about our retreat

Each spring members of the WCSPP

community gather to listen, learn,

and enjoy each other’s company in

a weekend retreat that replenishes

our professional selves. Please join

us this April 4 – 6 at the beautiful

Dolce Hotel and Conference Cen-

ter, a luxurious resort setting sur-

rounded by 66 wooded acres of

countryside only 15 minutes by car

from Stamford and 45 minutes from

New York City.

Our topic for 2014 is Time, a fitting

theme for the year we celebrate

our Institute’s 40th anniversary. Don-

nel Stern will share his remarkable

paper, “Witnessing Across Time: Ac-

cessing The Present From The Past

and The Past From The Present.”

Along with our discussant Neil

Skolnick, we will have an opportuni-

ty to delve into the interplay be-

tween Past, Present, and Future in

psychoanalysis, in our professional

development, and in all facets of

our lives.

We will also gather together to ex-

plore our myriad relationships with

Time through music, meditation,

film, and dreamwork. Of course,

spending time with one another,

setting aside a weekend from our

usual routines and obligations, is es-

sential to gaining fresh perspec-

tives, and so we encourage you to

reflect and relax. Spend your time

as you wish: Explore Dolce’s wood-

ed trails, reconnect with colleagues

and friends, swim in the indoor pool,

or luxuriate in the sauna following a

workout in the resort’s superb fitness

center or racquetball and basket-

ball courts.

Dr. Stern is Training and Supervising Analyst and member of the Faculty, at the William Alanson White Institue in New York City; and Faculty and Supervisor at the NYU Postdoctoral

Program in Psy-c h o a n a l y s i s and Psycho-therapy. He is the Editor of a book series at Routledge, Psy-choanalysis in a New Key, which has 12 volumes in print and an-other half doz-en in various stages of prep-aration. He is the former Edi-

tor-in-Chief of Contemporary Psy-choanalysis. He is the author of Un-formulated Experience: From Dissoci-ation to Imagination in Psychoanaly-sis, published by The Analytic Press in 1997, and Partners in Thought: Work-ing with Unformulated Experience,

Dissociation, and Enactment, pub-lished by Routledge in 2010. He is the co-editor of The Handbook of Inter-personal Psychoanalysis and Pio-neers of Interpersonal Psychoanaly-sis, both published in 1995 by The An-alytic Press, and the author of nu-merous articles and book chapters. Currently he serves on the Editorial Boards of Psychoanalytic Dialogues, Psychoanalytic Inquiry, Psychoana-lytic Psychology, and the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Associ-ation. In 2005, he received the First Biannual Award for Lifetime Achieve-ment in Psychoanalysis, presented by Section 5, Psychologist -Psychoanalyst Practitioners of the Di-vision of Psychoanalysis of the Ameri-can Psychological Association. He is in private practice in New York.

Dr. Skolnick is a Clinical Associate Professor at the NYU Postdoctoral Program. He is a past Associate Pro-fessor of Clinical Psychology at the Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychol-ogy, Yeshiva University. He received his Psychoanalytic Certificate at NYU (1986), where he has been teaching and supervising for the Relational Track since 1990. He also teaches and supervises at a number of psy-choanalytic training programs both in NYC and regionally around the country (Kansas City, Minneapolis and Sacramento). His primary inter-ests are in object relations theory, both classical and contemporary, Kleinian theory and contemporary relational theory. He has numerous publications and presentations, in-cluding co-editor, Relational Per-spectives in Psychoanalysis and co-editor, Fairbairn: Then and Now. He is an Associate Editor at Psychoanalyt-ic Dialogues: A Journal of Relational Perspectives and is on the editorial board of Relational Perspectives: A Journal of Integrative Psychoanaly-

sis. He is a member of the American Psychological Association, Div 39, and the International Association of Relational Psychoanalysis and Psy-chotherapy. Dr. Skolnick maintains a private practice in psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic psychotherapy and supervision in Manhattan.

A Fort Lauderdale native, Parker came to New York in 1999 to at-tend the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. He spent two years with Maynard Ferguson and his Big Bop Nouveau Band, touring in the U.S. and abroad. Matt can be heard on the band’s M.F. Horn VI: Live at Ronnie Scott’s, as well as on recordings by Jesse Elder’s Foldersnacks, Hess Is More, Reggie Quinerly, and Greg Garing. He performs regularly with the Candy Shop Boys and the 2s & 4s, which he co-leads with Julio Mon-terrey.

Dale Singer and Suzanne Burger will lead us through a series of short conversations with one another, with questions and prompts relating to our experience of time in our practices, our personal lives, and our histories at WCSPP.

Meditation Workshops

Join us as Mark Finn provides oppor-tunities to explore and discuss the subjective experience of time dur-ing two one-hour meditation work-shops.

After lunch on Saturday we return to the Amphitheater for three papers from members of our own communi-ty. Dale Singer, Nicholas Singman, and Wade Anderson will present pa-pers on time, inspired by Donnel Stern’s paper, “Witnessing Across Time: Accessing The Present From The Past and The Past From The Present.”

Sunday Dream Workshop

We end our weekend with a Dream Workshop led by Aviva Gitlin. Be part of one last group activity before re-turning home to reflect on our time together.
