Come and explore our unique tropical haven of wonderful plants and animals situated in the heart of the city. From insects, reptiles, fish and monkeys to banana plants, pineapple plants, prickly cacti and giant bamboo – Plantasia has it all, and is perfect for that unique family day out, no matter what the weather!
PlantsBoth our tropical and arid
climate zones house a fabulous range of unusual plants from around
the world. As well as exotic fruits discover how other luxurious food is grown, with
amongst others cocoa, vanilla and coffee all on display. It’s not just food - learn where perfume, rubber, panama hats and soap get their roots from – literally! There are
also beautiful flowers and unique desert plants such as the century plant which
blooms every 100 years and provides the ingredients
for tequila.
AnimalsYou can also get up close
to some amazing animals. Our endangered cotton-top tamarin monkeys are a real sight, each with
their own unique ‘hair-do’. If you’re brave enough you can also get up close to a Burmese python, iguanas, chameleon,
bearded dragon and tarantula. We also have plenty of creepy crawly insects
and an aquarium containing various species of fish including the feared
piranha (although these are in a tank on their own!).
Gift Shop & Coffee Shop
Once you manage to tear yourself away from the beautiful
plants and animals, why not relax in our friendly coffee shop? We serve a
wide range of food & drink that includes 37 flavours of hot chocolate and cakes to delight. You can also browse around our fabulous gift shop for a perfect memento of your visit including books, jewellery,

the National Curriculum.
Visit the set of Doctor Who
Our lovely animals were in for a real treat earlier this year when they
took part in some ‘time travel’. The usually tranquil hothouse was transformed into
a futuristic hub, from which a whole planet could be terra-formed! That was the scene for ‘The Doctor’s Daughter’ episode of the BBC’s popular 4th series of Doctor Who, when the
Doctor ends a war between the humans and scary fish monsters! The cast enjoyed their visit and met some
of our friendly animals.
How’s the weather?
Our amazing plants have also provided the
perfect backdrop for national TV weather broadcasts with
presenters wandering through the hothouse where it’s
summer time all year round.
