BACKGROUND
Flaxmere/City Assist
Since 2005 the Flaxmere community has gone from strength to strength and more people are wanting to build on the successes achieved.
There have been two previous versions of the Flaxmere community plan. These have helped guide the development of Flaxmere Park, through the installation of a Splash Pad and other activities. The need to upgrade the Community Centre was also identified in previous plans.
Other recent initiatives included the establishment of community patrols, introduction of a liquor ban, the employment of additional police officers and the installation of the permanent stage in the park.
Other successes over the past few years include the painting of murals, upgrades to playgrounds, the development of a ki-o-rahi field, the introduction of the Flaxmere Drivers Licence Programme and the establishment of youth programmes, cooking classes, parenting programmes, performance arts workshops, girls programmes and community clean up days.
Flaxmere Library has been instrumental in establishing many different programmes for the whole community.
Annual events include the Flaxmere Family Fun Day, Matariki, Christmas in the Park, Flaxmere Challenge and Baysifica festival.
