WHERE CHILDREN LEARN,GROW AND THRIVE.At the Y, we regard each child as a unique individualwho needs to be understood, guided, encouraged andappreciated. At this early age, play is a child's mostimportant form of learning and development. We provideprograms and activities where children learn, explore,develop athletic skills, build a positive self-image and

develop social relationships with other children.

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS PACKAGESPremium Lessons (Ages 6-12) Design your own class. We'll work withyou to choose your time and day. Package includes 6 lessons, 40 minutesin length. Participants must be at comparable levels. Class size includes aminimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 participants.

Private Lessons (Ages 3+) This package includes 6 lessons that are30 minutes in length.

Semi-Private Lessons (Ages 3+) This package includes 6 lessons that are30 minutes in length. Participants must be at comparable levels. Minimum of2 participants. Note: we do not set up swim partners. Be sure to include thename of the person(s) that you are swimming with on your form.

PRESCHOOL/EARLY LEARNINGPreschool is an exciting time as children embark on new adventuresin the world of learning. Our parent/child swim lessons promote water enrichment andaquatic-readiness activities for children and their parents or othertrusted adults. In this program, the developmental experiences of eachchild are used to build the child's self-confidence in and out of the water.Parents learn from the instructor's example how to guide their childrenthrough positive reinforcement and appropriate praise.

There are four levels based on developmental abilities:

• Shrimp (6-8 months) Child can control their head and sitwith support from the hands.

• Kipper (9-12 months) Child can sit without hand support andstand with support from the hands.

• Inia (13-18 months) Child can stand without support and walkwith or without support or aid.

• Perch (19-36 months) Child can run and jump. Instructors are certifiedin the YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Program.

GROUP PRESCHOOLSWIM LESSONS (AGES 3-5)These programs offer children their first experience in the water withouta parent. Children are taught basic skills that are the building blocksof swimming, including water propulsion, floating, body awareness andindependence. They are also taught some general aquatic safety andpool games. Children will be taught with and without the use of variousinstructional flotation devices.

There are four levels based on developmental abilities:

• Pike (Beginner)• Eel (Intermediate)

Instructors are certified in the YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Program.

Level 1: Pike (Ages 3-5) The first level is for beginning swimmers.Swimmers should be able to listen to instructions and follow directions.Swimmers will learn the basic paddle stroke on the front, back and sides.They will also learn kicking skills and grow comfortable with putting theirface in the water.

Level 2: Eel (Ages 3-5) Swimmers will learn to jump into the water withoutassistance and float on their front and back for 20 seconds with or withoutan IFD. Swimmers will also learn to paddle on front, back and sides for 25yards with an IFD and 15 feet without. Prerequisites: For children whohave moved up from the Pike class, or who can swim by themselves andfloat on their front and back.

Level 3: Ray (Ages 3-5) Swimmers will learn to front and back float for 30seconds without an IFD; front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathingfor 25 yards with an IFD, and for 20 feet without. Swimmers will also learnfront symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing for 25 yards with an IFD,and for 20 feet without; do a side alternating paddle for 25 yards withan IFD and for 20 feet without; back alternating paddle for 25 yards withan IFD and for 20 feet without; and back symmetrical paddle for 25 yardswith an IFD and for 20 feet without. Prerequisites: To enter this level,swimmers should be able to jump in the water without assistance and floaton their front and back for 20 seconds with or without an IFD. Swimmersshould also be able to paddle on front, back and sides for 25 yards with anIFD and for 15 feet without.

Level 4: Starfish In this class swimmers will learn to do a standing dive,basic front crawl with rotary breathing for 25 yards, basic breaststroke for25 yards, backstroke for 25 yards, elementary backstroke for 25 yards,basic sidestroke for 25 yards and tread water for 1 minute. Prerequisites:To enter this level, swimmers should be able to front and back float for 30seconds without an IFD, front alternating paddle with rhythmic breathingfor 25 yards with an IFD and for 20 feet without. Swimmers also need to beable to front symmetrical paddle with rhythmic breathing for 25 yards withan IFD and for 20 feet without, do a side alternating paddle for 25 yardswith an IFD and for 20 feet without, back alternating paddle for 25 yardswith an IFD and for 20 feet without, and back symmetrical paddle for 25yards with an IFD and for 20 feet without.

KINDERGARTEN ENRICHMENTAND AFTER SCHOOL ADVENTURESDeveloping character and friendships in a safe and nurturingenvironment. The YMCA's before and after school programs are morethan just child care. They're enrichment programs designed to meet thedevelopmental needs of children with an emphasis on experiential learning,social and emotional development and the promotion of healthy living, allwhile providing a fun, safe and nurturing environment for children. In ourprograms, parents have peace of mind, knowing their child is in a supportiveenvironment focused on developing their true potential.

KINDERGARTEN ENRICHMENTIf you're looking for a fun-filled experience for your kindergartner thatprovides a balance of classroom and large motor activities, then the Y'sKindergarten Enrichment program is for you! Children will enjoy learningthrough academic-based activities such as arts and crafts, calendar time,sensory stations, dramatic play, group story time and much more. Studentswill also experience a wide variety of large motor skills that include swimlessons, tumbling, park adventures, ice skating, gym and open swim. The program also incorporates homework assistance timedaily. This club will beoffered to youth and teens ages 9-13 who are looking for poolfun outside of swim lessons.*Must be able to swim without a swim aid.

