LCCPAAA is unique because we cover the entire Liberty county area, not just one dept.or city as most Alumni Association and work closely with all Liberty County's law enforcementagencies and extend assistance to other service organizations.

Sheriff Bobby Rader opened the meeting with an overview of the contributions to LibertyCounty made by the LCCPAAA. Total hours of service for 2014 is 2564 hours (321 mandays) or $74,356.00 provided/saved the County. This is excellent considering there are veryfew members at this time, with hopes for another academy soon in order to have manpower toassist more in the new year.

The programs included presentation by Gene Robinson, owner of RP Search Service, ofthe capabilities, computer programs, legal restrictions for flying, past case history and visuals. He presented an aerial demonstration of a helicopter drone and had fixed wing drones forviewing. Gene's wife, Angel, is an asset in reviewing and locating targets from drone photos andvideos. People passing on nearby roadways stopped to enjoy the flights.

Stephan Fasolino, Liberty County Sheriff's Office, presented a program in crimeinterdiction, discussing recent cases, how " bad guys" customize vehicles to hide contrabandand money. Both presenters were given NASA police challenge coins.

Every attendees was given a door prize as an appreciation for their travel to Libertyand participation. LCCPPAAA members, donated spectacular door prizes, including numerousgift baskets for men and women from Shirley Case, NASA police "challenge" coins fromDominic Harrison, local businesses provided items of natural foods/supplements, bakeryproducts for breakfast, local honey with pecans, folding chairs from the City of Liberty, T-shirtsand too many to list.

Attendees chose brochures they were interest in from the Liberty-Dayton Chamber ofCommerce, local businesses, events, sites and recreation, to encourage visits to Liberty-Daytonas a destination for entertainment and education.

Houston Citizen Police Academy Alumni AssociationSubmitted by Mike Weingart - HCPAAA

The Houston CPAAA was horsing around a lot in March. On March 6, membersparticipated as “protestors” in downtown Houston as the National Mounted Unit CommandersAssociation held it’s convention in Houston. The HPD Mounted Patrol went through a numberof scenarios as about 126 delegates from the U.S. and Canada observed.

During the HCPAAA’s March 19 meeting, Sgt. L.G. Wills presented a program on themounted patrol. She said the three objectives of the mounted patrol are crime, community andcrowds. “We focus a lot on crime,” the sergeant said. She said the mounted patrol made 8,000arrests in the downtown area last year. “We have a big problem with vagrants,” she said. The sergeant also described the mounted patrols sponsorship program. At the presenttime the department has 37 horses and two mules. “All are sponsored,” said Sgt. Wills, “andwe have a waiting list.” The sponsorship costs $5,000 annually. She said three of the horsesare sponsored by the Houston Texans. One of the horses, J. J. Watt, is about to retire, but hewill be replaced with another J. J. Watt. Another presenter at the meeting was 24-year old Katherine Richards who with herfriends organized a drive to raise funds for a horse sponsorship. The group raised $10,000 fora two-year sponsorship for Smash, a special needs horse who is deaf. Katherine and herfriends who all have special needs are Smash’s sponsors. They conducted various fund raisingprojects such as bake sales with one at Smashburger. In addition, they volunteer at themounted patrol and take care of Smash. Katherine’s parents, who attended the meeting, haveformed The Kim & Don Richards Family Foundation. The Kim and Don Richards FamilyFoundation is a nonprofit organization creating opportunities for persons with intellectualdisabilities. Founded in 2006. They believe there are no limitations when it comes to learningnew skills.  Exploring new ideas and opportunities can be challenging, but should never belimited to anyone. “Our daughter is a wonderful young woman, with intellectual disabilities.  Wenever thought about what she couldn’t do, but chose to look at her strengths and build on those. With the help of family and countless friends, she thrives in our society.”
