Two old guys talking. One said to the other: "My 85th birthdayyesterday. Wife gave me an SUV".Other guy: "Wow, that's amazing! Imagine, an SUV!What a great gift!"First guy: "Yup. Socks, Underwear and Viagra!"

A dog lover, whose dog was a female and "in heat',agreed to look after her neighbor`s male dog while theneighbors were on vacation. She had a large house andbelieved that she could keep the two dogs apart. However, as she was drifting off to sleep she heardawful howling and moaning sounds, rushed downstairsand found the dogs locked together, in obvious painand unable to disengage, as so frequently happenswhen dogs mate. Unable to separate them, andperplexed as to what to do next, although it was late, she called the vet, who answered in a very grumpyvoice.Having explained the problem to him, the vet said,"Hang up the phone and place it down alongside thedogs. I will then call you back and the noise of theringing will make the male lose his erection and he willbe able to withdraw.""Do you think that will work?" she asked."It just worked on me," he replied.

The pastor asked if anyone in the congregationwould like to express praise for answered prayers.Suzy Smith stood and walked to the podium. She said, "I have a praise report. Two months ago,my husband, Tom had a terrible bike accident andhis scrotum was completely crushed. The pain wasexcruciating and the doctors didn't know if theycould help him."You could hear a muffled gasp from the men in thecongregation as they imagined the pain that poorTom must have experienced."Tom was unable to hold me or the children" shewent on, "and every move caused him terrible pain.We prayed as the doctors performed a delicateoperation, and it turned out they were able topiece together the crushed remnants of Tom'sscrotum, and wrap wire around it to hold it inplace."Again, the men in the congregation squirmeduncomfortably as they imagined the horriblesurgery performed on Tom."Now" she announced in a quivering voice, "thankthe Lord, Tom is out of hospital and the doctorssay that with time his scrotum should recovercompletely."All the men sighed with unified relief. The pastorrose and tentatively asked if anyone else hadsomething to say.A man stood up and walked slowly to the podium. He said, "I'm Tom Smith."The entire congregation held their breath."I just want to tell my wife the word is sternum."

I have been in many places, but I've never been inCahoots. Apparently, you can't go alone. You haveto be in Cahoots with someone.I've also never been in Cognito. I hear no onerecognizes you there.I have, however, been in Sane. They don't have anairport; you have to be driven there. I have madeseveral trips there, thanks to my children, friends, family and work.I would like to go to Conclusions, but you have tojump, and I'm not too much on physical activityanymore.I have also been in Doubt. That is a sad place togo, and I try not to visit there too often.I've been in Flexible, but only when it was veryimportant to stand firm.Sometimes I'm in Capable, and I go there moreoften as I'm getting older. One of my favorite places to be is in Suspense! Itreally gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up theold heart! At my age I need all the stimuli I canget!I may have been in Continent, and I don'tremember what country I was in. It's an agething. They tell me it is very wet and damp there.

CM’S DEFINITELY NOT THE NEWS!Because rumour, gossip, hearsay and anecdotes are just sooo much more fun!

Welcome to a new feature we’re going to test drive! It’s basically going to be tidbits about life here on theNorth Coast. Things that affect us. Things that amuse us. Things that annoy us. None of it is hard corejournalism. It’s what we’ve heard, seen and experienced. Feel free to email us [email protected] with updates, clarifications, corrections or whatever. And keep in mind - we are not claiming that this is the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth! It’sjust a glimpse of what’s happening and sometimes a bit of fun! Don’t take it too seriously!

COSTAMBAR STILL GETTING TRASHED!Well the new garbage bills came this month! Youmight be thinking ‘yippee’! Something got resolved inrecord time! Alas our bills are still at least twice asmuch as other communities are being charged. Beforethe new bills were delivered a notice was circulatedby ‘Fellow Residents of Costambar’ saying that normalrates should be between RD$200-250 for a house andRD$150-175 for an apartment. CM has confirmed thisby having our crack investigative reporter look at thebill of a friend in Puerto Plata. Yep, we go the distancefor you people! APC has said they were silentlyworking on our behalf behind the scenes and thatpeople should present themselves at theayuntamiento office and make a complaint. There arealso complaints that some areas are not gettinggarbage pick up anymore and of course, this being theDR they no longer seem to be on a reliable scheduleof days and times! One step forward….

