Listen to the Word (Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-11) As you hear this reading, what words or phrases strike you? What in this reading touches your heart? What image from Isaiah lingers in your memory? Look into your life Question for children: How do you experience God taking care of you, even in times of trouble? Question for youth: John went out to announce the good news of the Messiah’s coming. How can you be good news to your friends and family this week? Question for adults: When you hear Isaiah comfort the people by promising that God is like a shepherd who gathers the lambs into his arms, what is your response? Activities for the week: Take these activities to further reflect: -This Sunday’s readings call for change. What changes do you need to make in your life in order to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas? -Talk about how your Christmas giving reflects God’s care for creation, for the poor, for others. Support organizations that help impoverished families worldwide become more self-reliant, such as Heifer International and the Fair Trade Federation. For information see: www.heiferfoundation.org, www.fairtradefederation.org. -As a family discuss ways to prepare for God’s coming. Plan some way to bring God’s love at Christmas to someone who is less fortunate than your family. -Letter the words “Prepare the Way” on a sheet of poster-board. List on the paper ways your family can prepare for the coming of Christ. Talk about ways to prepare room in your life for God.

Pregunta para los adultos: Cuando escucha a Isaías consolar a su pueblo y asegurarles que Dios es como un pastor que toma en sus brazos a sus ovejas, ¿cuál es su respuesta? December 12th and 13th. Each ticket will be $1 or you can purchase 6 tickets for $5. We have 4 large baskets brimming with wine

Mary’s appearance to Juan Diego as one of his people is a powerful reminder that Mary—and the God who sent her—accept all peoples. In the context of the sometimes rude and cruel treatment of the Indians by the Spaniards, the apparition was a rebuke to the Spaniards and an event of vast significance for the indigenous population. While a number of them had converted before this incident, they now came in droves. According to a contemporary chronicler, nine million Indians became Catholic in a very short time. In these days when we hear so much about God’s preferential option for the poor, Our Lady of Guadalupe cries out to us that God’s love for and identification with the poor is an age-old truth that stems from the Gospel itself.
La aparición de María ante Juan Diego como uno de su pueblo es un poderoso recordatorio de que María, y el Dios que la envió, acepta a todos los pueblos. En el contexto del trato a veces rudo y cruel de los indios por parte de los españoles, la aparición fue una reprimenda para los españoles y un hecho de gran trascendencia para la población indígena. Si bien varios de ellos se habían convertido antes de este incidente, ahora llegaron en masa. Según un cronista contemporáneo, nueve millones de indios se hicieron católicos en muy poco tiempo. En estos días en que escuchamos tanto sobre la opción preferencial de Dios por los pobres, Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe nos grita que el amor de Dios y la identificación con los pobres es una verdad milenaria que emana del mismo Evangelio.
