TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Brought before the Sanhedrin, the apostles give witness to Jesus Christ. (Acts 5:27‐32, 40b‐41).

Psalm — I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me (Psalm 30). Second Reading — In his vision John sees all in heaven and on earth give honor and glory to the one on the throne and to the Lamb (Revelation 5:11‐14). Gospel — Jesus appears to the disciples by the sea of Tiberias (John 21:1‐19 [1‐14]).

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

There is much to digest (literally) in today’s Gospel Reading from St. John. It reports the third time that Jesus appeared to His Apostles. The Lord appears on the shore of the Sea of Tiberias, which is another name by which the Sea of Galilee is known. It is early in the morning, and Peter and the others had been fishing unsuccessfully, and obviously were near to the shore, but at Jesus’ urging they cast their nets again and caught many fish, which they then brought to shore.

According to the Gospel Jesus had breakfast with them, and then He poses the question to Peter specifically, “Do you love me?” The exchange between the Lord and Peter is carefully narrated, as are Jesus’ responses. However, at the end of the Gospel Reading for today, Jesus says two simple words to Peter, “Follow Me.” Of course, these are the same two words with which we are familiar that Jesus used to call Peter and the others in the beginning.

We need to understand that these instructions from Jesus are not just for the Apostles but for us as well. How have we responded to that call? Our reaction does not have to be as dramatic as Peter’s and the others, who abandoned their lives and their livelihood and became total followers of Christ. However, we, too, need to find the strength and the commitment to follow the Lord. How we carry that out is our stewardship, how we live our lives.

REFLECIÓN DOMINICAL Hay mucho que digerir (literalmente) en Lectura del Evangelio de hoy de San Juan. Se informa de la tercera vez que Jesús se apareció a sus apóstoles. El Señor aparece en la orilla del mar de Tiberíades, que es otro nombre por el que es conocido el Mar de Galilea.Es temprano en la mañana, y Peter y los demás habían estado pescando sin éxito, y, obviamente, estaban cerca de la orilla, pero a Jesús instando a que echaron las redes de nuevo y tomó a muchos peces, que luego llevaron a la orilla.

De acuerdo con el Evangelio que Jesús tenía el desayuno con ellos, y luego se plantea la pregunta de Pedro específicamente, "¿Me amas?" El intercambio entre el Señor y Peter es cuidadosamente narrada, al igual que las respuestas de Jesús.Sin embargo, al final de la lectura del Evangelio de hoy, Jesús dice dos palabras simples a Pedro: "Sígueme." Por supuesto, estas son las mismas dos palabras con las que estamos familiarizados que Jesús utiliza para llamar a Pedro ya los otros miembros de la comenzando.

Tenemos que entender que estas instrucciones de Jesús no son sólo para los Apóstoles, sino también para nosotros. ¿Cómo hemos respondido a la llamada? Everyday Stewardship Love is dangerous. When you truly love someone, you are willing to sacrifice and go outside your normal boundaries of comfort. You never know what will be asked of you, but true love does not consider the cost of loving, it simply responds affirmatively to whatever the need.

When Jesus asks Peter several times about his love for him, he is clarifying that this is true love Peter has and not admiration or infatuation. This is because Peter's love of the Lord will end up costing him dearly. Love gives us life, but we also die somewhat when the source of that love suffers and passes away. But the good news of Jesus Christ is that those who love him will follow him in life, through death, and into a life that is eternal, even if before that heavenly banquet there will be many trials along the way.

The stewardship way of life demands of us a certain maturity of discipleship. Just as a child is not yet ready to be a parent, an immature disciple may not yet be ready to sacrifice regardless of the cost. So every day we are challenged and called to respond, sometimes even with little cost to ourselves. But each step, no matter how small, brings with it growth. We are grow‐ing not only in maturity, but in love as well.

When questioned, was Peter ready to accept the chal‐lenge regardless of the cost? His denial of Jesus after the arrest in the garden leads one to say no. But Peter grew wiser and more mature in faith, becoming the head of the church in Jerusalem and our first pope. If love can do this in Peter, what does love have in store for you? Be careful, because love that great is indeed dangerous.

St. James—St. Leo Catholic Community is under the pastoral care of the Eudist Fathers, or Congregation of Jesus and Mary. We owe our name to Saint John Eudes who founded the Congregation in France in 1643. The Eudists currently operate in 15 countries, most of which are in the developing world. Evangelization, mainly with the poor and the youth, is our primary purpose, as well as formation to ministry in the
