Important NoticeTREE REMOVAL ON GABE ACQUIN DRIVE

Please be advised that the next phase of the housing development on Gabe Acquin Drive will be starting in March. In preparation of this, the land needs to be cleared and the trees removed. We would like to invite all band members the opportunity to clear the area of trees if they wish. The area to be cut will be ribboned off and a map of the area will be available at the band hall. Only the trees in the designated area are to be at this time. All trees in the designated area must be removed by February 14. After that date, machines will come in to do the clean up and any required excavation of the area. Please call John Paul at the band hall to leave your name and number if you intend to participate. If we have several people interested in cutting, we may have to assign specific areas to ensure safety for all those cutting. The cutting will commence on February 5th.

Culture Center Rental

Effective February 2014

Please be advised that effective February 2014 if you want to use the Culture Center you will be required to pay a deposit of $30.00; this deposit is required within 24 hours

of your booking the Culture Center or your booking will be cancelled.This new policy is the result of some people using the Culture Center and not doing their part in cleaning up after themselves. There will be a check list given to each

person when you book the center and it will be posted on the wall at the Culture Center. After you are finished using the center, you will need to contact security to have them

check to make sure the center is clean for the next person using it. A report will be given to the band office on the next business day and it will be determined if your

deposit will be returned or not. Should you have any questions, concerns or suggestions please contact the band office.Thank you for your attention on this matter.

Meeting For Seniors

There will be a Seniors/Elders Session on Tuesday February 11, 2014 at the Band Office, 3rd Floor board room starting at 9am; we will be having a short meeting to

discuss Wills & Estates, Health Services and Community Activities & Concerns. Also if you can bring along any old photos with you to go down memory lane and to share with the group. Lunch will be served as well, if you require a drive please contact the

SMFN Conserve Energy Contest

It is that time of year everyone, the energy contest will run from October 2013 to March 2014. Please try to conserve and maybe you will be the winner! We have monthly prizes and also a grand prize at the end of the contest.

This year, children can also get involved by sending in a helpful hint each month, or even get creative by drawing their hint

out (which we will showcase in the newsletter) and we will draw

one name for a prize for the children!

This is a good place to see what your child’s classroom is currently doing and a great way to communicate with your child’s teacher and any other staff at the school. CHSMES will continue to send home important notices should the need arise. You will also find this on our website!!. PROPER CLOTHING AND FOOTWEAR: Students continue to go outside for recess and lunch. Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather. We would prefer hats, mittens, snow pants, coats, and boots. It is also important that students have INDOOR FOOTWEAR, preferably sneakers. The winter brings in wet feet from outdoors making the floors wet at times. We also practice unannounced fire drills. Students who do not have on the proper footwear will not have time to put their boots on. Indoor footwear is also a must when participating in activities in the gym.

COLDS AND FLU: It is that time of year for the cold and flu. If a child should become ill during the school day, parents will be notified and the child will be sent home. Should your child be not feeling well prior to coming to school, please let your child stay home. It is better to be on the safe side and help prevent the spread of the cold germ.

CONTACT INFORMATION: If your contact information has changed such as home, cell and emergency contact. Please contact the school as soon as possible so that we may update this information. This is very important should an emergency occur.

Hi my name is Shasta Hitchcock (Paul), and I am a social work

student at St. Thomas University. I have lived in the community

my entire life (minus the few years that I went to school in

Ottawa). I have been lucky enough to get a placement for my

social work practicum here in my own community, at St. Mary’s

Child and Family Services. When this practicum is complete I

will graduate in June with my Bachelor of Social Work. I will

also be hosting a parents support group in the community in the

coming months.

I will be at the Health Center (452-2750) Monday to Thursday

from 8:30 to 4:30 for the next 5 months. I can also be reached

COOKING WITH KIDS - Rocketship wrap3-2-1 Blastoff ! What kid wouldn’t love a rocket ship going off into space for their lunch?

1 whole grain tortilla wrap2 baby carrots

3 slices of yellow bell pepper

1 Tablespoon of greek yogurtMayo

Turkey Breast (or other favorite lunch meat)

Assemble your turkey wrap by placing some mayo or miracle

whip,turkey breast and any other desired elements into tortilla. Roll as you would a burrito. Slice off one end completely so you have a straight bottom edge for your rocket. For the top of the rocket, slice your wrap into a point shape. Take a small portion of the tortilla you cut off and slice two thin triangles to place on the sides of your main wrap as shown above.Use the veggies to decorate the rocket and plate!

4 boneless skinless chicken breasts4 garlic cloves, minced4 tablespoons brown sugar1 tablespoon olive oiladditional herbs and spices, as desired

Preheat oven 450F, line cookie sheet with aluminum foil, spray with PAM.Saute garlic with oil

Remove from heat and stir in brown sugar. Add herbs as desired. Place

chicken on cookie sheet and cover with the garlic sugar sauce. Salt and pepper to taste.

Bake uncovered for 30 mins or until cooked.
