ANNOUNCING OURNEW SWIM LESSON PROGRAMThis summer, we’re launching a brand-new swim lesson program. This new child-centered curriculumwill help your child swim confidently at his or her own pace. All classes will focus on water safety, havingfun while learning, building character and increasing self-confidence. We’ll provide parents with helpfulresources and weekly feedback to help them be active participants in their child’s learning process.

SWIM STARTERS – PARENT/CHILD GROUP LESSONS(AGES 6 MONTHS TO 3 YEARS)

Close supervision is the best way to prevent drowning. Through thisprogram, parents and caregivers will learn how to supervise children inthe water, how to prevent accidents and how to plan for emergencies.This program also promotes water enrichment and aquatic readiness forchildren ages 6 months to 3 years of age. Classes in this phase include:A: Swim Starters: Water DiscoveryParents accompany children in this class, which introduces babies andparents to the aquatic environment through exploration that encouragesthem to enjoy themselves while learning about the water:

• To encourage developmentally appropriate expectations by parents ofbabies enrolled in water enrichment programs

• To introduce and emphasize basic aquatic safety to parents

• To provide a positive parent/child aquatic experience and anopportunity to build the parent/child relationship

• To provide parents and children the opportunity to share commonexperiences, socialize, and interact with one another

B: Swim Starters: Water ExplorationIn this class, parents are guided to work with their child to explore bodypositions, floating, blowing bubbles and fundamental safety and aquaticskills. The general goals of the program are:

• To encourage children to explore their aquatic environment and theirown skills with parents’ help

• To introduce basic water skills such as kicking, breath control, andbody control or balance

• To encourage children to make purposeful movement in the water andmovements in response to visual and verbal cues

• To have fun in the water using toys and floatation devices andinteracting with other children

• To emphasize basic aquatic safety to parents

• To provide a positive parent/child aquatic experience and anopportunity to build the parent/child relationship

SWIM BASICS FOR PRESCHOOLERSGROUP LESSONS (AGES 3-5)

Designed to meet the needs of preschoolers, these stages build upon afoundation of water safety and drowning prevention by teaching wateradjustment and swim-readiness skills through fun and creative activities.Classes in this phase include:

Level 1: Water AcclimationThe water acclimation class introduces swimmers to the pool andhelps them develop safe water habits. Children develop comfort withunderwater exploration and learn to safely exit in the event of falling intoa body of water. This stage lays the foundation that allows for the child’sfuture progress in swimming. The general goals of the program are:

• To encourage children to explore their aquatic environment and theirown skills with instructors’ help

• To teach basic aquatic and boating safety, and allow children to acceptsome of the responsibility for safe practices

Level 2: Water MovementIn this class, children are taught skills that focus on body position andcontrol, forward movement and directional change. This stage alsoreinforces how to safely exit in the event of falling into a body of water.The general goals of the class are:

• To encourage children to propel themselves and glide through & water

• To develop basic water safety skills in the form of jump, push, turn andgrab, and swim-float-swim

Level 3: Water StaminaIn this class, children focus on swimming longer distances and areintroduced to rotary breathing, integrated rotary breathing and integratedarm and leg action. In the event of falling into a body of water, childrenlearn how to swim to safety. The goals of the program include:

• To develop rotary movement with breathing in the form of side gliderecovery position

• To encourage forward movement on the front and back

• To practice safety techniques in deep water

SWIM BASICS FOR SCHOOL AGEGROUP LESSONS (AGES 5-12)

• To develop the front crawl, back crawl and butterfly strokes

• To practice safety techniques in deep water

Level 5: Stroke DevelopmentIn this class, students continue to work on their stroke techniqueand all major competitive strokes are introduced.The goals of the program include:

• To develop stamina in the front crawl and back crawl strokes

• To develop the breaststroke and butterfly strokes

• To build endurance techniques for deep-water safety

Level 6: Stroke MechanicsIn this class, students refine their stroke technique on all of themajor competitive strokes and learn about competitive swimming.The goals of the program include:

• To develop endurance in the competitive strokes

• To develop skills related to competitive swimming like racing startsand flip turns

• To enhance skills and build endurance in deep water

TEEN/ADULTFor teens and adults just learning to swim or wanting to build onexisting skills, this program gives adults and teens of all ability levelsthe opportunity to receive instruction tailored to their specific needs.

In addition, we also provide private swim lessons for those whoprefer individualized instruction.

PRESCHOOL ENRICHMENT & THE ARTSOur programs provide activities where children learn, explore, build apositive self-image and develop strong social and emotional relationships.The Y's programs encourage children to explore their creativity throughmulti-sensory experiences.

Little Dribblers Learn and explore the world of sports. The kids will betaught, through a hands-on approach, the differences between varioussports and the basics of each.

Seido Karate Youth 1 Mind, body, spirit. Practice in a safe, fun, challengingenvironment. Seido Juku karate, "the sincere way." Students developstrong and healthy bodies, improve coordination, flexibility and balance.They gain self-confidence, discipline, focus and karate etiquette, includingJapanese vocabulary. Youth 1: Students begin earning rank as they learn realtechniques specific to their level. Classes also involve kata-forms, obstaclecourses and partnering. Formal structure with a game-based learning model.