YOUTH SPORTS LEAGUESIn our leagues, athletes play equal time, with positive competition andfamily involvement. In addition to developing your child's athletic abilityand sportsmanship, our programs emphasize the Y's core values of Caring,Honesty, Respect and Responsibility. Come watch your child's skills andcharacter develop in one of our youth sports leagues featured below.

Travel Basketball League Players in grades 3-5 and 6-8 are invited tojoin us for tryouts for our summer travel basketball league. Practices willbe on Mondays or Wednesdays at the Elmhurst YMCA. Home games will beat the Elmhurst YMCA. Elmhurst teams will compete against surroundingChicagoland YMCAs. The league will run mid-June to mid-August. Furtherdetails to be announced.

Basketball Clinics: Your child will learn and develop the basic fundamentalsof basketball: dribbling, shooting, passing and team strategy.

Sport Fusion Clinics: Your child will learn the basic fundamentalsof several sports: basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer, floor hockey,badminton and pickle ball.

Sport Speed and Agility Clinics: Your athlete will learn how to developand increase their speed, balance, coordination, core stability, enduranceand overall athletic movement control. This class will focus on propertraining techniques and overall preparation for your athlete's upcomingseason/sport. (Great for pre-season and off-season training). This class isfor BEGINNERS and ADVANCED athletes, in ANY SPORT.

2016 SUMMER SESSIONSYOUTH & TEEN PROGRAMS

These programs follow the Y of the USA's guidelines for swim lessons, and focus on five main points: personal growth,personal safety, stroke development, water sports and games, and rescue. Classes maybe combined based on enrollment.

Level 1: Polliwog This is the beginning level for school age children and isappropriate for anyone new to the water or with little formal instruction.Children will learn kicking skills, the basic paddle stroke on their front, backand sides, and will become comfortable putting their face in the water.

Level 2: Guppy In the Guppy class, swimmers will learn to front andback float for 1 minute; front alternating paddle 25 yards with rhythmicbreathing, with and without an IFD; front symmetrical paddle 25 yards;back symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back alternating paddle 25 yards; sidealternating paddle 25 yards; and kneeling dive. Prerequisites: To enter thislevel, children should be able to front and back float for 30 seconds with orwithout an IFD; paddle 25 yards on their front, back and side with an IFDand 15 feet without an IFD; jump in without assistance; and be comfortablein deep water.

Level 3: Minnow In the Minnow class, swimmers will learn to do a standingdive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards; basic breaststroke25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke 25 yards; basicsidestroke 25 yards; and tread water for 1 minute. Prerequisites: To enterthis level, children should be able to front and back float for 1 minute; frontalternating paddle 25 yards with rhythmic breathing, with and without anIFD; front symmetrical paddle 25 yards; back symmetrical paddle 25 yards;back alternating paddle 25 yards; side alternating paddle 25 yards; andkneeling dive.

Level 4: Fish In the Fish class, swimmers will learn to tread water for 3minutes; swim 50 yards front crawl; swim 50 yards breaststroke with legalkick and arm pulls; swim 50 yards backstroke; swim 50 yards elementarybackstroke with a glide; swim 50 yards sidestroke with a scissor kick; andswim 15 yards butterfly. Prerequisites: To enter this level, children shouldbe able to do a standing dive; basic front crawl rotary breathing 25 yards;basic breaststroke 25 yards; backstroke 25 yards; elementary backstroke25 yards; basic sidestroke 25 yards; and tread water for 1 minute.

Level 6: Shark In the Shark class, swimmers will learn to take their ownheart rate; learn about open water and backyard pool safety; swim 100yards from crawl with flip turns; swim 100 yards breaststroke with pull-out; swim 50 yards inverted breaststroke; swim 100 yards backstrokewith dolphin kick and pullout; swim 50 yards over-arm sidestroke; swim25 yards butterfly with streamline; and swim 200 yards individual medley.Prerequisites: To enter this level, children should be able to do a flip turn;swim 100 yards front crawl with bilateral breathing; swim 100 yardsbreaststroke; swim 100 yards backstroke; swim 100 yards elementarybackstroke; swim 100 yards sidestroke alternating sides; swim 100 yardslifesaving sidestroke; and swim 15 yards butterfly.

Jr. Dolphin: This class helps develop stroke technique. It is a swim workoutfor the advanced swimmer who would like to continue with a swim programand are not currently interested in swim team, are contemplating joininga team or are currently on a swim team and would like to swim betweenseasons to stay conditioned. Must be able to swim all swim strokes for aminimum of 200 yards, do flip turns and tread water. Also includes watersports, games and a safety component.

MIDDLE SCHOOL &TEEN SPORTS LEAGUESTravel Basketball LeaguePlayers in grades 3-5 and 6-8 are invited to join us for tryouts forour summer travel basketball league. Practices will be on Mondays orWednesdays at the Elmhurst YMCA. Home games will be at the ElmhurstYMCA. Elmhurst teams will compete against surrounding ChicagolandYMCAs. Through videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you'lllearn teamwork, rescue and surveillance skills, First Aid and CPR/AED, andother skills you need to work as a professional lifeguard.
