Whatever is good and true, think about these things. Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Week of October 4, 2020 Listen to the Word (Philippians 4:6-9) As you hear the word proclaimed today, what admonition of Paul's catches your ear? What line of this reading touches your heart? Look into your life Question for children: What makes you feel peaceful inside? What makes you feel restless? Question for youth: What strategy will you follow as a young person to ensure that, as Paul says, you direct your thoughts to what is true, honest, pure and decent? Question for adults: What steps do you take each week to make sure you are doing as Paul directs: "Live according to what you have learned and accepted."? Activities for the week: Take these activities to further reflect:

-In today’s parable of the tenants, the landowner gives his

tenants a second chance. Have a family discussion about second

chances. At the end of the discussion, have each member write

down one anxiety that he or she is trying to relieve. To symbolize

their being given a second chance, have family members tear their

papers into little pieces and throw them away or burn the papers in

an appropriate place.

-Today’s parables teach about God’s justice. God’s justice

calls us to be caretakers of this world and all its gifts. Talk about the

importance of stewardship of the earth’s resources. Begin by taking

a walk or drive to look for signs of good stewardship and signs of

poor stewardship. Who is responsible for taking care of the earth’s

resources? What can we do as a family?

-This week go outside and plant some vegetables or just

pull some weeds around the house. You may know an elderly

person or someone in your neighborhood that could use some help

weeding and cleaning up his or her yard. While you are working in

the soil, thank God for the gifts of the earth.

-Imagine that your home is God’s vineyard. What are you

willing to do to help make God’s vineyard special? How will you

make sure everyone is welcome and treated with love and respect?

There will be a $50 prize for the winning essay at each grade level and a $25 prize for the second place essay at each grade level. The essay topic is: How trusting in God during a difficult time has helped you or someone you know find the strength and hope to endure it. Consider also sharing any lessons about faith and hope you, or someone you know, may have learned from this experience. The essay should be 500 to 750 words and should be typewritten. It may be written in English or Spanish. Registration forms are available from the Faith Formation Office or by contacting Jillian Guidry at [email protected]. Completed applications and attached essays should be returned to the Faith Formation Office by October 30th.

Changes are coming to St. Vincent de Paul conference at Our Lady of La Salette! Thanks to the financial generosity of our parishioners, our SVdP conference has been able to help many of our neighbors in need pay rent or utility bills, including during this difficult time. We are very grateful for your continued support of our mission! We have decided to close our food pantry and we will work with the larger food banks and pantries in our local area that provide food to our neighbors. We will now be focused on assisting our clients in meeting their financial needs and will continue to need your generous donations. We will no longer accept food donations through St. Vincent de Paul but encourage you to make your food donations directly to MUST Ministries or Never Alone Food Pantry. We greatly appreciate your donations which enable us to help others! May God continue to bless you! Gary Steele President, St Vincent de Paul conference, Our Lady of La Salette
