Fr. Ron is on vacation, returning home Thursday evening, June 16. Fr. Joe Holzhauser of Pierre has offered to be here for funerals. Fr. Don Glover, Maryknoll priest will preside June 11th and 12th. ************************** During the summer, we will move our weekly hour of Eucharistic Adoration from Sunday night to Wednesday: 7-8pm, beginning June 22. There are so many reasons to adore the Lord: petition, thanks, penance, simple love... Focus on one, and take time to pray ... Join in the Sat 18 June trip to St. Francis, SD, for the pilgrimage to the Holy Door in our part of Rapid City Diocese. Motivating words from Pope Francis' letter, proclaiming the year of mercy (#14): The practice of pilgrimage has a special place in the Holy Year, because it represents the journey each of us makes in this life. Life itself is a pilgrimage, and the hu-man being is a aviator, a pilgrim travelling along the road, making his way to the desired destination. Similarly, to reach the Holy Door in Rome or in any other place in the world, everyone, each according to his or her ability, will have to make a pilgrimage. This will be a sign that mercy is also a goal to reach and requires dedication and sacrifice. May pilgrimage be an impetus to conversion: by crossing the threshold of the Holy Door, we will find the strength to embrace God’s mercy and dedicate ourselves to being merciful with others as the Father has been with us. Next Sunday: Father’s Day is an important time to celebrate the role of fatherhood within the Christian family and is an ideal day for fathers to celebrate and honor their marriage vows. Annually sponsoring this event on the third Sunday of June Knights of Columbus and their wives — along with all the married couples of the parish — will have the opportunity to affirm their covenant of marriage. For a KC booklet on marriage, do a web search for "Matrimony - Luke Hart Series". Dear brothers and sisters, on your wedding day you joined your lives in an unbreakable bond through the Sacrament of Matrimony. I invite you now to join your right hands as we pray together for God’s continued grace and blessing upon your marriage. We pray together the Prayer to the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary and Joseph, in you we contemplate the splendor of true love; to you we turn with trust. Holy Family of Nazareth, grant that our families too may be places of com-munion and prayer, authentic schools of the Gospel and small domestic churches. Holy Family of Nazareth, may families never again experience vio-lence, rejection and division; may all who have been hurt or scandalized find ready comfort and healing. Holy Family of Nazareth, make us once more mindful of the sacredness and inviolability of the family, and its beauty in God’s plan. Jesus, Mary and Joseph, Graciously hear our prayer. Amen. (Prayer composed by Pope Francis –offered on the feast of the Holy Family, Dec. 29, 2013.)

Lord God and Creator, we bless and praise your name. In the beginning you made man and woman, so that they might enter a communion of life and love. You likewise blessed the union of these married couples, so that they might reflect the union of Christ with his Church. Look with kindness on them today. Amid the joys and struggles of their life you have preserved the union between them. Renew their marriage covenant. Increase your love in them and strengthen their bond of peace, so that sur-rounded by their children they may always rejoice in the gift of your bless-ing. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. May God the eternal Father keep you of one heart in love for one another that the peace of Christ may dwell in you and abide always in your home. Amen. May you be blessed in your children, have solace in your friends and enjoy true peace with everyone. Amen. May you be witnesses in the world to God’s charity, so that the afflicted and needy who have known your kindness may one day receive you thankfully into the eternal dwelling of God. Amen.

Biographical Sketch—Father Christian Hoecken, S.J.

The priest memorialized in the statue a block from church.

In the Missouri river, near Council Bluffs, on 21 June 1851, died Father Christian Hoecken, a martyr of charity. He was a native of North Brabant, and, having entered the Society in 1832, was assigned four years later to the Indian missions. The last fifteen years of his life were spent among all the dan-gers and privations of the desert. Father Hoecken, with Father DeSmet, were ascending the Missouri, 500 miles from St. Louis, when the cholera broke out among the passengers. Both the Fathers were laid low; each confessed to the other; and Father Hoecken never revived. He was forty-three years of age. The field of those missionary labors which Father Hoecken’s brethren continued in his spirit reached to the head-waters of the Missouri, 2,200 miles northwest from St. Louis, westward thence to Oregon, and southward 1,000 miles through the bare and trackless territories of Nebraska and Kansas, or amid the rivers, forests and ravines

of the Rocky Mountains. Menology of Society of Jesus, Province of Missouri, 1926

God Bless our Soldiers Heavenly Father, hold our troops in Your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in this our time of need. Please bless and heal

those who come back to us wounded in body or spirit and give them peace. I humbly ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, Amen.”

St. John the Evangelist Invites Children to

Cave Quest Vacation Bible School:

Following Jesus, the Light of the World!

Our summer kids’ event, Cave Quest VBS, will be

Monday, July 18th to Friday, July 22nd

here at St. John’s.

At Cave Quest, kids explore what it means to follow Jesus

through dark times. Kids participate in memorable

Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamwork-

building games, make and dig into yummy treats,

experience one-of-a-kind Bible adventures, collect Bible

Memory Buddies to remind them of Jesus’ love, and test out

Sciency-Fun Gizmos they’ll take home and play with all

summer long. Plus, kids will learn to look for evidence of

God all around them through something called God

Sightings. Each day concludes with a Cave Quest Closing

that gets everyone involved in living what they’ve learned.

Family members and friends are encouraged to join in daily

for this special time at 12:15pm.

Cave Quest is for ages 4 to age 11 (pre-K to 5th grade)

and will run 9:00AM to 12:30PM each day.

For information, keep checking the weekly church bulletin.

Prayer for Priests

You came from among us to be, for us, one who serves.

We thank you for ministering Christ to us

And helping us minister Christ to each other.

We are grateful

for drawing us together in worship, for visiting us in our homes,

for comforting us in sickness,

for showing us compassion,

for blessing our marriage,

for baptizing our children, for confirming us in our calling,

for supporting us in bereavement, for helping us to grow in faith,

for encouraging us to take the initiative, for helping the whole community realize

God's presence among us for the many gifts you bring to our community.

For our part, we pray that we may always be attentive to your needs

and never take you for granted.

You, like us, need friendship and

love, welcome and a sense of belonging, kind words and acts of thoughtfulness.

We pray, also, for the priests who have a wounded priesthood.

May we be willing to forgive

and may they be open to healing.

Let us support one another during times of crisis.

God our Father, we ask you to bless our

Priests and confirm them in their calling. Give them the gifts they need to respond

The Holy See has asked that we pray for the sanctification of priests. Please consider praying, in a particular way for our parish priest and all clergy of the Diocese in the coming days. The Congregation of the Clergy recommends two powerful methods for interceding for priests: offering a Holy Hour and praying the Rosary. Also pray the prayer above.

Father Ron’s anniversary to the priesthood

is this Friday, June 17th - 33 years!!!

Join him for 7:00 am Mass.

Give Father Ron a call, send a card or invite him to dinner

to let him know you appreciate all that he does

and that you keep him in your prayers.

We will need volunteers to help build, paint and set up the cave for the

kids vacation bible school.

We will start building and painting the end of June and

need lots of help!

If you would volunteer a few hours of your time please

call Josie/church office. 223-2176

Please join us National Rosary for Marriage planned for thousands of public locations all across America Saturday, June 25th at 12:00pm noon. We will gather at the statue a block down from the church at the corner of Main Ave and Hwy 83. We will pray the rosary, joining our voices with our Blessed Mother to the saving power of Jesus. Our culture’s redefinition of marriage degrades the dignity God has planted within us. We pray the rosary for marriage with others around our nation for God’s life to flourish within us.
