The souls of the righteous are in the hand of God,and no torment will ever touch them.In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died,and their departure was thought to be a disaster,and their going from us to be their destruction;but they are at peace.For though in the sight of others they were punished,their hope is full of immortality.Having been disciplined a little, they will receive great good,because God tested them and found them worthy of himself;like gold in the furnace he tried them,and like a sacrificial burnt offering he accepted them.In the time of their visitation they will shine forth,and will run like sparks through the stubble.They will govern nations and rule over peoples,and the Lord will reign over them forever.Those who trust in him will understand truth,and the faithful will abide with him in love,because grace and mercy are upon his holy ones,and he watches over his elect.

Dear People of God: In Holy Baptism we become part of that great fellowship ofbelievers in all times and places: the Communion of Saints. In baptism God hasadopted us as children and made us members of Christ’s body and inheritors ofGod’s kingdom with the saints in light. Let us now renew the vows of our baptism bywhich God has made us a holy people.

You gave the worldinto our care that we might be your faithful stewards and show forth your bountifulgrace. But we failed to honor your image in one another and in ourselves; we wouldnot see your goodness in the world around us; and so we violated your creation,abused one another, and rejected your love. Yet you never ceased to care for us, andprepared the way of salvation for all people. Through Abraham and Sarah you calledus into covenant with you. You delivered us from slavery, sustained us in thewilderness, and raised up prophets to renew your promise of salvation. Then, in thefullness of time, you sent your eternal Word, made mortal flesh in Jesus. Born intothe human family, and dwelling among us, he revealed your glory.
