Unsure about marriage nowONE THING actor Derek Ramsayhas mixed feelings about wassettling down at this point withlongtime girlfriend, actress An-gelica Panganiban, he told theINQUIRER during the press confer-ence for his latest movie Cora-zon: Ang Unang Aswang.

He elaborated: “Angel i sready, but she’s at the peak ofher career. I guess we’ll know ina year or two. She has a lot ofprojects lined up this year. I’mready, too—I don’t think there’sa ‘right’ age for it—we’ll justhave to wait and see.”

He denied that Angel andErich Gonzalez, his costar inCorazon, had a rift last year, while filming was ongoing. An-gel reportedly got jealous whenDerek introduced Erich to hismom, Remedios . “My moma s k e d i f s h e c o u l d m e e tErich—mom’s a fan—so I set itup,” Derek said. “I would haveknown if Angel and Erich hadfought because Angel and I talkabout everything. She even visit-ed us on the set twice.”

Ramsay, who is reportedlybeing wooed to transfer to TV5,also said he was “open to careerchanges,” now that his contractwith ABS-CBN has expired.

But the actor said he was stillwaiting for a renewal offer fromhis home network before mak-ing a decision. He said he metrecently with Kapamilya execu-tives Gabby Lopez, Charo San-tos-Concio, Cory Vidanes andMalou Santos. “They told me tomake a wish list, but I’m not thetype to make demands . I ’drather the of fer came fromthem. I want to know what theirplans are. They’re like family tome,” Derek told the INQUIRER.

Derek added: “It was nice ofthem to ask to meet my dad.The first thing laid on the tablewas that, this wasn’t about mon-ey. I guess I have proven thatwith the number of years I havebeen with ABS-CBN.”

Is moving to another channelan option? “I have always beenopen to career changes,” Derekreplied. “But there is no firmproposal from TV5.”

Derek explained that the ru-mored transfer could be the re-sult of his being vocal aboutwanting to get involved with thereality program, Amazing Race, which TV5 is airing soon. “Iwanted to be in it,” he said, “notas host, but as a contestant.”

He denied talk that his par-ents recently met with TV5 chairManny Pangi l inan in HongKong. That was pure assump-tion, he stressed. “My dad does alot of work for Channel 5, Smartand PLDT—in security and elec-tronics.” Marinel R. Cruz

Rhian: Work is therapyson, son of Sen. Panfilo Lacson.“I apologize to KC and Jeric ...who were dragged into the in-trigues. I feel especially bad forJeric, who is not from show biz.I met him through Maxene (Ma-galona). We went out as agroup, but he was singled out.”

Rhian remained upbeat, evenwhen talk turned to the resigna-tion of aunt Ida Ramos-Henaresas head of GMA Artist Center. “Iam glad because she will havemore time for her family...Sheseems to be happier now.”

At the same time, Rhian is re-lieved. “I hope the intrigues stop. That people say I get projectsonly because of my aunt’s influ-ence. I also work hard naman.”

After Kontrabida Girl, a newsoap is in the works for Rhian.

By Bayani San Diego Jr.

UNSURPRISINGLY, work was “cathartic” for GMA 7 ac-tress Rhian Ramos, who figured in one of the mostshocking scandals last year after breaking up with ra-dio-TV personality Mo Twister.

She took a “leave” of threemonths, before facing the cam-eras again for the GMA Filmsromantic-comedy My KontrabidaGirl, which opened in theatersyesterday.

“I play someone vengeful, which is far from the real me,”she told INQUIRER. “I ended upusing what I was going through[in real life]. In a way, it wastherapeutic.”

She explained that her roleas a villainess allowed her toact out her frustrations withinthe safe confines of a movie set.

She described the controversyas “worse than boot camp,” butone that pushed her to grow up.Her relationship with her familyhas vastly improved, she related, particularly with her mom, whosurvived a cancer scare last year.My parents and sister saw methrough the worst crisis in mylife. I realized that my familywould always be there for me.”

Her job is her solace. “Workis my happiness. It was impor-

tant for me to do this film be-cause I wanted to prove to my-self that I could focus in spite ofwhat happened.”

Is she ready to love again?“No,” she remarked, then quicklybacktracked. “I do not want tosound as if I have been trauma-tized. Not all men can be thatmean. My friends, those whostood by me, are living proof thatthere is a lot of good in people.”

She denied rumors linkingher to KC Montero, or to any-one else—not even Jeric Lac-

OPM also stands for ‘Ogie, Pickup Man’THE COINCIDENCE is not loston singer Ogie Alcasid, who iscurrently president of the Or-ganisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-Aawit (OPM). These days, all hisprojects (and efforts) seemgeared toward the promotion oflocal music and musicians.

Even Boy Pickup, the wildlypopular segment on the GMA 7gag show Bubble Gang whichwill soon become a movie (GMAFilms/Regal), is a vehicle for hismusic advocacy.

“We are preparing an originalsoundtrack for the Boy Pickupmovie,” he told the INQUIRER.

Collaborating with him onthe soundtrack are Filipino-American hip-hop group Q-Yorkand wife Regine Velasquez. “Wewill soon have a full Boy Pickupfashion line: caps, shoes, shirts, shorts, accessories. Exciting.”

“Kids love the bling-bling.Boy Pickup items are selling wellat Francis Magalona Clothing

Store outlets,” Ogie noted.Boy Pickup, he related, traces

its roots to the hip-hop commu-nity. “[Bubble Gang costar]Michael V. and I are big fans ofFlipTop,” he confessed.

FlipTop videos—which fea-ture Filipino rappers engaged ina showdown a la modern balag-tasan—have gone viral. “Wew a t c h F l i p To p v i d e o s o nYouTube all the time,” Ogie ex-plained.

In creating Boy Pickup, hetried to imbibe the “FlipTopswagger and look”—with a littleof 50 Cent thrown in for goodmeasure.

Now, Boy Pickup has gone vi-ral as well—with its own loyalfollowing on YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook. Even Sen. MiriamDefensor-Santiago and otherpoliticians have been quotingBoy Pickup in their speeches.

“I never thought it wouldgrow this big,” Ogie quipped.

The Boy Pickup movie, which isdirected by Dominic Zapata, al-so features Pinoy rock legendJoey “Pepe” Smith.

“Pepe is my sensei. He is Yodato Boy’s Luke Skywalker,” Ogiesaid.

Ogie has another movie thisyear, I Do Bidoo Bidoo, which al-so pays tribute to local musicicons, the Apo Hiking Society.

Produced by Unitel and di-rected by Chris Martinez, I Do”gives Ogie and the cast (Zsa ZsaPadilla, Gary Valenciano, andEugene Domingo) an opportuni-ty to revisit the Apo songbook.

With the help of other musicartists like Jett Pangan of TheDawn, Ogie has put together aproject dubbed opm2go — anonline music store that makeslocal songs available for down-loading at P10 and P15 a pop.“Fifty percent of the revenues ofevery song will go to the artist,”Ogie said.

It’s not farfetchedna magkasakitan inthe near future, ka-pag ang player na
