Defrag your Hard Drive

a process that reduces the amount of fragmentation by physically organizing the contents of the hard drive, storing files into the smallest number of contiguous regions. It also creates larger regions of free space towards the end.

Find Defrag tool on your desktop by clicking on Start

Scroll up the list of Programs until you get to

Accessories and click on it

That will open up the Accessories folder listing many programs including the System Tools folder.

Click on it.

Find Disk Defragmenter within System Tools folder.

Click on it.

This window will display various internal drives including the key C drive that contains the majority of your software and operating system.

Click on the Configure Schedule button to view and alter the Defrag

Schedule window is displayed with a default time of Wednesday at 1 AM. Click on the down arrows to pick a day of the week and time that you are more likely to have the computer in use. If the PC is not on at that time,

it will run the next time the computer is on. Click on OK to close this window, saving your selection.

Now click on Defragment disk. No need to bother with the Analyze disk unless you are so interested.

The Defrag process will start and run it’s own analysis. Then it will begin Defragging the hard drive over many

Passes, moving segments of files around over a period of time, repacking the contents into a continuous flow.

After many Passes, the Defrag process will end and display a near 0% fragmentation. Click on Close to end this session.

In the future, the Defrag tool will run on its schedule.
