Geography of the SoutheastRegion

• The southern part of the Southeast Region is near to the Gulf of Mexico. Like a bay a GULF is a large body of water that joins an ocean. It is partly surrounded by land.

• There are 12 states in the Southeast region. Many of them are next to the Atlantic Ocean.

• It´s a land of long, hot summers and mild winters. It has wide plains, rolling hills, and tall mountains.

• Hurricanes is a storm with very strong winds and heavy rain. Some hurricanes start over the gulf of mexico and the Atlantic Ocean

parts of the Coastal Plain. A Swamp is a place where the land is always wet, many animals like alligators live in the Swamps

Mississippi River• The Mississippi River

runs though the western plains of the region, It is the second-longest river in the United States. This river begins far north, in minnesota. It travels south 2,340 miles to the Gulf of Mexico

Coastal Areas:The southeast has two long coast lines:The Atlantic Ocean (eastern boundary). The gulf of Mexico (southern border)

The Coastal areas are: Maryland, Virginia, and the Carolinas

The coastal plain:It covers more than the half of the Southeast, it has.PeninsulaWetlandsSwamp: One of the largest swamps in US is Okefenokee.

Inland Areas.Inland Areas.The southeast has different features, there are hills, mountains, plateaus, plains, and a mighty river.The Appalachian Mountains run through the middle of the Southeast. The Mississippi River , which flows there, and often floods.

Climate:Climate:The Southeast is famous for its mild climate, it has a growing season, it is the time during which the weather is warm enough for plans to grow.

In winter, the Appalachian Mountains get plenty of snow, too. Hurricanes strike the Southeast almost every year between June and November.