FEELING POWERLESS?Well you have good reason! We had a really roughmonth power-wise in May. Partly due to a problemwith our lines etc that took a while to fix - and whenwe say a while we mean days! A lot of backup systemswent down! And our regular outtages still happenwith no regard to the posted schedule so you’d haveto be a psychic to predict when you could do laundryor take a hot shower! The Edenorte websitecalculates that in April we had power supplied only67% of the time. May’s numbers should beinteresting! Our only saving graces this month wereDominican Mother’s Day and the Corpus Cristi holidaywhen power was on almost all day!

GOOD TO KNOWThis tip stems from experiencing a recent medicalissue late at night and having no workingtransportation. Not really knowing how to get anambulance and concerned about the wait time wedecided to just call Costambar Taxi. We made it clearthat we needed to get to the hospital and it was anemergency. Before we could even get out of thehouse the taxi was there and the driver totally helpfuland concerned. He got us to the hospital quickly butsafely and was even willing to wait for us if wewanted. We’ve had our issues over the years with thelocal taxis but in this instance they were completelyefficient and professional and there wasn’t even anysquabble over the fare! Kudos where they are due!Keep in mind this tip is anecdotal in nature and youmust assess your own situation accordingly. This isjust another option.

CM FAQDo you really do all your own printing?Yes indeed we do! Well, unless we have equipmentfailure. Each copy is specially printed just for you! Andcollated and stapled and folded! This not only helps tokeep our advertising rates the lowest around butallows us a certain level of control - something youoften feel you don’t have when you live in the D.R.! Soif your staple wasn’t centered or your pages weren’tquite lined up or your copy was folded a little crookedgo easy on us and just think of it as the special littlequirks that come with a handmade gift that waslovingly made for each and everyone of you!

RUMOUR HAS IT!The current scuttlebutt on the road and building construction behind Yenny’s Supermercado is that it will beused as a (VIP?) heliport! CM will send out its crack team of investigative reporters to dig further into this andlet you all know more in the next issue! Oh, the anticipation….

A professor of mathematics sent an email to hiswife. It read:"Dear wife, You must realize that you are 54 yearsold and I have certain needs which you are nolonger able to satisfy. I am otherwise happy withyou as a wife, and I sincerely hope you will not behurt or offended to learn that by the time youreceive this letter, I will be at the Grand Hotel withmy 18-year-old teaching assistant. I'll be homebefore midnight. - Your Husband"

When he arrived at the hotel, there was a letterwaiting for him that read as follows:

"Dear Husband. You too are 54 years old, and bythe time you receive this, I will be at theBreakwater Hotel with the 18-year-old pool boy.Being the brilliant mathematician that you are,you can easily appreciate the fact that 18 goesinto 54 a lot more times than 54 goes into 18.Don't wait up."

A minister decided that a visualdemonstration would add emphasisto his Sunday sermon.Four worms were placed into fourseparate jars. The first worm wasput into a container of alcohol. Thesecond worm was put into acontainer of cigarette smoke. Thethird worm was put into a containerof chocolate syrup. The fourthworm was put into a container ofgood clean soil.At the conclusion of the sermon, theMinister reported the followingresults:The first worm in alcohol…dead .The second worm in cigarettesmoke…dead .Third worm in chocolate syrup…dead.Fourth worm in good clean soil . . .Alive …So the Minister asked thecongregation, "What did you learnfrom this demonstration?"An old woman was sitting in theback, quickly raised her hand andsaid "As long as you drink, smokeand eat chocolate, you won't haveworms!"That pretty much ended the service!
