hot.

FRIED PUTTUBy Suseela Jeyabalan

INGREDIENTS• 1 bowl Puttu (crumbled)

• 2 small green chillies, chopped

• 1 leak leave chopped

• 2 egg plants (cut it in small pieces)

• 2 potatoes (cut in small pieces)

• 2 carrots chopped

(Srilankan recipe)

• 2 onions, chopped

• 2 large stalks curry leaves, stalks removed

• 3 eggs

• 1/4 tbsp salt

• 1/8 tsp freshly ground black pepper

• 1cup boneless chicken curry

• Lime wedges

• Vegetable oil as required

• Butter as required

METHODHeat oil in a large wok over medium heat. Fry all the vegetables

(except carrot and leak) separately. Fry the carrot and leak with

butter. Add onion, chillies and curry leaves; cook, stirring, until onion

is soft, for about five minutes. Separately in a bowl, lightly beat eggs

with salt and pepper. Add to wok, cook, stirring, until mixture resembles

scrambled eggs, for about 1 minute. Add fried vegetables and Puttu.

Cook, stirring, until well heated through, for about five minutes and gar-

nish with lime.

Yeah this is Paresh Rawal, born on

30th May, 1950 in Bombay. He is an

alumnus of the well-known Narsee

Monjee Institute of Management and

made his debut in Holi-1984. During the

movies but his biggest hit was Hera

Pheri-2000. His quirky Marathi accent

and the typical mannerism made him

an instant hit. It also gave recognition

and adulation.

In 1984 he won the National Film

award for best supporting actor for

his performance in Who Chokri & Sir.

For the latter, he also received his first

Filmfare award for best comedian. It

was followed by Ketan Mehta's

Blessed with an athlete's body, DEEPIKA

PADUKONE does her bit to continue look-

ing like the lean, toned stunner that she is.

Former model and national level badminton

player, 26-year-old leggy actress has a figure

that can carry of both Indian and western out-

fits with equal finesse and grace. An excruci-

atingly strong will power makes it easy for her

to stick to exercise routines and diets without

wavering.

"I was always slim but I knew my body had

the potential to really look defined. I wasn't fat

or out of shape, but I wanted to look a lot bet-

ter. This is when I started training with Yasmin

Karachiwala and she introduced me to Pilates

and strength training. It did wonders for my

tone and definition. I may have lost maybe a

kilo or two at the most in all this time, but have

lost inches all around and it shows," she says.

Not one to enjoy conventional gym routines,

Deepika likes to shake up her regimen with a

mix of cardio, Pilates and yoga, constantly try-

ing to mentally push the limits of her endur-

ance and physical potential.

Pilates has worked wonders on her body

and she uses a combination of strength and

yoga to tighten the core muscles of the body

and relax the mind.

"I do a lot of freehand weights and four to

five sets of stretching exercises with 10 to 20

reps, in between Pilates or stretching routines.

I don't particularly like running so I don't do a lot

of conventional gym exercises," she says. "I

try and exercise as often as I can, but when

I'm travelling or shooting, I tend to skip it for

days on end."

One of the toughest things for Deepika was

the effort to break her sweet tooth. "All my

teeth are sweet. It's my weakness. When I

was younger, it was only chocolates; I

wouldn't touch any Indian sweets. But now I

crave anything sweet, but I try and be good. I

treat myself once in a while," she says.

As for her diet, Yasmin encourages eating

small meals every two hours that contain a

combination of carbs and proteins. "We re-

cently discovered Quinoa, a carbohydrate

substitute high in fibre, which has worked

wonders for Deepika," she says.
