Invitation The VIth International Weed Science Congress (IWSC) will be held on June 17 to 22, 2012 at the New Century Grand Hotel in Hangzhou, China.

The International Weed Science Congress is a global platform for scientists involved in the science related to weeds and weed management, to disseminate new findings, advanced weed control technologies, modern equipment and other rele-vant scientific achievements. It also provides good opportuni-ties for scientists to establish collaborations.

A series of scientific sessions, symposia, workshops, special group meetings and a mid-conference field excursion will be organized. Social events and programs will also be arranged. Hangzhou is the Capital of Zhejiang Province, located on the low reaches of Qiantang River in the Yangtze Delta of south-east China, famous for its natural beauty and historical and cultural heritage, with a history of more than 2200 years. Its unique environment endowed by nature and the culture accu-mulation of several thousand years, has generated many world famous natural, historical and cultural sights. At the center of the city is West Lake, a World Heritage, covering 5.66 km2, encompassing the idyllic scenery, historical and cultural sites, and landscape. It is the symbol of Hangzhou and one of the most beautiful sights in China. After centuries of human influence, the region has become a marvelous com-bination of natural and man-made beauty. Hangzhou is also famous for its silk, which has been produced there for millen-nia. It is also the origin of Longjing Tea, the most distin-guished tea in China.

We cordially invite you to participate in the VIth International Weed Science Congress, and welcome you to visit the beauti-ful city! Baruch Rubin President of IWSS Chaoxian Zhang President of the Local Organizing Committee

About IWSS, WSSC-CSPP The International Weed Science Society (IWSS) was formed in 1975 by individuals from Europe, North America, South America, and the Asian-Pacific area, to deal with global weed science issues. The IWSS is a worldwide scientific organiza-tion, open to all who are interested in weeds and their control. The formation of IWSS was promoted actively by the six ex-isting regional weed science societies. The purpose of IWSS is to supplement and complement their vital role and to pro-vide a global forum for scientific discussion and collabora-tion. Additionally, IWSS provides benefits and functions of a weed science society not currently existing at a national or regional level.

The Society has held five highly successful international Weed Science Congresses; in Australia (1992), Denmark (1996), Bra-zil (2000), South Africa (2004), and Canada (2008). The 6th International Weed Science Congress will be held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, in collaboration with the Weed Sci-ence Society of China, CSPP (WSSC-CSPP).

The WSSC-CSPP, formed in 1981, is a non-profit profes-sional society dedicated to the study and understanding of weeds, and their impact on the agricultural landscape and to disseminate weed science knowledge across China. WSSC-CSPP members are dedicated to a proactive approach to is-sues related to weed management.

Theme of the Congress Climate change promotes the proliferation of new weed spe-cies and causes shifts in the composition of weed flora. The intensive use of herbicides in many world regions has lead to an increasing number of herbicide-resistant biotypes. These events have once again asserted that weeds are highly dy-namic and will adapt quickly to new conditions. Weed man-agement solutions, therefore, have to address an ever chang-ing scenario. Thus, the theme of the 6th International Weed Science Congress is “Dynamic weeds – diverse solutions”.
