Hi, I’m Lucas and I am a super sleek, super soft 1-year-old teenage boy. I was adopted quickly as a kitten and really loved
my family and they loved me too. We were so, so happy together but unfortunately they have something called “allergies”. It’s
breaking their hearts for me to go to a new home, but I can’t be
Bingo is a 3-year old neutered male American Bull Dog Mix who is up to date on his vacinnations and microchipped. He has a very
sunny disposition and enjoys playing with tennis balls and will keep you laughing with his funny antics! Here he is with Steve Caporizzo on Pet Connection! Bingo is a wonderful dog and is looking for someone that will understand his needs; he is deaf. Currently he is living in a home with several dogs (large and
small). If you saw Bingo playing with the dogs he lives with, you would find it hard to believe he is deaf. He is trained to go into his crate and also knows commands for sit down and come. This is all done with hand signals. He needs someone to love him and with
proper training he will continue to be the wonderful dog I know. If you are interested in learning more about Bingo, please call
Cathy at 518.424.2878

Clover is an 4-year-old gentle long-haired beauty. Clover is mi-crochipped and lived on her own for a full year after accidentally getting outside. When found by HOPE, scrawny and starved, her
elderly owner was unable to take her back; now she is looking for a new forever home. Clover is self-reliant: she enjoys affection but does not need constant attention. She likes to “see and be
seen”; always nearby but not underfoot! Clover loves interactive toys and will often roll over on her back while playing —especially
if she’s had a little catnip! Overall she is relatively mellow and easy going. Clover would make an excellent companion in a quieter home without children. All HOPE cats are spayed/neutered, up to date on their shots, and have tested negative for Feline Leukemia
and FIV.
responsible for so much sneezing. Here’s a few things you should know about me: tuna is yummy but I don’t like shrimp; the cat dancer is my favorite toy (check out all my moves); I’m great with
children and used to have two of them ages 4 and 6; I’m a champion (friendly) cat wrestler; water fascinates me and so do sunbeams. I like to be up high and I also love to crawl under the
covers! Are you ready for me? My bags are packed!

EAT. LIVE. SHOP LOCAL
Your Guide toIndependent
Business Owners
THINK. EAT. LIVE. SHOP LOCALTOP 10 REASONS TO SHOP LOCAL FIRST
1. Support Yourself: Studies have shown that when you buy from an independent, locally owned business, more of your money is used to make purchases from other local businesses, service providers and farms, thus strengthening the economic base of your community.
2. Keep Our Towns Unique: Where we shop, where we eat and where we have fun is what makes our community our home. One-of-a-kind businesses are an integral part of the character of our community. They’re a major reason why we’re here and why tourists visit our area.
3. Enhance Community Well-Being: Locally owned businesses build strong neighborhoods by sustaining communities, linking neighbors and contributing to local causes. Local ownership means that important decisions are made by people who live here and are accountable for their decisions.
4. Encourage Local Character and Prosperity: Business owners are your neighbors, families and friends. Most of them live here, shop here and send their children to school here. This makes them more invested in your community.
5. Keep Dollars in the Local Economy: Put your tax dollars to good use and see them in action. Of every $100 spent in locally owned independent stores, $68 remain in your community through taxes, payroll and other ex-penditures. An increase in local sales tax, means more funding for education, town projects and services, infrastructure and parks and recreation.
6. Sustain the Environment: Utilizing local resources reduces environmental impact by saving time and gas and reducing air and water pollution.
7. Support Your Community Organizations: Non-profi ts receive on average three times greater support from smaller, locally owned businesses than from larger organizations. Non-profi ts are a vital part of your community, improving the quality of life for everyone.
8. Receive Better Customer Service: Locals hire locals, who have a better understanding of the products they are selling and take the time to get to know their customers and their needs.
9. Promote Better Jobs and Wages: Small local businesses are the largest employer nationally and account for the majority of jobs. On average, they provide better wages and benefi ts.

Once you have an idea of what styles you prefer, the next step is to design a plan for the kitchen with all the elements in their proper places. John and Jamie Bergami, owners of the family-run, 40 year-old Homecrest Kitchens in Glenville, say an experienced kitchen designer can help plan an e cient, workable design that can t almost any pocketbook. “Everybody has a budget. Sometimes they bring a picture from a magazine, and they say, ‘ is is what I would like,’ but those pic-tures from the magazine can be very high end. And they’re surprised when they get the price of something like that,” Jamie Bergami said. However, he added, there are almost always more reasonable ver-sions of almost any product. e important thing is to get the design right. “And that’s where we can point them in the right direction,” he said. For example, many people now are looking for granite countertops, which can be very expensive. So to save money, they might be planning to keep their old cabinets and cover them with granite. is can be a serious mistake. “We’d rather see people spend more on the cabinets and less on the countertop, if it’s not in the budget, because you can always change the top later,” he said. “Once the countertop is on, it’s not easy to change the cabinets,” John Bergami said. “ ere’s a lot of nice laminate colors they’ve made in the last two years that have the look of granite, and they’re more a ordable,” he said.

