Albuquerque High > SPC held in Albuquerque April 25-26; 49 students participated > At our 16 January meeting Dr Stephen Keil, former director of the National Solar Observatory, spoke to members of the section about the new solar telescope that is being constructed on Mt Haleakala on Maui>Participated in the ‘Discover STEM Day for families on 8 February 2014 held at the National Museum of Nuclear Science and History>The Albuquerque section chose four award winners at the Central New Mexico Science & Engineering Research Challenge (Science Fair) for projects relating to the fields of Aeronautics and Astro-nautics

at each of four local high schools This is an annual award activity for the Section Students’ names will be engraved on plaques that will

remain at the school Each student will be given a check for $100 Awards will be given in May

Obtained last YP survey (2008) from Ryan Rudy. Reviewing survey for present day relevance before asking YP communications committee to augment

Region IV student paper competition in Albuquerque on 25-Apr-2014. Serving as a judge for oral presentations

• Houston Section is about to host it’s Annual Technical Symposium on 5/9/14 at NASA JSC Gilruth Center.• Expected participation is ~200 people from the

Concerns

• No major concerns – Still working on membership stabilization issues• We had a major AIAA rank upgrade campaign this Spring to ensure we

were recognizing qualified and well deserving members with the right “AIAA rank”

• Plan to make a presentation at RSAC on process improvements in membership upgrades
