Sunday, July 17 — Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Gn 18:1 - 10a; Ps 15:2 - 5; Col 1:24 - 28; Lk 10:38 - 42 Abraham, the just and upright man, graciously hosts three visitors. As Mary and Martha host Jesus, he speaks of only one thing as necessary for us who follow him: being open to receive the message and person of Jesus, and being receptive to “the mystery of Christ” as he comes to us through one another. Monday, July 18 – Weekday of the Sixteenth Week in Ordinary Time (USA: Saint Camillus de Lellis, Priest) Mi 6:1 - 4, 6 - 8; Ps 50:5 - 6, 8 - 9, 16b - 17, 21, 23; Mt 12:38 - 42 Tuesday, July 19 – Weekday in Ordinary Time Mi 7:14 - 15, 18 - 20; Ps 85:2 - 8; Mt 12:46 - 50 Wednesday, July 20 – Weekday in Ordinary Time (Saint Apollinaris) Jer 1:1, 4 - 10; Ps 71:1 - 4a, 5 - 6b, 15, 17; Mt 13:1 - 9 Thursday, July 21 – Weekday in Ord. Time (Saint Lawrence of Brindisi) Jer 2:1 - 3, 7 - 8, 12 - 13; Ps 36:6 - 7b, 8 – 11; Mt 13:10 - 17 Friday, July 22 – Memorial of Saint Mary Magdalene Jer 3:14 - 17; (Ps) Jer 31:10 - 12d, 13; Jn 20:1 - 2, 11 - 18 Saturday, July 23 – Weekday in Ordinary Time (Saint Bridget) Jer 7:1 - 11; Ps 84:3 - 6a, 8a, 11; Mt 13:24 - 30 Sunday, July 24 — Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Gn 18:20 - 32; Ps 138:1 - 3, 6 - 8; Col 2:12 - 14; Lk 11:1 - 13 In bargaining with God, Abraham demonstrates a real persistence in prayer. Jesus invites us to persist in prayer as well, to “ask... seek... knock.” May our prayer open us to God’s will, and so build up his strength within us. In baptism, we have died with Christ, and have been raised to life with him.

Hospitality —We welcome Jesus in our lives Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Week of July 17, 2016 Listen to the Word (Luke 10:38 — 42) What words or phrases strike you? What in this reading touches your heart? What lingers in your memory? Look into your life Question for children: Name a time when you shared what you had with a friend, or a classmate at school. Question for youth: Martha chose to serve, Mary chose to sit at Jesus' feet and listen to him. Of those two actions, service or pray-er, which do you feel more comfortable with? Why? Question for adults: The Gospel today invites us to serve and to be hospitable. When did you welcome Jesus into your home through the presence of a neighbor or a stranger? Activities for the week Take these activities to further reflect: In this Sunday’s Gospel story of Martha and Mary, Mary shows us how important it is to take the time to acknowledge the presence of God. When do you take time out to pray and listen to God? Imagine Jesus is coming to your home. Talk about how you would prepare and what you would plan to do while he is visiting. How would you make Jesus feel welcomed? Would you do things differently when he is visiting? Evaluate with your family; are you more like Martha or Mary? Do you do the jobs that are given you or do you feel as if you have to do more than other members of the family? Do the jobs you do include doing the work of the Lord? Think about how your family welcomes guests and make a list of what you do to make them feel welcome. Decide what else you may need to do to make them feel that they are being welcomed as you would welcome Christ.

Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Today’s readings speak of hospitality. Abraham, who cheerfully did for his guests all that desert hospitality required, was reward-ed with his heart’s desire – a son. Martha also busied herself with all the details of hospitality, but grudgingly and with com-plaint. Am I a cheerful or grudging giver?

Coming soon... ALPHA
Próximamente...
Alpha is the easiest program I have ever been associated with in the Church. It is an adventure in spirituality. In small faith groups, people meet to share a meal, and watch a short video that talks about Christ. Afterwards there are some questions that help each individual think about their personal relationship with Christ. There are no right or worng answers because each of us is in a different place in our rela-tionship with Christ. We learn from each other and grow in our individual journey.
What I love about Alpha is the fellowship with other Christians in a totally non-judgemental atmosphere. (Barbara Crosson, parishioner at OLOL)
