A Note from Fr. Sean, Grand Re-Opening

In the retail world, when a store undergoes a massive remodel or moves to a new location,

they often celebrate by staging a grand RE-opening to signal to shoppers that they are back in

operation, and that they are new and improved.

This weekend at Sacred Heart we are celebrating a re-opening of sorts. While we have been open from lockdown

since last May, we are entering a new phase of Covid awareness. This weekend all Covid restrictions have been lifted

by Bishop Doherty. While a few measures remain in place, we are back to what we knew as “normal,” or at least

some semblance of what we did in the “before-times.”

We also celebrated our patronal feast day this past Friday. Since the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart changes each

year due to its relationship to Pentecost, we have to move along with it, but since it does move it is providential that it

coincides with restrictions being lifted.

Last but certainly not least, this weekend we roll-out our pastoral plan! The long-awaited product of lots of hours of

consultation, meetings, feedback-seeking and prayer, our pastoral plan is the blueprint for the next three years here at

Sacred Heart.

You should have received a copy in the mail by now, but it might not have reached some people yet. It is a glossy

multi-page magazine-style brochure. It is bright yellow with the Uniting in Heart logo on it. You can’t miss it. If you

did by chance throw it away, we can hook you up with a copy.

Our pastoral plan is important because it lays out specific goals, with even more specific tasks. The purpose is to

guide us on the path toward becoming better evangelists, or toward evangelizing for the first time if this has not been

part of our faith journey. The plan is heavy on formation opportunities because it is important for us to be missionary

disciples before we can invite others into a life-long relationship with Christ and His Church.

Other parts of the plan focus on our community life here in the parish. We know that this community values time

together, that there are strong bonds of friendship and support. These are important ingredients for becoming a

disciple.

My hope, and the purpose of the plan, is to make sure that our parish culture is directed toward being a welcoming

place for all people, especially newcomers. There are no outsiders in this parish.

While it is exciting to emerge from restrictions, to roll out our plan and to celebrate, I also want to acknowledge

people who are still nervous about the virus. I realize that not everyone is ready to come back to Church just yet. I

want you to know that you still have a place here at Sacred Heart. If you have not had contact with the parish and you

wish for someone to reach out to you, please let us know. We don’t know what your needs are unless you tell us, so

please help us to help you.

Yours in Christ,
