All Saints Day Today the Church rejoices in all the holy men and women, saints of God, who have entered into their eternal reward in heaven. We call the body of saints “The Church Triumphant” because they are still members of the Body of Christ as they worship God forever in heaven.

These saints are powerful intercessors, because of their closeness to the Lord, for us here on earth. When we pray to the saints we do not pray to them as to God, but as the special friends of God. We ask the saints to intercede (put in a good word) for us as we labor here on earth to get where they are, in heaven.

On this day let us keep in mind that all the souls in heaven are saints, not only those officially can-onized, but also those souls who are unknown to us but in heaven nonetheless. Many of our ancestors are possibly in God’s presence for eternity and interceding for us without our knowledge. Let us give thanks to God for providing such powerful intercessors and models of the faith for us who are still here on earth. Let us also pray, “May we all see each other in heaven someday.” All Souls Day This Monday, November 2 is day the Church commemorates all the holy souls in purgatory, All Souls Day. It is the day to focus our prayers, Masses and intentions on the poor souls who are still being burnished in the purifying fire of purgatory. For us here at St. Odilo, it is like a patronal feast day as well. Besides being the National Shrine of the Poor Souls, our church’s patron saint is the founder of All Souls Day. Because of the indulgence attached to visiting our church/shrine, your prayers for your departed loved ones are even more efficacious. What a wonderful way to honor our loved ones who have gone be-fore us than to attend Mass and pray at St. Odilo Church. Masses will be offered for the souls in purgatory on Monday at 6:30 and 8:10 a.m. in English, 12:00 noon in Spanish and 6:30 p.m. in Latin. The 6:30 p.m . Latin Mass w ill feature Che-rubini’s Requiem music and the prayers for the faithful departed at the catafalque. Due to the ongoing COVID restrictions and protocols, those who wish to attend the 12:00 noon and 6:30 p.m. Masses must register in advance online at www.saintodilo.org by noon Sunday, Nov. 1st. Catholic Justice Congratulations to Justice Amy Coney Barrett for being elevated to the Supreme Court of the United States. Thanks be to God for His Providence in giving her to us for service on the highest court in our nation. I take this opportunity to celebrate Justice Coney Barrett’s appointment to the Court because she is a faithful, practicing Roman Catholic who embodies living one’s baptismal grace in the public sector in service to her fellow countrymen. With Justice Coney Barrett taking her seat on the bench, she becomes the sixth Roman Catholic of the nine justices currently serving on the Supreme Court. May God guide, govern and protect her as she continues to serve our nation, raise her family and, above all, honor God Almighty.

Día Todos los Santos Hoy la Iglesia se regocija en todos los hombres y mujeres santos, santos de Dios, que han entrado

en su recompensa eterna en el cielo. Llamamos al cuerpo de los santos “La Iglesia Triunfante” porque to-davía son miembros del Cuerpo de Cristo, ya que adoran a Dios para siempre en el cielo.

Estos santos son poderosos intercesores, debido a su cercanía al Señor, para nosotros aquí en la tierra. Al orar a los santos no oramos a ellos como a Dios, pero como los amigos especiales de Dios. Pedi-mos a los santos que intercedan por nosotros mientras trabajamos aquí en la tierra para llegar a donde están, en el cielo.

En este día tengamos en cuenta que todas las almas en el cielo son santos, no sólo aquellos oficial-mente canonizados, sino también aquellas almas que son desconocidas para nosotros, pero en el cielo. Muchos de nuestros antepasados están posiblemente en la presencia de Dios por la eternidad e interce-diendo por nosotros sin nuestro conocimiento. Este lunes, 2 de noviembre es el día en que la Iglesia conmemora a todas las almas benditas en el purgatorio, Día de Todos las Animas. Es el día para enfocar nuestras oraciones, misas e intenciones en las almas benditas que todavía están siendo bruñidas en el fuego purificador del purgatorio. Para noso-tros aquí en San Odilo, es como un día de fiesta patronal también. Además de ser el Santuario Nacional de las Almas Benditas, el santo patrón de nuestra Iglesia es el fundador del Día de Todas las Animas. De-bido a la indulgencia asociada a visitar nuestra Iglesia / Santuario, sus oraciones por sus seres queridos difuntos son aún más eficaces. Qué maravillosa manera de honrar a nuestros seres queridos que han ido antes que nosotros que asistir a Misa y orar en la Iglesia de San Odilo.

Se ofrecerán Misas para las almas en el purgatorio los lunes a las 6:30 y 8:10 a.m. en inglés, 12:00 p.m. al mediodía en español y 6:30 p.m. en latín. La Misa en Latín de las 6:30 p.m. contará con la música de Requiem de Cherubini y las oraciones por los fieles difuntos en el catafalco.
