THREE EQUALS ONE
It is a scene that I have witnessed countless times in my time as a priest. The parents present their beautiful child for baptism. The infant, dressed in a pristine white gown, is about to encounter the Trinity in a unique and beautiful way. I trace the sign of the cross on the baby’s forehead and invite the parents to do the same. This rite of baptism culminates in the pouring of water over the baby’s head, as I baptize this child in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. The Trinity dwells within us. We live this mystery every day of our earthly lives. In John, chapter 14, Jesus tells his disciples, “The Father and I are one.” He speaks about sending “another Counse-lor,” the Holy Spirit, who will speak to their hearts. God continually reveals Himself to us as one God, who exists in three distinct per-sons. This weekend, we celebrate the Trinity. We are constantly invok-ing the Trinity in the many practices of our Catholic faith such as in the Mass, when we sign ourselves in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The priest greets us with an invocation taken di-rectly from scripture, “May the grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you.” In the final lines of the last chapter of Matthew’s gospel, we read that the disciples were commended: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” Jesus called his disciples to go out and bring people into this com-munion of love, called the Trinity. He reminded them that he would never leave them. Do you and I believe what Jesus said? Our life in Christ is intimately connected to our baptism. The reality is that something special happened on that day. We became sons and daughters of a loving God, who made a way for the sin of our first parents to be wiped away. We were set free from original sin, welcomed into God’s family and given the gifts of the Holy Spirit to guide us on our earthly journey. God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit took hold of us on that important day. God never lets go of us! As disciples, we are called to bring others to Christ. Our daily en-counters may bring us more often into the presence of those who have strayed from the faith, as opposed to those who have never heard the Good News. Regardless, the grace of our baptism equips us to enter into our call to be disciples. We never know when or under what circumstances we will be called to testify to our faith, so we should always be prepared! God is all around us. He is present in our hearts, in the sacra-ments and in the created world. Today, we recall the great mys-tery of God as a Trinity of persons united in love. Each of us is united to heaven by the indwelling of the Holy Trinity. We are en-folded in a three-fold bond of love that surrounds us throughout our earthly life. Today as you dip your finger in the holy water or pray grace at a meal, remember the Trinity of love that is God! In the love of the Trinity,

Una escena que he presenciado innumerables veces en mi tiempo como sacerdote es cuando los padres presentan a su hermoso hijo para el bautismo. El bebé, vestido con un ropón blanco, está a punto de encontrarse con la Trinidad de una manera única y her-mosa. Trazo el signo de la cruz en la frente del bebé e invito a los padres a hacer lo mismo. Este rito del bautismo culmina con el derramamiento de agua sobre la cabeza del bebé, al bautizar a este niño en el nombre del Padre, y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo. La Trinidad mora dentro de nosotros. Vivimos este misterio cada día de nuestras vidas terrenales. En el capítulo 14 de San Juan, Jesús les dice a sus discípulos: "El Padre y yo somos uno". Habla acerca del envío de "otro Consejero", el Espíritu Santo, que habla-rá a sus corazones. Dios se revela continuamente a nosotros como un solo Dios, que existe en tres personas distintas. Este fin de semana, celebramos la Trinidad. Estamos constante-mente invocando a la Trinidad en las muchas prácticas de nuestra fe católica, como en la misa, cuando nos persignamos en el nom-bre del Padre, el Hijo y el Espíritu Santo. El sacerdote nos saluda con una invocación tomada directamente de las Escrituras: "Que la gracia de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, el amor de Padre y la comu-nión del Espíritu Santo estén con ustedes". En el evangelio de Mateo, leemos que los discípulos se les dio un mandato: "Id, pues, y haced discípulos a todas las naciones, bautizándolos en el nombre del Padre, y del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo, enseñándoles a observar todo lo que te he mandado. Y he aquí, estoy contigo siempre, hasta el final de la era ". Jesús llamó a sus discípulos a salir y traer personas a esta comunión de amor, llamada la Trinidad. Les recordó que nunca los dejaría. ¿Tú y yo creemos lo que dijo Jesús? Nuestra vida en Cristo está íntimamente conectada con nuestro bautismo. La realidad es que algo especial sucedió ese día. Nos convertimos en hijos e hijas de un Dios amoroso, que abrió paso para que el pecado de nuestros primeros padres fuera borrado. Fuimos liberados del pecado original, recibimos la bienvenida en la familia de Dios y recibimos los dones del Espíritu Santo para guiar-nos en nuestro viaje terrenal. Dios el Padre, el Hijo y el Espíritu Santo nos abrazaron en ese día importante. Dios nunca nos deja ir! Como discípulos, estamos llamados a llevar a otros a Cristo. Nuestros encuentros diarios pueden llevarnos más a menudo a la presencia de aquellos que se han alejado de la fe, a diferencia de aquellos que nunca han escuchado la Buena Nueva. En cual-quier caso, la gracia de nuestro bautismo nos prepara para entrar en nuestro llamado a ser discípulos. ¡Nunca sabemos cuándo o bajo qué circunstancias seremos llamados a testificar de nuestra fe, por lo que siempre debemos estar preparados! Dios está a nuestro alrededor. Él está presente en nuestros co-razones, en los sacramentos y en el mundo creado. Hoy recorda-mos el gran misterio de Dios como una Trinidad de personas uni-das en el amor. Cada uno de nosotros está unido al cielo por la morada de la Santísima Trinidad. Estamos envueltos en un triple vínculo de amor que nos rodea a lo largo de nuestra vida terrenal. Hoy, mientras metes tu dedo en el agua bendita o das gracias en una comida, ¡recuerda la Trinidad de amor que es Dios! En el amor de la Trinidad,

2019 DIOCESAN APPEAL
The 2019-2020 Diocesan Appeal continues to move forward. We are so thankful for the commitment, cooperation and sacrifice of many of you. So far we have received $78,136.00 in pledges. Your pledge helps fund the ministries, services, and charitable works of Christ’s Church in our Diocese of Rockford. If you did not receive a personalized pledge form through the mail or they were not here the weekend that we did our presentation, there will be pledge envelopes at the entrance of church or in the Parish office. Thank you for your generous response to this year’s appeal. This Sunday’s Solemnity of the Holy Trinity, The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are a community of life and love and our parish community is built upon the life that follows from their unity. Thank you to the 315 families who made their pledges to the 2019 Diocesan Appeal. We are very thankful for your sacrifice, because you not only contributed to our Sunday envelopes, but were able to also pledge and give to the annual Diocesan Appeal.

THINKING ABOUT BECOMING CATHOLIC? God works in many different ways: sometimes through another person, something beautiful in nature, a song, an inspiring story. Sometimes God calls us through a crisis or a major life change. Sometimes we just have a feeling that something is missing in our lives. One part of the Catholic Church’s mission is to help people respond to God’s call. The RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) process is one way we do that. The RCIA classes begin in September. You may stop by the Parish Office to register.
Saint Joseph School The students are enjoying their summer break. The school office will remain open throughout the end of June from 9am to 12:00noon. Please call before stopping by just in case we are out running errands. Emails, phone and mail will be checked on a regular basis. The school faculty, staff and students would like to take this opportunity to thank all parishioners for your prayers and support of the school. You will continue to be in our prayers. Our preschool for the 2019/2020 school year is filling up . If you are interested in joining our early childhood community, please register as soon as possible.