The shorter, cooler days of late August and early September make it the ideal time to make permanent improvements to the condition of our lawn. In fact, turf experts agree that this is the best time of year to start a lawn from seed. If you have a new home that needs a lawn or you have bare areas that need new seed started, get right to it so the seeds will have a chance to sprout and get well established before the ground freezes. While this is the best season to tackle these projects, time is limited.
Starting a lawn from seed is one of the more challenging gardening tasks, mainly because of all the pre-seeding groundwork that should be done.
The fi rst step is to do a quick pH test on the area to see if the soil is acidic. If it is, apply enough pelletized lime to bring the soil back to neutral. The folks at your local garden center can help you fi gure this out. If you ignore this step and start seed in acidic soil, you’ll fi nd that the seeds will sprout nicely but the grass will struggle to survive and establish itself. Since starting a lawn from seed is so labor intensive, don’t ignore this step.
The next step in starting a lawn from seed is to turn organic matter into the area to be seeded. The more organic matter that is turned in, the thicker and more drought resistant the lawn will be for years to come. Peat moss is the easiest form of organic matter to use for improv-ing the soil before seeding. Peat moss is capable of holding 20 times its weight of water. In very sandy soil, the addition of one 4 cu. ft. bale of peat moss per every 100 sq. ft. turned in to a depth of 6” will be necessary. This sounds like a lot of peat moss (and it is) but it is well worth the effort.
For a large area, you should rent a roto-tiller to blend the peat moss and lime (if needed) into the soil to a depth of 6”. Once the soil and peat are blended together, the area should be raked smooth. This is easier to accomplish with one of those extra-wide aluminum rakes. If you can’t borrow one, a metal bow rake will do but it will take longer to get the contour you’re looking for. Next you’ll need to roll the soil with a water-fi lled roller to compact the soil. If you can’t borrow one, rent one. Again, if you skip this step, the project won’t come out as you’d hoped. After you’ve rolled the soil, take another look at the area to see if it is nice and smooth and has the proper contour. If not, rake and roll the area until you’re satisfi ed. You’ll be looking at the results for many years so take the time now to get it right.
Once you’re satisfi ed, lightly rough up the surface of the soil with your metal rake. Finally it’s time to broadcast the seed. Consult the folks at your local garden center to determine the best grass blend for your particular soil and light conditions. For late–summer seeding, avoid cheap blends that contain annual ryegrass. Broadcast the seed evenly over the area at the recommended rate. Then roll the seed with the water-fi lled roller to press it into good contact with the soil. If it is a large area, you’ll want to cover it with straw. A smaller area can be covered with burlap or horticultural fabric. The reason you cover the seed is to help keep the sun and wind from drying it out while it’s germinating.
After all this is done, you can start watering and watering and watering. This is the trickiest and most important part of the project. No matter how high the quality of the seed used, it won’t germinate unless the area is kept moist CONSTANTLY. It can’t be allowed to dry out, even for an hour. IF THE AREA DRIES COMPLETELY, THE SEED DIES AND CAN’T RESTART. Premium blends of fescue and bluegrass will take 2 weeks just to sprout so be diligent about watering and be patient. If you use a blend that has perennial ryegrass in ad-dition to bluegrass and fescue, be aware that the ryegrass will sprout a week or more earlier. Even after the ryegrass sprouts, continue watering as if nothing has happened to ensure the germination of the desirable fescue and bluegrass seeds.
After the young grass is up, apply a slow release winter or starter type of lawn food to stimu-late quick root growth. Look for a starter food with a higher middle number (phosphorus). When the grass fi nally grows to 4”, mow off an inch (and no more) to promote even more root growth. In spring, apply another shot of the starter lawn food to insure that the young grass develops a mature root system before summer heats up. Thanks for the read.

Choosing what to include and exclude from your resume can be diffi cult, especially for applicants without extensive work histo-ries. Professionals with signifi cant experience likely have enough to fi ll up a resume, but younger professionals often fret about how to fi ll up their resumes despite limited work histories. Any relevant professional experience, be it an internship or volun-teering history, is safe to include on a resume. But applicants should keep the following items off their resumes as they hunt for their next jobs.
* Photos: Photos should be kept off resumes, as personal pho-tos have nothing to do with a person’s qualifi cations. Even job seekers applying for photography positions won’t want to put photos on their resumes. Such materials should be included in a portfolio but never on a resume.
* Hobbies and/or personal interests: It can be tempting for ap-plicants with limited work histories to list their hobbies and in-terests, but in many cases such information is irrelevant and can frustrate hiring managers who want to fi nd relevant qualifi ca-tions on a resume as quickly as possible. If a resume is bogged down with information about an applicant’s hobbies and inter-ests, then a hiring manager is likely to grow impatient and move on to the next applicant. Unless a hobby is especially relevant to a position, it should not be included on a resume.
* Irrelevant past experience: Prior experience that is irrelevant to the position you’re applying for should be kept off your resume. For example, a high school job as a grocery clerk likely has little relevance when applying for an entry level fi nance position. It’s important to remember when applying for entry level positions that few entry level candidates will have extensive employment histories, so don’t feel bad if your resume is less than meaty.
* Salary expectations: Some job postings will ask that you list sal-ary requirements. This can be a delicate topic, as no one wants to exclude themselves by asking for too much money or appear desperate by asking for too little. A good approach when asked for salary requirements is simply to write, “Salary negotiable” somewhere on your resume. Never include salary requirements unless a job listing specifi cally requests such information.
* Personal information: Personal information, including marital status, sexual orientation, whether or not you have children and your religious beliefs should always be kept off a resume. Such information is irrelevant, and it’s illegal for companies to con-sider such information during the hiring process.
* Inappropriate email address: Many people have a playful email address that refl ects a nickname friends and family can identify with. Such addresses are fi ne when communicating with fam-ily and friends, but use a more professional email address when applying for jobs. The address can include your name, such as [email protected] or simply your initials followed by the do-main name of your email server. Fair or unfair, an unprofessional email address on a resume may give prospective employers the impression that applicants are immature.
