Exporting In-Line Grading Comments from Grade Center Occasionally an instructor might need to export grading information from Grade Center to share electronically outside of Blackboard or to print a hard copy. This can be useful for using an exemplary paper from a previous student to show to future classes, allowing you to preserve your in-line grading comments and annotations to demonstrate why the paper received an exemplary score. Occasionally an instructor might need to export grading information from Grade Center to share electronically outside of Blackboard or to print a hard copy. This can be useful for using an exemplary paper from a previous student to show to future classes, allowing you to preserve your in-line grading comments and annotations to demonstrate why the paper received an exemplary score. There is a process you can follow that will allow an instructor to export an assignment, such as a paper, from Grade Center to a format that can be used outside of Blackboard.

1. Enter full Grade Center in your Blackboard course and view the attempt for the assignment that has your in-line grading comments that you want to export:

2. Once the assignment is open in Grade Center, this button will let you download a paper out of grade center with the in-line comments as an annotated PDF:

3. Select the link for Download annotated PDF. Downloading as an annotated PDF will allow the comments from grade center to be exported with the paper:

Because in-line grading is powered by Crocodoc it names all the files in such a way that Windows thinks they’re Word files even if they’re PDFs.  You will need to force Windows to open the file with Adobe Acrobat (or Acrobat Reader, or whatever PDF reader you use.)  If you open it in Word (the default) to be able to read the annotations correctly.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free program for opening PDF files and can be downloaded from the official Adobe website here: https://get.adobe.com/reader/

We recommend NOT selecting the optional offer to install McAffee Security Suite, you will need to uncheck that box NOT to download McAffee.

4. After this, the paper opens as a PDF with the pop-out annotations on the right side, just like in Word or Grade Center.  This PDF could be saved as-is and shared electronically as a common PDF file. If you would like to print a hard copy Adobe Acrobat Reader has a way to move the comments to separate pages, number them, and add them to the printed document.  Selecting Document and Markups and pressing the Summarize Comments button allows the annotations to be printed with the document.  Each page with annotations will get an additional page with all the comments:
