This year marked the 50th Anniversary and historic milestone of the civil rights

movement, especially in public education. Many of us, no doubt, remember the iconic March on Washington, The Greensboro Four, second-class citizenship, segregated schools, and the struggle to achieve equity and equality in education. That’s why you must make plans to join us on October 3-5 in Greensboro. The 2013 Fall Retreat & Issues Forum will again focus on the legislative realities and challenges that public education must overcome to ensure a world class education for all students.

In keeping with this year’s theme, “Reclaiming Public Education: The Civil Rights Issue of Our Time,” we have organized an outstanding program of leaders and educators. With North Carolina at a crossroad, and no longer a national model for educa-tional progress, our challenge as school board members and stakeholders is to continue to advocate for transformative leadership, thoughtful governance and civic engagement.

This is your special invitation to join us for 2013 Fall Retreat & Issues Forum at NC A&T State University in Greensboro, NC. We are again pleased to have the Depart-ment of Leadership Studies as our co-host. Please send your Registration Form in today, or go to our website at www.nccbsbm.org.

Reminder...deadline for hotel reservation is September 19, 2013.
